The scene where Dia points the gun at his father speaks to this. You can see how the Commando was probably like Dia at one point. Powerful stuff.

The only unrealistic thing about this scene is the MI24V hind wouldn't do passing "Gun Runs". Doctrine suggests that it would hover or side hover using all of it's available weaponry. Considering the fact the entire helicopter is armor plated, used AK's wouldn't even hurt it.

That guy is a mercenary, a man who kills for money, and yet he is willing to risk his life to help Soloman find and rescue his son. And he does so with his life.

And while the RUF's child soldiers were kids, they were hardened, drugged-up soldiers who committed some horrible atrocities. It was kill or be killed for those who fought them.
