@102LBC because he failed to back up the x cubans and fidel castro stayed in power..... if fidel castro was taken out like what richard nixon would have done..... cuba would be a democracy and the cuban missle crisis would have never happened
How great yet terrible man is to himself and this planet. The attributes of our race are also our weaknesses, and each day we near our self-destruction. As this movie states later on, "the will of good men" is all that stands b/t us and the devil. I don't care what flaws JFK had: he, along with a few good men, were the ones who stood between man and the horror this intro displays... and that, in my mind, is something very few Presidents (or just men in general, for that matter) have done.
We as a race with all of are knowledge came to THIS! as result we all live in fear that one day we will burn from the very weapons that we made to protect us from other men in the world. what a sad example of intelligence. HUMANITY I AM, I WILL, I WAS! BUT life will find a way and always will .
@GuiltySparkmeister you are a good (BRILLIANT) man! god bless! you want to read two good books about the cuban missle crisis, read one minute to midnight by michael dobbs and the crisis years by michael beschloss. both are GOOD books! the movie is good too!
@GuiltySparkmeister i CERTAINLY agree with your statement as i myself LOVE color! being an mtf (male to female) transsexual, i certainly ADORE color, ESPECIALLY bright, pretty, and FEMININE colors! thank you for the comment! god bless you!
@GuiltySparkmeister i MOST DEFINITELY assure you that you are NOT alone in your views. i likewise find them ABSOLUTELY LOVELY!! as general patton stated it: i DO love war! i DO love it so!
do you know what the ONLY defense is against a nuclear war? when you see that bright orange/yellow/red blast, calmly stick your head between your legs and KISS YOUR ASS (ARSE IN BRITISH ENGLISH) GOODBYE!!!!!!
@happyburial Reagan had an excellent record in dealing/negotiating with the Soviets (especially when it came to nuclear arms control)........now if GWB had been in charge......well, we might not be here.
Was American and Allied intervention in WWII pointless?
Was American intervention during the first Gulf War pointless?
War sucks, I don't think anyone can argue with that, but every now and then someone goes apeshit crazy, and someone has to stop them, and unfortunately at times this requires war
GabrielStefan please shut up and make up your mind. DarkThiefAya said WAR is pointless. Allied intervention in WWII was just a response to Nazi intervention in Europe. The war itself was already running.
He doesn't NEED to make up his mind because there's really no contradiction there. What DarkThiefAya said was naive pacifist bullshit! Freedom isn't free, just deal with it! I can criticize my governemnt, from the president on down, with impunity. The reason I HAVE that right is that people fought, killed and died for me to have it. People in places like China & Iran do NOT have that right. You need a better appreciation of history, amigo.
just blablabla. did you even read what darkthief and gabriel said you dumbfuck?
darkthief is right! war is pointless. it's not war among nuclear super powers that gives people like you the right to open their filthy mouths to bark some shit no one wants to listen to. gabriel asked if allied intervention in ww2 was pointless. war is war and an intervention is just an intervention not a synonym for war. get a dictionary stupid.
Your dumb, you know the movie is presented in a bias way so you think kennedy is amazing. It's bigger than kennedy did a good job and the movie potrays things differently than how it was. the US were the agressors and don't forget it.
Your dumb, the movie is based on the kennedy tapes. Allowing these missiles would of been a major strategic advantage for the Soviets who could, in that situation, quickly have made a decisive nuclear first strike if they wished to do so. The fact that kennedy did not opt for an invasion of Cuba and was still able to peacefully get the missiles out, was an amazing political achievement.
@esb84 During WWII Khrushchev fought at the battle of stalingrad where over one million soviets perished . Thus Khrushchev understood the concept of mass casualties.
The flare in the 1:12 minutes of the Tsar Bomb, the fireball is the test Castle Bravo, the second explosion was presumed to be the Trinity test, the First Atomic Bomb. the third is a test in Nevada in 1957, the fourth and fifth explosion tests were unaware that,
and the last bomb in the 1:52 is Castle Bravo test.
This movie was outstanding!!! Bruce Greenwood's portrayal of JFK was the absolute best I've ever seen. It wasn't an over-exaggerated caricature, but a subtle, realistic and powerful performance. Greenwood should have won an Oscar for this.
Oh no, I get it just we watch is at 6 in the morning its alot of talking so... History 1st hour dark room talking 6 in the morning. I guess I think it sucked because its early as hell.
I can't believe they make you start school at 6am. I feel sorry for you guys now. I graduated 25 years ago and we went to school from 8:15am to 2:15pm and had our lockers. I have a friend whose son goes to the same high school we did and they took out all the lockers and you have to carry all your books in a back pack. That sucks, it was fun to stop off at your locker between classes and bullshit with someone. Take it easy guy you'll make it.
I've seen the movie several times Mr. Guitarist thank you very much. He said the movie sucked ball sacks so he either didn't understand it or was just bored by it. Thank God for John F. Kennedy and by the way, George W. Bush sucks ball sacks.
Incredibly underrated movie! Bruce Greenwood was SO good, heck everyone was. We should all be thankful to JFK that the world didn't end during that crisis.
Yea really! Don't you love the fact that JFK's administration was able to avoid a war with PROVEN weapons of mass destruction only 90 miles away from Florida, and W's administration was quick to rush to a war against a country that did not attack us and was halfway around the world who had theoretical weapons of mass destruction (last count I believe was ZERO)
Seeing this great movie definitely made me wonder what the Bush administration would have done differantly than Kennedy. I'm sure Bush would have invaded Cuba and ordered the US Navy to blow the incoming Soviet ships right out of the water. The problem is we were dealing with a much more dangerous enemy that was capable of retaliating.
No. It is just cutscenes of different missle and nuclear tests run by both the USA and the USSR. A striking way to start an AWESOME movie, I might say...
Also, the bomb at Hiroshima was minuscule compared to the ones shown here. And it was delivered via bomber, not via ballistic missile. Little Boy (the bomb at Hiroshima) had a 14-16 kiloton yield. The ones shown here are in the range of MEGAtons. Actually, the most powerful nuclear weapon ever detonated was built by the USSR - the Tsar Bomb - and it had a blast of 30 MT: more than 1000x greater than that at Hiroshima. And people wonder why JFK was so stressed during the Cubam Missle Crisis...
fuckin a right it's bad...I flipped the channels on to this movie today and at 1st for a second thought he was trying to be from New York...then it hit me...oh my God he is trying to do a Boston accent. Maybe the worst ever but Morrow in "Quiz Show" was worse. No one in Boston talks like the Kennedy's, other than the Kennedy's.
Every time I see this, I always shudder at the fact that these weapons exist. It sends a chill down my spine. God help us should we ever have to use them.
i tell you i have this movie on DVD i think there is a lot my grandfather doesn't want to tell me about his life but anyways this is a very cool movie this time was real terrifying another good movie spoof on this is blast from the past.
Holy shit I'm watching this in history class... American history. A lot of people hate America, but it's amazing how their nation has developed over the years; from the colonial period to the Revolution, to the Civil War, to WWI and WWII... and then the Cold War, Vietnam and Iraq Wars. Awesome.
good movie. cept in it, the guy playing JFK has less of the "jfk accent" than Kevin Costner's character, Kenny O'Donnell. BUT the guy playing RFK looks exactly like RFK.
steven culp playing RFK is uncanny in the looks! i thought kevin costner's version of the boston accent was too exaggerated...i loved bruce greenwood's JFK! got me obsessed with them both! wonderful movie!
Awesome and terrifying. It makes you think what World War III would look like should it ever occur. The war would probably last only a few hours after the first missiles were launched. 3 billion human lives lost in 2 hours.
Thank you, this has been added to our playlists...
