  • @frstwonder "Since I have a 4 year degree in Comparative Mythology which is the study metaphors..."

Are you serious? They give out 4 year degrees in that? What kind of job can you find in that field?

Hi there everybody. Some people over analyze everything they digest

and forget to taste what is in their mouth!!!!!!!!!! Chew - close your eyes - enjoy!

Then you might find the satisfaction you are looking for?

  • @NYCKYK729...Well Nycky one night I watching public television and they Had Joseph Campbell on,. He was a professor emeritus at Sarah Lawrence College which at that time was the top female college in the country. Comparative Mythology is study of different cultures use of mythology as it pertains to everyday life and how each culture is telling the same story but with different symbols. Religion, love, politics etc...all have their own mythology..I have taught history now I'm a computer spec.

  • @frstwonder

Are you for real?...what kind of job can you get with a degree in comparative Mythology..and what school offers a degree like that?

  • Nevertheless, I'm glad you honored Jean Carne; one of the best of the highly underrated talents in the world, through this video! Thanks for posting this spring 1986 memory!

  • Kanye - Let it go to his head

  • Does anyone know the horn instrument that is at 1:43-1:59

  • @WhereIsRealHipHop sounds like trombones

  • @WarriorDM4u Thank you very much

  • @WhereIsRealHipHop trombones with a toilet plunger

  • @3960rich Thanks

  • i dont think the analysis of the song is correct. i wish there was some one who wouldnt get torn down because they are talented, live their own life and succeed at what they do. you sound like what the kids call a "hater" to me. i played behind her whenever you came to the carter baron in washington, d.c. the song is about a woman asking her lover to be true and not let the fact that she loves him/her DONT LET IT GO TO YOUR HEAD. I think people should be able to feel proud about themselves.

  • @poppimack This is not an attack on successful people, it is just a way of reminding them not to abuse their fame. Not all people can handle fame or success some people let it go to their heads, and so I am saying you are to stay grounded and humble, because those whose heads fame has gone to, mostly fall overboard. The lyrics can use both ways for Love or for fame. Love isn't the only thing that can go to your head, fame, money, positon. Someone said below that Jean also endorsed my analysis.

  • i like how you added the pics of the celebrities.

  • *****Sometimes a person knows they have a man or woman wrapped around their little finger emotionally to a point where they feel that person isnt going anywhere even if you dont exactly treat them very well. Some people get the big head and arrogantly stroke their own egos when someone is madly in love with them. To feel like somebody cant live without you, now thats super ego.Thats what the jest of this song is.....not celebrity arrogance because of fame and money (just listen to the song)*****

  • @summersbr1 The beauty about a song with well crafted lyrics, is that it leaves room for interpretation. On the face of it, your interpretation is CORRECT, but the message presented here is ALSO equally fitting. Isn't it a fact that famous artists, media personnel, politicians etc also tend to let their fame or prestige go to their heads and at times forget that it was others who put them where they are? I recently heard an interview with Jean and she VALIDATED the interpretation given here.

  • @Kumtekmeon, i respect your opinion and i thank you for it. Yet the message of this particular song is "specifically" clear. Thats all i was addressing. i just noticed the lack of comments that had to do with this songs message and i just assumed it was being missed.. Now if a person wants to take the title of the song and relay it to celebrity fame and ego, thats cool too although this song seems to be more about love in the hands of the wrong person...lol peace and a long life

  • @summersbr1 Thank you. As I noted before, your interpretation is CORRECT, but this interpretation is equally correct and much so in my opinion, being that the singer (Jean Carne) has also expressed the meaning of the song to be in its general understanding about being humble and flat-footed in the face of fame and success. Before this video, I also limited the interpretation to be about a man and his partner's intimate relationship, but I am now open to both interpretations, equally.

  • @Kumtekmeon, point well taken and i appreciate the dialogue. Be blessed

  • Even when you're on the low end in life..Don't let it go to your head No!! Great song and video.

  • Does anyone know that woodwind instrument at 1:42-1:59

  • @WhereIsRealHipHop Trumpets used with Mutes on the end, to create the wah effect.

  • Comment removed

  • @WhereIsRealHipHop i think they are trumpets

  • DIS IZ 4 ANYBODY DATS GETS 2 BIGG 4 DEY BRITCHES.....

  • looooooooooooove the vid man. really cool.

  • I love this song although a different video would have worked better. The song has nothing to do with what you are trying to imply with the video through celebrities. I get the drift but something more compatible with the song would have been great.

  • YES, THIS WAS THE JAM, BACK IN THE DAY!! HOWEVER I STILL

LOVE IT!! HORNS, DRUM BEAT AND STRINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love my old school music. Those were the good old days. The music was cool & chilling, just good. The artists had great stage appeal & presence. There are "SOME" very good artists' today but, they are far & few ones who have the real, pure talent & they're usually overlooked for the light skinned, big butt or the pretty ones who lack raw talent.

  • why do u love them they dont do a damn thing for u they are puppets for the true people who control them u people are on tv u need to wake up and know what time it really is and love your creator these people dont care about their own family !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Yes you made a good video ... but ...

  • stone cold old school classic. love the irony of the video.

  • Great song!!!!

  • :) TIMELESS :) SMILES :) THANK YOU :)

  • All true, true, true. But if the shoe was on your feet U'll want your fans 2 love U 2.

    Its all good

  • another song these stars need to listen to is "superstar" by the temptations....

  • nice slide show.............more love

  • ay, it's YOU who put them on the pedestal,

follow their every move on Twitter up to their bowel movements,

    get star struck,

scream and sweat at their presence,

YOU make them who they are,

THEY just take what you've given them, no more no less.

having your face all over TV and/or billboards doesn't make one special

so ease up people, THEY are just like US, flash and blood, no better, sometimes worse

'Turn ye not unto idols, nor make to yourselves molten gods: I [am] the LORD your God'

  • @TheSinghFIRE: Yeah, that'll be cool. One thing that I do know, if nothin else is Hip Hop! I'm still doin my thing on the emceeing side too. Maybe I can pass your info along to one of my people if you got that heat. Not sayin I got that "hookup" but I've been around and know a few people.

  • I'm soooooo GLAD you added Mr. Kanye West! He grew up and went to school with my younger brother and it was actually ME who first passed his demo tape to Producer No ID back when Kanye was still in High school... he turned his back on the WHOLE neighborhood. Sad.

  • @Docmananoff and how did you find mr. No ID?

  • @TheSinghFIRE I have been an emcee before Kanye ever touched a mic. I had a studio session with No ID's partner Dug Infinite back in 1993 and I let them both hear the tape of a beat that Kanye made (my brother let me hear the tape because they were preparing for their school's talent show.) No ID liked the track but had already met Kanye and wanted to avoid him because he said Kanye was a pest. Apparently, the 'we need to support each other' speech convinced him to mentor Kanye.

  • @Docmananoff thats crazy son, i make beats too i wish i had that support from someone like NoID LOL (never would happen though) what were his beats like bro, i'd love to compare Jay Dee and Kanye's beat tapes together.

  • @TheSinghFIRE yeah, it's bugged out. His early stuff when he was a kid making tracks in his parent's basement was alot like most the jazz inspired stuff in the early 90s. He always kinda looked up to No ID I guess cause you could hear the influence when compared to Common's first album.

  • @Docmananoff dude thats pretty crazy, the NoID beats on Can i borrow a dolla were dope. i heard Kanye was crazy about beats from Main Source and Souls Of Mischief. my man, could i send you something which i did last year, you seem to know your hiphop and i would like your opinion. i got an emcee on it, its not like mainstream music.

  • Jasmine Sullivan has done a remake-scared to listen to it. I like her but remakes are not always on point. I love this song, the lyrics and the emphasis Carne uses when singing it-knowing when to scat it, throw in a few octaves of reminder-the perfect person recorded this song. & imitation is the sincerest form of flattery

  • If any celebs are watching this video right now, I sincerely hope you pay attention to the lyrics, and for the right reasons...Don't go run and call your producer and see if you can cut a remake of this classic song!

Thanks for posting this! Luv this

  • thanx so much for posting this!!

  • Classic:).

  • Great Ballroom song. We get down to this in Detroit.

  • my brother in law alex was smashed out of his head and went into the dressing room with her just to get her autograph and she was very polite to him in south port up the basildon massive

  • my brother in law alex was smashed out of his head and went into the dressing room with her just to get her autograph and she was very polite to him in south port up the laindon massive

  • LOVE THE BARBARA STRIESAND PICTURE!

  • es la original la mejor jean carne

  • i would have started this video with........"yes, your beautiful.....yes, your rich..and yes your famous....but your shit still stinks....get over yourselfs!!!"

  • a smooth very mellow tune with a message!

  • Why can't this be on our billboards today instad of this other crap out now? Sure, not all of it is bad but damn does anyone ever wonder what life would be like if disco like this was still on the market?

  • classic!!!!!

  • very underrated vocalist! she is awesome

  • I TOTALLY FORGOT ABOUT THIS AND I DID'NT KNOW JEAN SUNG THIS THANKS FOR POSTING IRIEAR

    BOOMCC1

  • Thanks to Ms. Jean Carne a Real singer with richness and depth, cant manufacture that in a studio!

  • Always Loved This...

  • I love the 'tick' or coo she makes in her voice when she sings the word 'now' in 1:06 -1:07 . You don't hear that anymore but it was cute when women used to do that w/their voices.

  • I luv this song, esp. the way they break it down at 3:40. Yet, I felt u should've made a different video for this song. It doesn't fit the song. Plus this is Jean's song and you didn't have any photos of her. You have photos of stars we see enough of already.

  • i luv this song !!

  • DON'T LET IT GO YOUR HEAD NOW

  • I love this song too much. I dedicate it to those that I like and tell them so but yet all they do is waste my time with their egotistical crap! Yes you know how I feel so can you now do some real talking or I'm gonna do some real walking. Straight no nonsense! Move on to the next...

  • This is one of my favorites by Jeane Carne, I have this as a ringtone.

  • Jean carne at her peak!

  • this is very thoughtful.

  • this baby is sick I can't get this song outta my spine

  • I'm just glad u Did this one I coudent find it let a lone hear it anywhere Thanx iriear

  • @wanpay, you are welcome.

  • Although the video shows celebrities, its not really about fame or fortune. Its not about staying grounded inspite of the fact that they have money and possessions (although it is a nice touch)

  • This song makes me sad. Just so melancholy and sweet.

  • yeah!!! this guys should be talkfull to me cause their famous... lol

sorry i don't really relate but it's a great song tough...

  • @ganiniii, you say you dont relate to this song but i bet you. You dont want to fall in love with anyone that gets the "big head" and arrogantly feel like they have you locked up emotionally. They can talk or treat you any kind of way yet feel like you are soo into them that you wont leave or go anywhere. Its called "taking your love for granted". Dont let your ego get too inflated just because I'm in love with you. Now, can you relate????......lol

  • SHE WAS MY FAVORITE SINGERS IN 70,s she had the baddest songs out where is she at now that was my girl bad bad bad i thought no one bad as she peace

  • Massive Lacy Lady Tune back in the late 70's i can still hear the crowed singing in my head, great times :-)

  • GREAT post !!.....thanx..:D

  • Liquid perfection. Still the best female vocalist, along with Lisa Stansfield and Aretha, to me.

  • love this great idea, you are very inspiring,

thank u for showing the comparisons it share hope for everyone, STILL I RISE

  • Thanks a million. I am humbled by your comment.

  • Even after all this time...there something about this choon that does it for me.

  • Brilliant!

  • All the beautiful pics of Whitney Houston you choose that one? Whitney is a natural beauty and unlike miss Janet Jackson and halle Berry did not need Plastic Surgery to make themselves more attractive.BTW love the song selection

  • Sorry if I offended you, but I included three photos of Whitney one when she was at her low and the other two when she was in her glory. I did the same thing with R Kelly to show a comparison. Maybe you missed the other two.

  • I must have I apologize then

  • @Bahia82 She was beautiful BEFORE the crack addiction. Lol.

  • I LOVE THESE WAVES OF SOUND!!!!!!!

  • READ MY COMMENT.

  • Absolutely fabulous...a beautiful urban soul classic. I love the unique bass cords. Reminds me of a pretty afternoon in the city.

  • one of my favorites...!!!!!!!!!!!

  • McFadden and Whitehead doing backs on this with Jean.

  • Love this old original cut from the 70's

my freshman year, I just love the side show with all the celebs.

  • This truely a classic summer tune.

  • This is "TRULY" a classic cut! I remember cleaning the house while my mother was playing this song ( Over and Over ) !!! Yes Jean is a treat for anyone who wants to know what vocals were like a "short" time ago. : )

  • This song helps me stay 10 toes down,,,ya feel me.

  • Yes...this is my song...Jean is one of those voices of soul that we miss hearing on the radio...and 90% of the people in this video know nothing about soul music and it's impact on those like me who can appreciate it's Lyrical composition and interpretation. We need the Jeans, Aretha's, Gladys, Michaels, Luthers, Phyllis', Anita's back...

  • Love me some Jean Carne!!!

  • brand nubian cop'd this one for their version. tooo nice

  • theeee jam.

  • So love it, nice mix of celebs.

  • I always did like this song. Groove is so laid back like a spring day with just the right amount of breeze.

  • This is my song....Very creative video!

  • this video is awesome, ilove it

  • for the message that you wanted to send brand nubians version of this song fits the message better. Their version is about new artist on the come up who shouldent let their sucess with singles n shit go to their head. Look up "dont let it go to your head" by brand nubian

  • Someone PULEEZE tell that foolish embarrassment, kanye to take heed to the title of this song (LOL)....

I have loved this song since it first came out while i was still in highschool....by the inimitable Jean Carne...

    UNSUNG !

  • I'm a big fan of Jazz loving Jean Carne,Phyllis Hyman,Michael Henderson,

    Norman Connors,and all

  • luv it

  • It's a little late for some of these "stars."

Jean Carne, an endless classic!! Great video. Thanks!!!

  • I agree, practically this applies to all the celebs featured! **RIP MJJ

  • Beautiful song and loved the video

  • This was the Jam back in the day.

  • :) ..............

  • isn't this song on gta san andreas?

  • no and yes. this isn't the exact version thats on gta:sa. you're thinking about the reggae one by black harmony

  • Hey u are so awesome!!! I love the slideshow n captions...... You Rock!!!!!

  • I'm flattered that you think I 'ROCK'. You've made my day.

  • I first heard the song in 1992 on a BBC radio station in the northern part of UK.. (as well as the Brand New Heavies version)

it really was the making of the musician in me... while I much much prefer her work with Doug Carn (which is waaaaaaaaay under appreciated by organ players) I am still loving this song...

  • Thanks for sharing the song. I have to be honest, I have never heard of her, but she has a beautiful voice and I love the song. I also love the creativity that you did with the song, showing of different stars and what could happen if they let it go to there head. You are truly talented, to put this together, and for such, again I truly thank you. I am going to save this song, and look up the history on this singer. Thanks.

  • I am humbled. Thanks sincerely.

...Jean Carne is a masterpiece, you will not be disappointed.

  • You are very welcome :)smile!

  • My name is christopher Ross i am singer in tampa i love jean carnes music i wish i could meet and sing with her it would be wonderful experience.

  • Yo where's my rappers Jim Jones, 50, Jeezy, Busta Rhymes, Foxy Brown, Remy Ma, Three Six Mafia, Slim Thug, Bun B, Wu Tang, Shawna, Rah Digga & Lady Luck? You tryna say that they ain't successful enough to get big headed?

  • So true 99.9% of ALL celebrities need to hear this.

  • If only they could sing like this!!!!! No Chance, maybe Mariah - maybe!

  • Hell no. Mariah does not compare!!!

  • mariah would do her cliche scream and f*ck the song up. people give her a too much credit.

  • iriear; The video was awesome! I feel where you were going with this. The message is quite clear whether it towards the stars directly or anyone in here with Stardom aspirations, "Don't let it go to your head' Don't let your success in whatever you do, turn you UGLY.

  • Much respect for that comment.

  • Comment removed

  • My friend you have it all wrong. This diva is Jean Carne. Phyllis Hyman was the one who unfortunately took her own life. I am also upset that you gave my video 1* when it is done wih good intention.

  • Sorry for confusing the women ... but I am entitled to my opinion of the video. I see what you're trying to say, but what's the point? Do you really think any of them will ever see this? Ever heed your warning? I see it as just an opportunity to display celebrity photos. My 2 cents ... but the song is still off the hook. Peace.

  • I respect your rights and opinons, however, from my wordings at the end of the vid 'Stars are in sight, let us demand them...' that clearly says my aim is at ordinary viewers not to accept the 'negative' behavior from some of these stars or to think they are above constructive criticism because they are rich and famous. And whosoever lucky to become a star to know it's okay to stay grounded. Peace out to you too.

  • I'am on that TRUE WORDS Very good channel I'll send you a note of importance

PEACE TO YOU AND YOUR FRIENDS

  • not heard this for years, thanks for posting this classic tune.......

  • brand nubian!

  • i love this track its dope

  • Kelly Rowland's a star? no.

  • it's up to opinion. i don't know if she's a star or not but i'm pretty sure she has more money than you and people know how she looks...more so than you. does that make her a star?

  • well I had the awsome pleasure of witnessing Ms Carne's greatness and just like Luther, you couldn't tell the difference between the record and live.....except I was sharing air with her....she is one of the greatests that doesn't get her props like some of the other "diva" women out there. Love ya Jean, keep on blowing girl.....

  • My favorite Jean Carne song. My mom used to play her growing up.

  • love this tune to death wicked track classic soul thank you Jean Love you xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • when what year did this song come ?

  • It was released in 1978.

  • thank you funny thats my birth year

  • What a mean and nasty thing to say about someone who is not able to defend themselves. Ok, so you don't like her for being an older woman(how ageist).

She has one of the best voices in the business, and she could definetely hold her own with some of these so-called modern divas of soul.

Why people seem to want to post venomous comments is beyond me. Jean's music has given so much pleasure to many a people whose live's might be in turmoil. Thanks for posting

  • THESE KIDS ARE LOST.

  • great diva

  • I remember this from waaay back. I don't like the slides you have up though. We need to see Jean Carne.

  • Jean is the queen!! One of the best vocalists ever!!

  • She is a Great Singer with a Awesome voice. She earned her place in music. I saw her show yesterday This is a very Beautiful Lady with a knockout figure for her age and the way she dances around that stage had everyone up outta their seats. Her voice is so Powerful. I love her music

  • She is older you fucking dumb ass.

  • you are evil not every one can afford botox Lipo or a face lift even if they could it might not help, look at Joan Rivers.

  • say man!!! Jean is a beautiful woman and a beautiful talent.. and if you don't think so you need to go get yourself checked out..there's a hole in there somewhere...

  • Now who can sing like PHYLIS. GOOD CUT!
