I doubt a game like this will ever be made again. The "Gears of War age" has made it pretty clear smaller squad-based combat is more popular that epic battles with thousands of troops. Hence why Dawn of War 2 has you controlling a force of 50 guys at most.

I never played Final Liberation, but with the scale reduction of Dawn of War games THQ or someone else needs to make an apoc/Epic scale game. Kind of like a Rome Total War, but in the 40k universe.

Don't see why, as both SSI and Holistic Design carried on for many years afterwards.

Final liberation is one of those game you desperately want remastered but fear that they'll just fuck it up and reduce the scale of the fighting via the "Oh our engine can only handle X amount of Y" horseshit.

I finally got this working under Windows 7 and have been playing it for a few hours straight now, totally addicting game. I was wondering though, do you get to play as/against other races later on? The codex has icons for Eldar, Tyranids etc. but no unit info and they aren't selectable in quickmatches?

I think those are racks for displaying heretic's bodies, not stars of Chaos.  They were common in medival images of war, death, and plague, so they fit right in with WH40K.

I still have Final Liberation, Dark Omen, Space Hulk 1 and 2, Chaos Gate, Rites of War, Shadow of the Horned Rat and all the Dawn of War up to Dawn of War II !!!!! I even have an RTS called 7th Legion because it was a Warhammer type game (rip-off really!) !!!!!

i have got every one of those games and i believe if warhammer spent a bit of money vamping up the graphics and removing some of the bugs in them they would make a serious amount of cash as the storylines of shadow of the horned rat and dark omen are just fantastic

Eldar and Chaos did make it in one or two expansions, Nids I haven't heard anything. I don't know for sure but I think DoW is the first game to do Nids justice in a long time.
