Moni Kellerman has photos she took of this great guitarist as well as many, many more artist from 'Live Performances in Hamburg'. I checked out her website and saw photos of Emily. For hours today, I checked out photos on Emily's various websites as well as music.
West Montgomery was my all time favorite jazz guitarist until Emily. Now I have two all time favorites. She's so smooth and expressive, a real vertuoso.
Ah, Emily Remler: The first young jazz player I heard when I started playing in the mid-'80s, a great inspiration still. Wonderful musician, missed by all who heard her. Never knew that she worked with Barbara Dennerlein, an equally awesome player.
The guitar, btw, is a Gibson ES 125T. Sounds like a fair bit of reverb or chorus on this performance. And to think I had the cutaway version and had to sell it...
I had the privilege of watching Emily Remler and Monty Alexander performing this song live with Venezuelan jazz musicians, Mr. Hector Hernandez on acoustic bass and "El Pavo" Frank on Drums at th Teatro Municipal, Caracas
Man, Emily just could not stop grooving all over the place on this one!!!!!! Babs is right in there too, muy simpatico support and swinging solo to boot as well. Wish this would come out on a DVD so I could have one!!!!
Emily.. you go girl!! I love the little bit at 0.58 to 1.01. Lovely bass lines too, I'm going to have to check out the Benson version. Emily you are missed! :(
I'm a guitar freak who gets into these great looking chicks that can wail away on the six string. Emily is my latest discovery. Been gone for 18 years, a shame. I had read it was a heart attack, but I just read a commenter on another video mention heroin. Well, it is the jazzers drug. A heart attack at 32 certainly isn't impossible but not real likely.
bibihyfor; Good lord! I knew Ike Isaacs back in the UK through my parents.(they were anglo indian like Ike) Emily was special. She was gifted in everyway. I recall her suffering from bad stage fright and having to quell it with substances. I think she felt that her playing was always scrutinised.(being a girl)
@PositivelyBored he still has very impressive skills for his age now jajaja... Its great more and more material is surfacing... love him in trio with barbara dennerlein, rocker in Screaming Headless Torsos, Drumnbassing in Nerve, jazzing with the Vienna art orchestra...

I have the full-bodied non-cutaway ES125 - best sounding plywood box I've ever played. I'd never sell mine!
Then again Emily would have sounded good playing any guitar. At least her music lives on.

Jojo Mayer, the most influential modern drummer of the past 20 years. Very impressive skills for his age, here.
