when i add the particular effecet, i go to Emitter and change it to Lights and it pops up a box saying:

In this mode lights are used as particle emitters.

Only lights whose names start with "lights are used.

Create a light with Layer> New>Light.

To change the name "Light open Trapcode Particular's Options box.

Particular needs to know the specific Light you want the emitter to be. Even if there is only one light in your comp. So its looking for a Light with a specific name. Usualy you need to change the light in question to "Emitter". Just select the light layer, press enter, and rename it "Emitter". You can change the name Particular looks for in Particular's "Options" menu at the top of the effect window.

Particular, and now particular 2 IMO has defined the use of particles in AE. Trapcode, the geniuses behind the plugin are well worth supporting as they have created some dozen other very powerful and useful plugins.

Chances are you have seen almost all of these in medium to low budget, films, tv programs and commercials.

All you need is particular. Other plug-ins lack the versatility.

To make things smoother, boost your particles per second, pull the camera back and use a lot of Bezier curves between your position keyframes for the your emitter light.

Make sure your importing the plug in onto a solid. (noobish I know)

Also make sure your active camera is set to its native spot(aka hit reset). 3d particles will appear by default at 0,0,0 xyz.

I'm honestly sorry if I'm wrong, and only you know if I am so you won't gai anything by lying, but everything here was done in tutorials by Andrew Kramer from Video Copilot.  If I'm right, and you used all those tutorials, then you should have given credit. You put them together very well. Light streaks, SureTarget, DOF from the "Advanced Camera Movements" tutorial, among others.

BTW guys, I used a Light as the emitter, and animated it. Animating Trapcodes particular "emitter location" is a nightmare. Best to use a light, or a parented nul object.

The grey is the absence of the green/blue glow. The glow was done with a simple 'glow' filter.

The DOF (depth of field) on the camera ignores a lot of the 'glow' when it is not in focus.

So only the parts of the particles/line that are In-focus glow, the others stay grey.

NICE VID its a good intro. i like this sort of effect and i'm tring to learn it. I Downloaded a trapecode - particular v1.5 trial from their site, but I do not know how to install it to AE.

The plugin came as a rar so i extracted the files but they are not reconized by AE

Hey Bever.

The wobble is the expression you wrote in there. if you remember, (5,100). It adds random movement. Delete that. Then you should be able to animate the light emitter as much as you want!

i used this plug-in in after fx, and tried adrew kramers light strokes effect, so i am wondering have you generate it, so that you can control the light stroke? mine just wobbles where ever it wants to wobble, i mean i can do miner adjustments, but how do you control it?
