I have got a very good hint for you to keeping the nice old Engine in good shape with todays ultra dry eco fuels: Use 1:100 API TC two stroke oil / fuel mix as regular driving fuel, that keeps the old fuel-system gaskets, rubber parts, alloy parts etc... and cast iron metal surfaces of those vintage engines in excellent shape...and it also lubricates the valves and upper piston regions. Most Porsche vintage owners in Germany do so :) Also keeps carbs and tank clean and rustfree

@1Majd1 true but think! it being so quiet you can put real loud speakers and get one of those rev sound things and it makes your car sound like any car you want! sadley styling is just coming back in when gas is moving out i dont think id buy a car that looks like a ground pounder with out the sound
A sound like this combined with the menacing look of the charger just screams evil. I'd be afraid to even race with that if it pulled up beside me at a stoplight, the rumble, sound & look of the charger is so intimidating and blood chilling.
Nice charger.. the 318 is good if you want to save money and engine room. can produce some good horsepower. The 440 takes up alot of room and alot more weight. But if you have the money the 440 can produce some massive horsepower. I'll stick with the 440.
what is with all of this non-sense? a V6 camry will not compete with my 440 Plymouth ...i've run against LT1 F-Bodys and even the new mustangs (i have an '05)...so your logic would be that a camry would beat the "modern muscle" as well.
personally, i think all this bickering on other people's videos is ridiculous, but it's annoying when people think a civic, camry, mitsu or hyundai would take a 440 that's not beat to hell or of the smogger variety
Zando:I dont think any of the auto makers make anything above a 6 cylinder engine anymore, well unless you count stangs, vettes. Much of the remake Chargers, and Stangs. are top dollar for their Horse Power.
my 83 Monte is faster than say 70% of the cars on the road today.
Imagine the rebellious feeling of being outlaw, rebel against the community, the law, the sound comes, rumbles and vibrations feels in your whole body, the engine waits to attack,it vibrates, it roars, more sound comes, in a second you stomp the throttle, you gets thrown back into the seat, archiving mile after mile while smoke is behind the beast,it's almost like a flood flowing in your whole body, the smell of smoke, of power, of..rebelion, yeah, that's what the life should be, born to be wild.
Awesome car. You will never see a real charger made again. They are to square. Government says you have to get a certain MPG for the new cars. That is why they are all tin cans. The new fast cars are nice but you get in a mustang or corvette and they feel the same. Get in a old school muscle car and you feel it. The only reason new cars are faster is because they no longer have a 3 speed tranny. Drop a 5 or 6 speed in this charger and see who gets left behind. Just my 02
Well stock-stock the newer pony cars have it. But old Detroit Iron, they got massive power potential. What else can make 100-200+ hp more with just a couple of bolt-on's?
well with a modern tranny it wouldn't be "old school" would it? Modern cars may appear bland but don't kid yourself that they aren't quick. A STOCK 440 B body would have a match keeping up with a new camry V6 (REALLY) in a straight line. (It never made annything like 390 hp/480lb/ft torque). On the road, the modern car would school the old one. Not to piss on the classics, they have character-but not a lot else.
1st, I didn't say anything about a tranny. Also, you didn't respond to my post about price. Oh, and did you seriously bring up the V6 Camry? Seriously? That tuns a full second slower than most muscle crs. Not schooling of the muscle would be had. Besides, other special editions would school it. What special edition Camry could compete?
It's amazing to me that cars like this once ruled the streets and just a few years later we resorted to the compact cars that ruined the American muscle car era. At least muscle cars have made a comback in the past few years, but nothing will ever compare to these monsters...
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
"compact cars ruined the muscle car era"?? Grow up, the vast majority of "muscle cars" were more bark than bite-thirsty, cumbersome and not all that quick. People look back at 60's cars through rose tinted glasses, seeing only the top end survivors and restos loaded up with MODERN goodies and think that this was commonplace. Yes, I'd love a 4 speed hemi charger as much as anyone, but that's nostalgia. Cheer up, modern cars are far QUICKER and responsive than the wallowing relics of yesteryear.
Correction. Modern Cars aren't FAR quicker than classics. Maybe some. It took them what? 40 years to finally make cars that competed with vintage muscle cars? A vintage Challenger R/T can beat a modern Challenger R/T. I agree they were thirsty, but how are they not quick? Need I remind you that the fastest Camaro ever, was made in 1969? Apart from that, nothing modern has ever beat the 1968 Barracuda S/S 1/4 mile times. Despite their size, Superbirds could reach high top speeds, so I'd disagree
Are you referring to the COPO 427s? Because they were pretty rare options with very steep prices that put them well beyond the reach of the average Joe. Isn't that the whole "muscle car" concept was about-cheap horsepower for the ordinary man? The L88 engine was peaky, expensive, lacked low end grunt, needed frequent overhauls, race gas, soggy throttle response....etc. To get the stellar 1/4 mile times, manufacturers supplied "ringer" specials with slicks and (nemerically) high rear ends.
Not the COPO's, but those would fit to. I'm not tryng to say that muscle cars are the greatest cars ever, They weren't made to be. However, its not like their modern counterparts blow them out of the water, like you implied. You brought up price, but I'm not sure what you meant by it. It's cheaper to buy a classic muscle car that'll go faster, then to buy a newer one. Compare Challengers. New one is heavier, and not as powerful. It does have advanced technology however, so it'd be a drivers race
Ok. Since we all agree that the cars of the 60s have a huge appeal, and the domestic car manufacturers are struggling, if those old cars are so good, why don't they simply put them back into production and clean up at the showrooms??
You're right, few did run in the 12's. The only model I know of that wasn't special edition, would be the Roadrunner. Most ran 13s. Which still competes with many cars today. Not supercars, but many cars. I'm not talking about collectable muscle cars btw, I'm saying that performance-to-price ratio, nothing can beat classic muscle cars. You see, I respect a hot rod, old or new, and while the old ones are alot cooler, we are just talking performance here, and for their time, they're excellent
-6 rating. Anyone would think that I was proposing to scrap every classic car. A fair comparison would be this; Taking a budget of $30,000, and, ADJUSTING FOR INFLATION, could you get an equivalent car in 1969, that could match today's offerings? Not remotely. Of course you could continue to compare a restored charger to a second hand civic to reasure yourself that the golden age of motoring has gone forever. But remember, back in '69 there were far more slant six valiants than hemis...
Indeed there were more 6 cyls...kinda like today. I'm not sure what your drive, but I do own a muscle car, and I have $17,000 invested in it. Nothing stock can beat it either(that isn't way out of its price range.) Modern muscle? I have their number. I'm not saying I don't agree with you about how today's cars, "still got it." They do, but trust me. Classic muscle is nothing to mess with. For the money...simply nothing else compares. I didn't give you thumbs down btw, I respect opinions lol.
What I mean is, $30k today, equates to about $4000 in 1969 money. That would pay for an L88 motor but not a car to put it in! These is no way that a highly collectable muscle car would be offered for sale for less than the cost of a second hand modern car. In spite of what you may read, very few cars of the 60s could run 13s let alone 12s. The gross HP ratings were highly exagerrated (not underrated as is commonly claimed) - the new charger develops more power than the original.
Can you provide any evidence that they were overrated? It's common knowledge that they underrated them for insurance reasons. The Hemi? 500 hp, as rated by the NHRA, who would have no gains by being dishonest. Most were rated at about 50 hp lower than they really were. The new Charger doesn't put out more horsepower, like I said its technology. It's also alot heavier. PLUS, the Charger doesn't run the 1/4 any faster anyway, so I'm not sure where you are getting your information.
Yes, up until '71, the US manufacturers measured their engines in gross horsepower ie without power steering, fan belt, water pump a/c, fed with unrealistically cold air exhausting through straight through pipes etc. etc.. So even the rated flywheel horsepower was fabricated. Add in a horrendously parastic drivetrain and the rear wheel horsepower is a LONG way from the official ratings. Modern cars may offer seemingly modest power-but they deliver what they say they will; the old ones did not.
Look, are there any credible source to back up your statement? Plenty of sources have tested hemi's and NOONE has ever said, they were overrated. Except you. I ran a damn 318 that almost put out as much as you claim the Hemi does. The Hemi put out alot more than 370, no matter what they measured them with. If it did, it wouldn't be as fast as it is. How do the old ones not deliver on what they say? They beat their counterparts for 40 years, and up until now there wasn't much competition
Your 318 was good for <150 hp -from the factory, about as good as a modern 2. litre turbo diesel, with far less torque. If you want to live in the fantasy land regarding 60's car then do so. The overrating is well known-but a lot of people refuse to believe it. Look, do you think automotive engineers achieved nothing in 30+ years, or the Japanese/Europeans persevered with more complicated high revving engines when they could have just used a good ol' 60's V8??
You fail to you realize my point. Well, before I get there. Let me start by saying my old 318 was 225, which I admit is 5 less then they said...but simply put, you were wrong on that statement. I wasn't even alive in the 60's or 70's, so I have no nostalgia from that time to "deny" facts. All I have is experience. I work on my car myself, and drive it to. No fantasy here, it's simply faster than alot(not all) modern cars. Don't bash things because you can't have them.
NHRA used a formula to try to rate race versions of street engines based on the manufacturers' gross ratings. Since the gross ratings were meaningless, it doesn't mean anything. An "as delivered" hemi MIGHT have delivered ~370hp NET flywheel hp on good day-not 425-500. Interestingly cadillac rated the '70 500 CID V8 at 400 hp @4400 RPM. The cadillac valvetrain was junk and tended to float @ ~4200 RPM
Oh, and for the last time...I never said modern cars weren't quick. I like them to. Read my whole posts. Just don't fool yourself into thinking that even if muscle cars are old, they aren't fast either. I also want you to notice how the modern versions aren't any faster than the originals. All I know is that if I can beat modern cars with mine, for half the price, it proves the continuing worth of muscle cars. Beating Civics doesn't "make me feel good", but beating modern muscle sure does
What are you running? $17,000 isn't going to buy you a 60's muscle car is it? It will buy you a very good c5 5.7 corvette, which, in "as delivered to customer" form will beat most, if not all FACTORY original 60's muscle cars. Remember, virtually all the "old muscle" being raced today has a whole host of modern carbs, intakes, heads, pistons, oils...etc etc. tucked under the hood which people forget are not period correct and make a big difference.

I'll stick with the 440.
ben01duke 2 years ago
what is with all of this non-sense? a V6 camry will not compete with my 440 Plymouth ...i've run against LT1 F-Bodys and even the new mustangs (i have an '05)...so your logic would be that a camry would beat the "modern muscle" as well.
personally, i think all this bickering on other people's videos is ridiculous, but it's annoying when people think a civic, camry, mitsu or hyundai would take a 440 that's not beat to hell or of the smogger variety

Eddiemotor 2 years ago 2
Awesome car. You will never see a real charger made again. They are to square. Government says you have to get a certain MPG for the new cars. That is why they are all tin cans. The new fast cars are nice but you get in a mustang or corvette and they feel the same. Get in a old school muscle car and you feel it. The only reason new cars are faster is because they no longer have a 3 speed tranny. Drop a 5 or 6 speed in this charger and see who gets left behind. Just my 02
slowmotion4x4 2 years ago 3
Well stock-stock the newer pony cars have it. But old Detroit Iron, they got massive power potential. What else can make 100-200+ hp more with just a couple of bolt-on's?
pwkid 2 years ago 3
well with a modern tranny it wouldn't be "old school" would it? Modern cars may appear bland but don't kid yourself that they aren't quick. A STOCK 440 B body would have a match keeping up with a new camry V6 (REALLY) in a straight line. (It never made annything like 390 hp/480lb/ft torque). On the road, the modern car would school the old one. Not to piss on the classics, they have character-but not a lot else.
nem427 2 years ago
1st, I didn't say anything about a tranny. Also, you didn't respond to my post about price. Oh, and did you seriously bring up the V6 Camry? Seriously? That tuns a full second slower than most muscle crs. Not schooling of the muscle would be had. Besides, other special editions would school it. What special edition Camry could compete?
Zando24 2 years ago
It's amazing to me that cars like this once ruled the streets and just a few years later we resorted to the compact cars that ruined the American muscle car era. At least muscle cars have made a comback in the past few years, but nothing will ever compare to these monsters...
bloodgutsnglory 2 years ago 3
This comment has received too many negative votes show
"compact cars ruined the muscle car era"?? Grow up, the vast majority of "muscle cars" were more bark than bite-thirsty, cumbersome and not all that quick. People look back at 60's cars through rose tinted glasses, seeing only the top end survivors and restos loaded up with MODERN goodies and think that this was commonplace. Yes, I'd love a 4 speed hemi charger as much as anyone, but that's nostalgia. Cheer up, modern cars are far QUICKER and responsive than the wallowing relics of yesteryear.
nem427 2 years ago
Zando24 2 years ago 2
Are you referring to the COPO 427s? Because they were pretty rare options with very steep prices that put them well beyond the reach of the average Joe. Isn't that the whole "muscle car" concept was about-cheap horsepower for the ordinary man? The L88 engine was peaky, expensive, lacked low end grunt, needed frequent overhauls, race gas, soggy throttle response....etc. To get the stellar 1/4 mile times, manufacturers supplied "ringer" specials with slicks and (nemerically) high rear ends.
nem427 2 years ago
Not the COPO's, but those would fit to. I'm not tryng to say that muscle cars are the greatest cars ever, They weren't made to be. However, its not like their modern counterparts blow them out of the water, like you implied. You brought up price, but I'm not sure what you meant by it. It's cheaper to buy a classic muscle car that'll go faster, then to buy a newer one. Compare Challengers. New one is heavier, and not as powerful. It does have advanced technology however, so it'd be a drivers race
Zando24 2 years ago
Ok. Since we all agree that the cars of the 60s have a huge appeal, and the domestic car manufacturers are struggling, if those old cars are so good, why don't they simply put them back into production and clean up at the showrooms??
nem427 2 years ago
You're right, few did run in the 12's. The only model I know of that wasn't special edition, would be the Roadrunner. Most ran 13s. Which still competes with many cars today. Not supercars, but many cars. I'm not talking about collectable muscle cars btw, I'm saying that performance-to-price ratio, nothing can beat classic muscle cars. You see, I respect a hot rod, old or new, and while the old ones are alot cooler, we are just talking performance here, and for their time, they're excellent
Zando24 2 years ago
But remember, back in '69 there were far more slant six valiants than hemis...
nem427 2 years ago
Indeed there were more 6 cyls...kinda like today. I'm not sure what your drive, but I do own a muscle car, and I have $17,000 invested in it. Nothing stock can beat it either(that isn't way out of its price range.) Modern muscle? I have their number. I'm not saying I don't agree with you about how today's cars, "still got it." They do, but trust me. Classic muscle is nothing to mess with. For the money...simply nothing else compares. I didn't give you thumbs down btw, I respect opinions lol.
Zando24 2 years ago
What I mean is, $30k today, equates to about $4000 in 1969 money. That would pay for an L88 motor but not a car to put it in! These is no way that a highly collectable muscle car would be offered for sale for less than the cost of a second hand modern car. In spite of what you may read, very few cars of the 60s could run 13s let alone 12s. The gross HP ratings were highly exagerrated (not underrated as is commonly claimed) - the new charger develops more power than the original.
nem427 2 years ago
Can you provide any evidence that they were overrated? It's common knowledge that they underrated them for insurance reasons. The Hemi? 500 hp, as rated by the NHRA, who would have no gains by being dishonest. Most were rated at about 50 hp lower than they really were. The new Charger doesn't put out more horsepower, like I said its technology. It's also alot heavier. PLUS, the Charger doesn't run the 1/4 any faster anyway, so I'm not sure where you are getting your information.
Zando24 2 years ago
Yes, up until '71, the US manufacturers measured their engines in gross horsepower ie without power steering, fan belt, water pump a/c, fed with unrealistically cold air exhausting through straight through pipes etc. etc.. So even the rated flywheel horsepower was fabricated. Add in a horrendously parastic drivetrain and the rear wheel horsepower is a LONG way from the official ratings. Modern cars may offer seemingly modest power-but they deliver what they say they will; the old ones did not.
nem427 2 years ago
Look, are there any credible source to back up your statement? Plenty of sources have tested hemi's and NOONE has ever said, they were overrated. Except you. I ran a damn 318 that almost put out as much as you claim the Hemi does. The Hemi put out alot more than 370, no matter what they measured them with. If it did, it wouldn't be as fast as it is. How do the old ones not deliver on what they say? They beat their counterparts for 40 years, and up until now there wasn't much competition
Zando24 2 years ago
Your 318 was good for <150 hp -from the factory, about as good as a modern 2. litre turbo diesel, with far less torque. If you want to live in the fantasy land regarding 60's car then do so. The overrating is well known-but a lot of people refuse to believe it. Look, do you think automotive engineers achieved nothing in 30+ years, or the Japanese/Europeans persevered with more complicated high revving engines when they could have just used a good ol' 60's V8??
nem427 2 years ago
You fail to you realize my point. Well, before I get there. Let me start by saying my old 318 was 225, which I admit is 5 less then they said...but simply put, you were wrong on that statement. I wasn't even alive in the 60's or 70's, so I have no nostalgia from that time to "deny" facts. All I have is experience. I work on my car myself, and drive it to. No fantasy here, it's simply faster than alot(not all) modern cars. Don't bash things because you can't have them.
Zando24 2 years ago
NHRA used a formula to try to rate race versions of street engines based on the manufacturers' gross ratings. Since the gross ratings were meaningless, it doesn't mean anything. An "as delivered" hemi MIGHT have delivered ~370hp NET flywheel hp on good day-not 425-500. Interestingly cadillac rated the '70 500 CID V8 at 400 hp @4400 RPM. The cadillac valvetrain was junk and tended to float @ ~4200 RPM
nem427 2 years ago
Oh, and for the last time...I never said modern cars weren't quick. I like them to. Read my whole posts. Just don't fool yourself into thinking that even if muscle cars are old, they aren't fast either. I also want you to notice how the modern versions aren't any faster than the originals. All I know is that if I can beat modern cars with mine, for half the price, it proves the continuing worth of muscle cars. Beating Civics doesn't "make me feel good", but beating modern muscle sure does
Zando24 2 years ago
What are you running? $17,000 isn't going to buy you a 60's muscle car is it? It will buy you a very good c5 5.7 corvette, which, in "as delivered to customer" form will beat most, if not all FACTORY original 60's muscle cars. Remember, virtually all the "old muscle" being raced today has a whole host of modern carbs, intakes, heads, pistons, oils...etc etc. tucked under the hood which people forget are not period correct and make a big difference.
