  • lol 8 channels on STE? overkill. i don't even understand how that's possible, i guess through the DMA channel? must be, I remember u could even play mod tracks through that thing. I prefer the chip and digidrums on their own personally.

  • @DeadBeatBlast It's much like the method for replaying 4 channels through the YM synthchip on the plain ST. The replay-routine for that takes up a fair bit of CPU as well, but the DMA soundchip doesn't slow the CPU at all. So all the processor power is available for mixing down 4 sets of 2 channels and dropping the result in memory for the soundchip to use. Even at 50khz, that's "only" 400,000 calculations/sec which the 68000 is easily capable of (as a roughly 1 MIPS chip).

  • @DeadBeatBlast plus i wouldn't be surprised if it uses some feature of the blitter, or the soundchip itself, further accelerating matters.

heck, even the amiga managed 8-channel with similar sound hardware, and it ran at 7/8ths of the speed :)

  • throw a 909 on top and you got a banger

  • Hella Fat and Crunchy... and the Monochrome screen is so sick.
