  • I liked it, i think the fast past, get hals past out of the way and leap into the action was much better than the live action movie, now lets see what happens when Carol turns into star sapphire and her and hal have a lovers quarell, i hope they do it like batman returns. they don't know who the other is till something is said and each as that "oh s*&t" look on thier faces. now that would be cool.

  • This movie is a 100 times better than the live action movie. Nuff said.

  • When you said the artwork could be strange with Sinestro and the Yellow power battery, I also found another art problem. Sinestro's ring had the green lantern symbol. It should have the parralax symbol. Subscribe to my channel if you want

  • This is far better than the live action movie will be.

just seeing the trailer for that thing made me a little embarrassed to be a lantern fan.

  • 8 out of 10 pretty much nails it.

Y'know what bugged me in this movie... no individual power battery for each ring.

I guess they felt it over complicated things or whatever, but for me it's an iconic part of the GL mythos. "power level 86.3%" etc.

All in all still pretty decent and the punch up between hal and sinestro above the planet was very nicely done, with the green and yellow energy flaring with each punch.

  • For the most part, I agree. I liked how they did Sinestro. He not evil. He just wants order. Fear brings that order, and he wields it masterfully.

  • I like the version of Sinestro in this film. He is a character like Magneto. He honestly doesn't consider himself to be "evil" so why would he be portrayed like he is? He sees the Guardians as the true enimies and he is going to be the one to set every right nomatter what he has to do to achieve that.. That makes his character alot more interesting rather then him being potrayed as the sterotypical "evil" bad guy cuz thats just fucking lame.

  • @ryano2099 you're absolutely right, in the books lately sinestro is practically a good guy.

  • Don't tell much about the story? You basically told every major twist in it which is ok for me because I already watched it. That aside I agree with your review.

  • Yo nice review. Have you thought about reviews to the comics? Blackest Night perhaps?

  • Look - i appreciate you reviewing it, but it is a poor review if you tell the viewer what happens in the film - "you can pretty much guess what happens..." and then you say. I had to stop watching. Where's your spoiler alert?

  • @Pipehitting SPOILER ALERTS! JESUS DIES, KING KONG GETS SHOT, GREEN LANTERN WINS, THERE'S NO SANTA CLAUS, BATMAN BEATS UP THE JOKER AND YOUR MOM'S A WHORE.

Hope you didn't accidentally read that, it might spoil important shit for you.

  • @Pipehitting I believe the best reviews have to include spoilers, then how else can you truly analyze and discuss a film, if you are watching this review, it is safe to assume you have seen the film

  • 5:54 = OMG it's a Dranei From World of Warcraft!

  • @Malestorm87 No, it's fucking not. Here's a tip: Nobody gives a fuck about WoW anymore, including people who used to play it. And nobody who mattered gave a fuck about WoW back when it was relevant too. Get out.

  • @LHCLEGION wtf man, overreaction much!?!?!? i haven't played WoW in ages i just pointed out something that reminded me of it there was no invitation WHAT SO EVER to deserve a fucking backlash you GTFO

  • @Malestorm87 Anyone who plays WoW at all, and makes mention or reference to it when discussing something completely fucking unrelated, is deserving of mockery. Get out.

  • I know they cut it down for time and all, but it would have made a lot of sense to give Hal the power of Ion in his big fight with Sinestro, and I even think that is implied.

And I guess we can assume Parallax was in the Yellow battery.

God, I hope DC does an animated version of the Sinestro Corps War and Blackest Night.

  • @Zeromark I fucking agree. The wars kicked ass, and Blackest Night Is AWESOME! Sinestro becomes the Greatest Lantern!! FACK!

  • That was a good review.

Why would you think though that the movie was out of continuity with the comics? (I, like you said, am trying to get into the comics from the movie)

Do you have an "must read" Green Lantern stories that cover a lot of his history?

  • @thgl2814 I actually did a video on exactly that, do a search on my page for green lantern you should find it.

  • @NecroVMX

awesome. I'll have to check that out!

  • @tanglupo Don't fucking spam me, asshole.

  • The Boodika thing just flummoxed me and kinda pissed me off. It's like they needed a turncoat in the Corps and picked her name out of a hat.

It would be like making a Superman movie and having someone like Cat Grant turning out to be in league with Lex Luthor and shooting Clark with a kryptonite bullet.

The main problem I have with these animated things is that they are so short.

  • Good review. I have just recently become somewhat obsessed with the whole concept of "Green Lantern" and once the "First Flight" movie came out, I was dying to get it, along with a stack of comic back issues!! I thought the movie was very good and I agree with your review. Nice job :-)

  • if you're interested in the books, i did a video which shows a lot of the trades and recommends which ones are mandatory

  • The underuse of Arisia: I had the same problem in GI Joe with Cover Girl.

  • 05:18

They could've got out of the f*cking way in time, but noooo, they were staring at it.

  • 03:49

I kind of thought something might develop between Hal and Boodikka on that scene. Too bad she has to turn "SUDDENLY EVIL" and ended up being dead.

I would have tried saving her if I was Hal =(

  • Considering how sinister they depict the alpha lanterns now, maybe there's something prescient about this fim

  • I think your 2nd question about Boodikka answered the 1st: my guess is they made her less threatening BECAUSE she was going to go bad, so her betrayal would come out of left field for those who don't know the comics as it did for those who do.

Thing I thought was funny in the film was how Hal and Sinestro ended up in a fistfight again. SCW, Justice, a few other times...they have the most powerful weapon in the DCU and they always end up going Wildcat on each other. Not complaining, though.

  • Since I'm not an expert on DC heroes, I don't think all the changes you mentioned will bother me. Do plan to rent this and that Wonder Woman movie.

Anyway, with Green Lantern and Spider-Man 4 in 2011, there'll be another nerdgasmy summer in two years....

  • While the New Frontier movie didn't focus on Hal quite as much as the comic did, I still kinda think that New Frontier was a better Green Lantern movie then this one was.

Not saying First Flight was bad, just that New Frontier was that awesome.

  • Good review :) I want to watch this movie now :)

  • Well this review got me to watch the movie. Good review Necro.

  • Ha...strange enough, I was about to tell you about this movie days ago. I knew you liked comics, but I didn't think you would enjoy cartoons for some reason.

  • I love cartoons :P

  • Hmm it'll be interesting to see how Ryan Reynolds will be as the Green Lantern. I'm skeptical...but of course I was skeptical of Tom Cruise being Lestat back in Interview with the Vampire and he was amazing.
