Never really measured it. However due to the crazy amount of birds, squirrels, and raccoons I decided to remove it. I had to fill it every couple three to four days. I don't live near my property so it wasn't very effective for me. I now have 55 gallon feeders at all my hunting holes and they work great. Best part is that once filled I don't have to refill but every couple of months.
You have to remember that I have tons of squirrels and raccoons so the corn doesn't stay there long enough to mold. Also this is just one idea to minimize the effect of hogs especially on deer travel trails. It works for me.
Great stuff guys. The reason the hogs won't get it is because I make it high enough that they can't get it, trust me I have a crap load of hogs. You'll see about 10 to 20 come out to my feeders nightly. Either way the deer have an easier time getting to it because they are talker. As far as the raccoons, trust me I shoot them also but it seems that there is an endless supply of them as well, they just keep coming back. It's all good, just means I never have a dull hunting experience.
I guess you don't have many hogs down where your'e at or else they would clean that up way before the coons. You can hang it from a tree high enough and away from the tree trunk that way its harder for the coon but I know how pain in the ass the coons are. I usually get a semi auto 12 gauge with buckshots and a motion sensor light to let me know if anythings eating them. Killled 3 coons at once. Didn't see them afterwards.
That's a smart idea but why wont a hog get it ? Have you ever seen a hog eat ? The opening is large enough for it to stick its nose in it. Them hogs are stubborn. They will dig that shit up from the ground and eat the whole corn in a few hours --- faster than deers would.
Great question, nothing stops it except one thing, raccoons. Usually it doesn't last a week. Between birds, deer, & raccoons it doesn't last long enough to go bad. At least not for me.
I like it but the only issue I have is the raccoons. Those little buggers eat almost all of it. Hence they have now become a target for me every night. Got one last night but three others got away.
However this works good if you live near your property.

I failed to find a reply to the water question. That seems to me to be the biggest problem with this design.
