Blogoteque tries to make camerawork an artform in itself, not just a visual recording of the artist. I think this cameraman is trying to represent the unsettled, anxious feel of Annie's music with the jerky motion... maybe not the most pleasant thing to look at, but I don't hate it.
People bitching about the camera operator need to remember that before MTV, music was about sound. It still should be. Great performance of a great song by a great artist. The camera work is irrelevant.
La Blogotheque needs to go back to production school...a brilliant artist's performance almost sidelined by an idiot with a camera who calls himself a producer.
When I watched this video for the first time, I hoped some day I could be as good as a guitar player as her and/or be able to play the song, thinking it would take me years of practice. Only five months later, I can now play it on the guitar. :D
i would be sitting next to her smokin the fattest blunt ever...ppl need to learn how to forget about the many problems in their lives, sit back and enjoy the beauty around us...it makes me sad that not one person stops too listen...

@ImTestingSleeping If she was performing on the street i would stop and listen, but the fact is most street performers aren't particularly note worthy
@ImTestingSleeping But if you stopped at every one, you would get nowhere. Not all street performers hold permits as they do in London. For every talented performer there are ten poor performers in most places.
@KoRnn69 exactly! My reaction would be something like: "ohh it sounds pretty I think I'll go closer to take a look- OH GOD A CAMERA GO AWAY" *covers face with hands and runs away*
@ImTestingSleeping It's only because a) French people have no idea what she's saying b) they have no idea who she is, and they just perceive her as just another guitar player looking for spare change
@ImTestingSleeping your comment reminds me of "stop and hear the music" the video of Joshua Bell who normally gets paid over 1,000 dollars a minute to play violin, setting up in the DC metro and playing some of the world's most difficult and beautiful songs on his 300 year old Stradivarius for an experiment set up and filmed by the washington post. not surprisingly nobody really noticed or cared. it's worth watching and reading the article though.
Why must we constitute music to superficial characteristics, especially when it comes to the female gender. Every possible music video on youtube, including covers by girls, has a myriad of comments reflecting their beauty, sexuality, or marital status. And why must beauty be a double standard. Grizzly Bear endeavors to look as sweating and repulse for concerts but they're given no criticism. St. Vincent's work is amazing. That's all that should matter.
@remember132 No one said her work doesn't matter. I'm sure most of the people that typed in St. Vincent in the search engine didn't do it just to see her for her looks. They searched to listen to some good music. As far as people admiring her looks, they're doing just that.
Not a patch on other lesser known female artists like Soap&Skin and Fever ray imo. Good that she is doing her own thing though, not selling out like many female artists.
Zzzzzzzzzzzz This dirge should be used in Police interrogations. The mearest threat to play it on loop would get the would be convict to confess in no time.

Im not saying she's bad really, she's just a little disassociated and lacking in definition and coherence.. somewhere between Devendra Banhart and Sid Barret.. There is a lack of solidity and therefore, content. You should not do any psychedelics if this music seems solid to you.
I AGREE, she is "unique", very creative and artistic, But I think her talents combine in a way that is a bit short of genius.
