"saving lives" by helping killing brown peoples, a.k.a. "human beings", in a foreign country ... one hell of a paradox, isn't it !?
If they REALLY want to save lives, why dont they work on long range food-droping UAV (so you dont have to ask authorisations, in case of humanitarian crisis) or fire-fighting UAV (pilots are KILLED each years in this kind of missions), or marine Search&Rescue, or roadway speed limit controls, etc.
BTW, why can't US engineers (students, researchers) working for the military simply admit they're OK with the idea of slaughtering people that dont want a pizza-hut in their backyard and don't accept Jesus as their Personal Savior ? (^_^)

are they actual launch/takeoff and forget UAVs (software flys the aircraft) or just radio controlled aircraft? (I saw people with radio transmitters)

take off and landings are controlled by humans but the actual flight and target detection is by software
