  • kingdoms of camelot :D

  • willhelm tell? :D

  • The long haired guy seems to do most of the work

  • poopface

  • did anyone noticed the guy with long hair didnt do anything??

  • im sorry but this is a ridiculous construction. ballistas were designed for firing at a much more horizontal angle, and by looking at your firing none of the missiles would have done any damage to anything. The arrow doesn't even go straight. Ballistas were much higher tension than this rubbish, to the extent that arrows were known to impale 4 ranks of men at once. this is actually an insult to the genius of roman military engineering. leave it to the professionals

  • @Vespasian12345 its a school project, in case you didn't read the description. you wanna insult theirs? make a better one.

  • @Vespasian12345 For one who seems to know neither the pluralisation nor the origin of the device, you manage a great deal of criticism. A) Plural is "ballistae" and B) Ballista is of Greek origin, not Roman.

For a school project drawn up and constructed by the students, this ballista is pretty impressive.

  • @Vespasian12345 None of the missiles would have done damage? Did you see the hole the ball was in. If that hit someone I'd say it'd do a fair bit of damage. Professionals only know what they're doing thanks to learning which is what these guys are doing so whereas yes it isn't perfect I should like to point out that neither are you through some clear portrayals of ignorance in your comment.

  • @Vespasian12345 The professionals have all been dead for 2K years!

  • imagine if that ball hit your car.

id bee like shit the greeks are back

  • i wish they had shot giant 2x4 darts...

  • hey thanks I got one.

  • U should put a flare in it and fire it at night

  • I LOVE VSAUCE!

  • Next time use a bolt

  • The ideal angle after calculating air resistance is 41 degrees not the 45 they stated

  • @HikingVegas They stated that their farthest shot was @ 45, maybe they fired @ 41 and the wind was blowing really hard in their direction.

  • Great Job, would be much easy to be transported if you had added wheels on the bottom though. Just a suggestion.

  • Oh man, these babies were the ancient equivalent of the Dragunov.

  • I just wanted to say that you guys did an amazing job! I also have to build a ballista and I need your help. How do you make the torsion spring for the half-spring? How did you twist the cords and what kind did you use? Also, how did you make your trigger mechanism? We are looking for a simple design with easy to buy parts. Lastly, we need to launch a tennis ball and will need to modify the slide. What should we do, something similar to yours?

  • If that 2.5 kg ball hits you in your head there probably be 0.5 % you will be paralyzed and 99,5 % dead :D

  • sehr gut

  • 5 romans saw this video

  • would like to see how an actual ballista projectile would fly

  • NICE!!!!!!!!

Im working on multiple balistas/trebuchets for my science fair... :D

  • That would be... useful. >:)

  • Can you send me the pdf project? Please!

  • Now all you need to do is make some explosive heads and we can take down the govment.

  • 3:08 ha.........

  • how do you make the torsion springs ( the twisted rope or other matirial)

  • hope you got an A

  • Hey guys can pls answer me a question?

as you have installed this trigger mechanism?

    Pls write back *peace*

  • @Ghostridder14 I was part of the team, what's your question exactly?

  • good job!

  • That awesome you puched a giant hole in the ground. You would definatly wouldnt want to be hit by this. This is pretty powerful.

  • Very cool.

  • hey porque no hacen una flecha con plumas para que caiga bien al suelo

  • I absolutely love that sound it makes when you wind it up.

  • Astala vista, Ballista! xD

  • holy hell that was crazy what that ball did

  • i wanna buy one of those for 60 bucks.. gonna shoot fireballs on my neighboor's car

  • @denniswarcrafter1 lmao good idea

  • haah watch the guy with the long hair when they are setting it up,he hardly does anything and keeps his hands in his pockets the whole time

  • nice blista but it seems that the arrow doesnt fly traigt you have to make the head heavyer

  • Good choice of music, Gladiator was a good movie. Also, awesome Ballista!

  • i need help- how should i connect the wood on my ballista? its about this big. would a simple mortis and tenon do? should I nail them? and what wood should i use for the body and arms?

    what rope should i use?

  • for the rope you kan the best yuws nylon

  • hey i built two ballistas already i know what im talking about. havent posted my videos yet.but defenetly use screws and washers.okay drill a hole the size of the washer you are goin to be using. put the washer in the hole, pre drill a hole in the middle of the washer already in the wood. predrill a hole smaller than the thickness of screw you will be using. drill in the screw... it will be secure and rock solid... oh pre drill everything or the wood will split.

  • imagine getting drilled in the head by that thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • imagine trying to aim at somebodys head with that thing!!!!!!!....!!

  • if it was a large group with people very close together the.then it would possily work

  • i would prefer to shoot with 2 kg heavy pots full of burning ~medieval napalm~ :P (dont know the english word for this mixture...^^)

  • greek fire?

  • google it

  • yea im allways wasting time for searching words in goodle when i also can discribe this word...

  • thats it :)

  • pile of burning shit. it was the rage during the middle ages.

  • Hi, I'm trying to build one of these for a Classics project. I'm have to be able to build an effective ballista that's will only be about a foot long or so, and I'm having trouble finding any good specs for that size. Can you help me out please?

  • lol pirates of the caribean music. Its nice.

  • nope not pirates, its the gladiator music, im convinced pirates of the caribbean composer copied from it

  • pirates of carribean and gladiator have same composer. Hans Zimmer. All his music sounds like that.

  • dont forget mw2

i see 4 weeks ago just saying

  • he made the Last Samurai Ost too

  • Wow. I dont say it often, if ever. BRAVO!!! you sirs have by far done one of thwe coolest thing i have ever seen.

  • imagine getting hit with that ball...that mud would be you

  • Your website helped me building my own ballista... it reaches 130 meters.

  • FUCKING SWEET WITH THE BALL

  • my friends an I built one of these out of a bowflex excercize machine, after we made it so it had more torque we could get a max range of 146 feet shooting a 3ft peice of rebar

  • Nice!!! do you have any detailed work sketches, or perhaps detailed pics. did you have any fletching on the dart, i think its tail was a bit heavy... butt Nice!!

  • What is the music from?

  • that must have cost alot to make

  • Haha brutal!

  • the true weapon from roman empire, a destructive shoot

  • so if a pole goes through your car windhield, you know who it is

  • Shoot some rebar outta it!

    XD

  • Thats one nice ballista! Top marks.

You're machine is a good attempt to make a ballista, but it has a problem with the bowstring. You have to make it wider, like a belt made out of rope, so you wouldn't need that

odd wooden piece between the ball and the launch mechanism that lowers your accuracy and power.

Ihre Ballista ist sehr gut konstruktiert!

  • wads the range of the bolt shot?

  • That's a great ballista. I've made one of about the same size but of less power. I couldn't coil it very efficiently. It fires a large fletched bolt a moderate distance. There's a video of it on my channel.

  • lol, test shot = massive hole =D

  • imagine if that was someones head.....

  • woooooow! amazing

    great work guys

    impressive that 2kg ball hole

  • That was brilliant, well done.

  • whats the name of the mucisal piece? (btw nice)

  • what the reload time and whats the range of a normal bolt?

  • FIRE!!!!!

  • Love it! If I ever get rich I want to build a Ballista that will throw telephone poles (easily aquired at your local electric service work yard) tipped with giant metal broadheads.

  • Thats a freakin' awesome idea!

  • it was not their idea, this was a ancient greek weapon.

  • @browning50cal1 I think it's Roman

  • @browning50cal1 uused in medieval times hurray for history

  • @browning50cal1 no shit

  • @browning50cal1 This is a rebuild of an ancient siege engine. It was contstructed and tested during a school project.

    read the desciption

  • @browning50cal1 no shit

  • @browning50cal1 ballista was a greek weapon, but was improved by romans.

  • thats cool wish i had that. really need to shoot my drama teacher

  • superb video i wouldn't want to get in the way of what ever it throws at me. Did you see how far the ball went into the ground?!

  • nice ballista ,ive made one myself, what materials did you use?

  • Awesome ballista project there.

Anybody know the music tracks used in this vid?

  • Well done!

  • well now you can threaten to shoot a guys car with a metal ball if anyone makes fun of you
