@cece6145 Ignorant? Didn't you start this entire argument by saying classical music is "gay"? And news flash, you should read up on YOUR history. Rap was started in around a few decades ago, and classical music has been the foundation for everything that followed. And another tip, typing in a ghetto accent will not get your opinion across. You should stop trolling so people who want to see what others think about this piece won't have to see the garbage you post on the internet.
Why does Justin Bieber come up everywhere i turn on youtube? we get it, you love him or you hate him, stop bringing him into everything! there are trolls on both side of this fight and I'm sick of it. so, stfu or gtfo, i just wanna listen to Tchaikovsky in peace.
Anyone else think that cece6145 needs to go back to kindergarten to learn how to speak and not to be trashy?? HONESTLY! If you don't like it, don't click on it! Go watch what you want... And leave us alone.
Ok guys, of course Justin Beiber has been proven to be retarded by the laws of physics. I just cannot see how you can even compare an ignorant little child to one of the greatest classical composers of all time! PYOTR ILICH TCHAIKOVSKY vs. beiber. lol listen to 5:14 and 8:29 beiber is soooooo owned!!

Eh, I was never too much of a fan of Romeo and Juliet. Tchaikovsky is great, Shakespeare is awesome, but... to me, there was always something missing in the Romeo and Juliet. In my opinion, this does not reminds me of Tchaikovsky; more like...a Russian Beethoven. Only that he is not Tchaikovsky.
to me it's a flawed treasure and definitely not one of his best. i think he could have rewritten some sections to make the overall piece organized better, not so bipolar, and have smoother modulations, but it has its redeeming moments. the end really paints the picture that romeo and juliet are together even in death, and to me that's very haunting yet poignant
What precisely are the qualifications that one must acquire in order to proffer one's humble opinions with regard to a 20-minute Tchaikovsky work over YouTube? It's not as if I expect my views to be published in Gramophone, so I don't think I am being presumptuous.
Your comments are far from humble. You suggest that he should rewrite some sections of the piece. Such a suggestion is ridiculous to me unless you have some particular expertise in the area. Your comments sounded to me like the pretentious ramblings of a music student or part-time enthusiast than that of a person with any knowledge of that matter.
Looking back, there were arrogant value judgments contained in what I wrote, so I concede your point. Earlier, my pride possibly blinded me from seeing that. No hard feelings and thanks for listening to this piece.
@wake241 to be honest, i didnt see his other comment, but i think some things could possibly be changed. not criticising him, but like when i write things i change them all the time im sure he was the same! this is some unreal piece of work. music is subjective, so like many people are completely infatuated with shakespeare, others find him melodramatic. im sure its the same with tchaikovsky. why would expertise be required anyways? define expertise?
@wake241 Actually, I believe that there is nothing wrong with politely critiquing, even if it's critiquing one of the greats, and no matter what level the person critiquing is on. They might be flawed in their inexperience, but, it's all part of the learning process. We learn by listening and analyzing. But also, it's nice to just lose yourself in the music and not even think about analyzing it. :)
@cerratovending what you're hearing at 7:29 is English horn, not oboe. Although I would say that the English horn starting at 7:29 should be cut from that section just so we can here those strings.
@mahlerite i think ur pretty spot on here with this comment! bipolar-ness was intended i think, but i think a few subtle changes EG: around 2:05 there is just completely random pizzicato, and once that theme thing ends it just stops and goes back to arco with no blending. thats a little bit poor imo. it sounds cool on its own but put into the song its kinda like pink floyd filler tracks on dark side of the moon or something, just doesnt fit so well as the other parts
I do appreciate the reinforcement, Phoenix8374, and it seems that you get my drift. I didn't mean to come off as pretentious in that comment from a year ago, but I believe the way I worded my opinions did give off self-important vibes. Whoops!

It's a melody to die for.
I believe it was Balakirev who on hearing it said to Tschaikowsky he could hug him for it.

That modulation to Db major for the love theme makes absolutely no sense, yet sounds so right.
I also love the tension building right before the strife theme kicks in, it's breathtaking.
