  • Tie it off to what? Could you demo that too please - the complete trap?

Just a note, too (I'm sure you already know) - if you're going to cover up a trap with leaves, etc. do NOT take the material from immediately surrounding your trap. You disturb the ground if you do, and it's noticeable... it can spook whatever it is you're trying to trap.

  • so can i gust use this to replace a trip wire

  • Next time if you to cut out some of the wind, try covering the mic in a balloon made of some kind of netting - anything that will cut the moving air

  • You REALLLLLLLLLYYYYY Need a windcutter.

  • looool macgyver!!!!!!

  • (might want to fix that wind noise :p ) Thanks for sharing this, always look forward to your videos, I try new things by you guys every time I go out.

  • heres and idea. add a toggle switch spring snare in the bottom of the hole, run the string across the ground with a heavy weight on the end, so when the animal steps into the trap its leg is also broken by the falling weight of the rock, or log on the other end of the string. could use a cliff, log, steep hill or dig another hole for which the weight has space to fall to get the leg bone to snap.

  • @KAPichon might be awhile digging a big enough hole for a counter weight with a canteen cup.

  • what happens if the deer doesn't step in the very center? what happens if it steps between the two rings? would the sticks still catch?

Could you solve this potential problem by making the rings closer together?

  • Yeah MacGyver!

  • have you ever caught anything with this trap?

  • Is the website up yet from your friend? Thanks for the video!

  • Well done....another great video Steve.....I find all your videos informative and easy to follow. Where I live it's illegal to trap without a license but that doesn't mean I can't learn how. Keep up the good work and I hope to see more great vids like this

  • Very well done video. Excellent instruction and explanation.

  • i just got a brand new buck knife oh yeaaa, lol subbed

  • nice job!!!!!!

  • omg he has a tomahawk trow it !!!! in no way is this related to call of duty

  • Me and my son can't wait for Dual Survival season 2! Dave and Cody are awesome!

  • @TTmaniax

I respect animals for what they are................FOOD !

  • oh i hope people arent nasty to the animals when they catch them.. i hope they are respected for what they are.

  • @AbattoirDream food?

  • Good video. Thanks Critr' !

  • I have to agree on that axe being a one tool option...thats how I feel about the wetterlings large hunters axe....I have done everything with it that I can do with a knife so far.

  • awesome. great instruction. thanks for the knowledge!

  • love the hatchet, whats it called where can I find it?

  • @peterf16 its a granfors bruks small forest axe I believe....One of Our Brothers is setting up a web store so they can be bought here in the states.

  • Bruks Mini Belt Hatchet

  • did you catch the dog at the end

  • That was definitely slick enjoyed the demo

  • That is a pretty neat idea for making a trap more efficient. Thanks.

  • I know you didn't want a comment on the wind issue..However you can use a wool sock to put over the cam mic. Or if the mic is set into the cam body cut a square and tape it on over the mic the wool patch will buffer out the wind..works great! "Wind Sock" is a technical term.

  • @happersilderness Thats the name of it. Thanks, I could not remember.

  • If you were stuck in the woods and there were alot of wild turkey in the area, what type of trap would you set up to catch a turkey?

  • @gater796 I have a trap for that. It's basically a narrowing channel made with stakes. Baited to get a turkey to walk in until the channel is to narrow to spread it's wings. Turkeys, geese, etc. will not back up.-Critr'

  • @woodcrafter76 I wonder if the same principle would apply to upland game birds? I'd like to try that on the prairie chickens and ruffed and sharp tail grouse we have around here.

  • @woodcrafter76 Next trap video ......... Turkey Trap (hint, hint).

  • @gater796 I'll see what I can do.- Critr'

  • how dose the GB compare to the wetterlings?

  • @herpingmad145 The Weterrlings smallest axe has a head a lot heavier than this one. The Wetterlings axes are top quality IMO. -Critr'

  • Ingenious little trap.Looks similar to a coon trap I've seen.Drill an 1-1/2" -2 " hole in a log 3" deep and drive 4 nails at an angle inward similar to this apache trap. Drop a shiny object in the hole.Coon reaches in and his foot gets caught in the nails when he clenches his fist around the shiny. And no, the coon wont drop it to get his foot out. He'll hold on to that object and fight the trap till you pry it from his dead paw.Not very humane and very illegal so dont use it unless desperate

  • where can find grapevines in the woods?

  • @shokaboom When I say "grape vines" I'm referring to Clematis. It grows in trees all over my area..-Critr'

  • excellent !

  • Wow, that's a very interesting and ingenious trap. Well demonstrated, Critr'.

  • did a apache teach you how to do this?? just wondering.

  • Dude, that's an Awesome trap....I'm gona try that on some Hogs;-)

  • now tie that sting to a grenade pin and you got your self a very nice home invasion deterrent, just kidding love the videos im a subscriber

  • what kind of ax is that

  • wouldnt an animal smell human all over this no matter how well hidden? has this trap caught anything?

  • Nice, Thank you

  • At the end when I saw the golden retriever I thought "Oh no! Don't snare the dog!"

  • NIce

  • Great video Steve. Seems like a simple yet effective trap. I'll have to give it a go.

    Nate

  • Question: Would it be better to make the small circle a little larger? It seems the target area is quite small, but I have never made one of these traps so pardon my ignorance. Just a thought.

  • Nice vid, good to learn about how to use materials in the woods when you don’t have any other resources, that’s what’s it’s all about!!!!!

  • Nice and simpel trap

  • Wow, cool trap! Thanks, Greetings Sepp

  • thanks ... i love these videos.... and to finish off the animal run up on it with a boat oar and blast it in the back of the neck!!

  • nice job

  • I thought you were going to demonstrate the trap on your dog at the end! haha

  • If us companies made axes in the same way people would. They dont though.

  • BUY AMERICAN!!!!! SNOW & NEALLEY MAKES FINE AXES!!!!!!! There are several others Council Tool, Estwing ,Barco, Collins. Ames, jesus screw the sweds.

  • @aborocz I have a Snow and Neally Penobscot Bay axe. They just don't make a mini like this, or I'd own one.-Critr'

  • Great video as usual! Keep'em coming

  • Great piece man!

Sure to do the trick, thanks for posting bro!

  • good stuff.

  • i love trap videos cheers critr ,

    malc

  • Very interesting trap design, thank you for sharing your knowledge.

  • I know this is a bushcraft trap or primitive trap but couldn't you put a modern twist on it and use metal rings and metal rods sharpened to a point for a more effective trap? What are your thoughts

  • @dkbonney1775 I don't think it would be more effective. Since the ring itself isn't really taking any weight or tension. But you could surely make this out of metal. I would probably use wire myself, for the needed flex.-Critr'

  • Great job, as usual.

  • Comment removed

  • Great job Mr. Davis as usual! I really appreciate the videos you and the rest of the Pathfinder crew are doing. You guys have really helped me relearn a lot of old stuff and taught me even more thats new to me. By the way not sure if you know it but the wind is really bad in this vid . lol ; )

  • its too windy lol jk

  • great video very good info

  • fascinating

  • thumbs up for macgyver theme!

  • the 2 people who disliked fell into theses traps

  • @TheUprisingNinja the other 2 where trapped and scalped

  • @TheUprisingNinja not funny or origonal. stp commenting on the dislike bar people -.-

  • @Wastelander0525 that may be hmm my 3rd time commenting on the dislike bar and apparently 10 people got some shits and giggles out of it so get out of here

  • Great trap and use of stove. Thanks for the tip. I like the part at the end, you could call your videos "Wandering Dog Productions".... keep it up.

  • nice

  • MacGuyver LOL!

  • Great work!

I have one of those mini hatchets, they're excellent!

  • Hey.. you're out in the woods... wind happens.. no worries. =D

interesting trap... have any persons accidentally stepped in one of those? Seems like a good way to turn an ankle. Do some states require some type of marker or something?

Great vid... thanks for all your hard work. =D

  • @markshmily This trap is more than likely completely illegal in most states. But in a "survival" situation......-Critr'

  • great video

  • Windy and lots of noise!! ;-)

  • Very good, always enjoy learning some thing new. Thanks.

  • Good stuff. Probably could have been edited down to 5 minutes or so, not a big deal. Sometimes I just wish these Pathfinder videos were a bit more condensed so I could watch more of them before work. =OÞ

  • @psynthpriest

    wanna learn?

  • @Dancerpro1 take out 2 minutes of sharpening sticks and 2 minutes of inserting each one, brings the video down a third of the time and I'm pretty sure that you are still going to learn how it's done off of one example of each step. If you need that much time to learn how to sharpen a stick there's probably no hope for you surviving anyway. Like I said, it's not a big deal, just a suggestion they may want to keep in mind for future video's.

  • @psynthpriest

You remind me of the people that bum cigarettes off people and bitch because the cigarette isn't their brand.

  • I know the Apache fought a goriilla war with with the U.S army I can imagine that trap being used against mounted calvery.

  • @crypter27

It was more oriented for deer and antelope. Very rarely -if not never- did these traps ever used on cavalry horses.

  • @OzaawaaMigiziNini

    *Ever get used

  • @OzaawaaMigiziNini interesting

  • @crypter27 A trap design very close to this was actually used against US troops. Accept it was made of sharpened bamboo shoots inflicting severe pain as the soldier stepped down on it and tried to pull his foot loose. In a place called.... Vietnam.

  • @wildwyckedknight That is true, but the one is a little different compares to the Vietcong traps..

  • great vid. thx

  • thank you for that vid. it was a very educating vid

  • awesome vid dude

  • for wind noise, put a band aid on the microphone, it helps.

  • @flamedrag18 As I said, it was in place.

  • @woodcrafter76 a wind screen for a camera? I've never heard of it being called that, just simply a band aid.
