An exquisite performance: full of nuance, pitch perfect delivery, and superb control. Every singer should watch this performance; many learn much from the inimitable Miss Peggy Lee!
This is a time when people could listen to music that actually had beautiful harmonies, chord changes, root motion, and you could hear the poetry of the lyric.. What the F has happened? Ok, sure there is some good stuff now, but imagine a TV show like this in 2010.. What has happened to the American ear for beauty?
"maybe" and "here." We are lucky that so very little of the clip is missing, since this is a rarity. As others have already said, this a brilliant, masterly performance. One of many is Peggy's book: watch also her youTube clips of "When the World Was Young, "Baubles, Bangles and Beads," "I Only Have Eyes for You," "Is That All There Is," "See See Rider," etc.
I have always had a thing on Peggy Lee's music and as a kid I remember a song about waiting for her man to get home, dinner at eight and the whole fifties thing. The ycertainly had class as mentioned earlier by someone and do I have to be an old fart to say that there is very little contemporary music I have heard that can ever measure up. to this
Yes, the title is "How DO You Erase A Memory?" and this song was co-written by Peggy herself. Sadly, you won't find the lyrics anywhere because it is a very rare lyric which she sang live but didn't record. Maybe if you go to Peggy Lee's website and ask somebody might know if a sheet music exists.
everytime i watch things like this,i have a huge yearning to have been there for those times....futile thought really...the present has its own wonders, but i do love the era...i have a great box set of jack kerouac collaborating with steve allen...you can see jack and steve doing'on the road' here on youtube. peggy is right inside this song.wonderful archive.
I love the tune she wrote "how can you erase a memory" even more than the medley which manages to express the whole palette of " hopes go to rust as your dreams turn to dust". Thanks for posting. She's is great.
This is one of the finest performances of Peggy Lee in her haydays. Nobody could come near her when performing like this. A treasure. I never understand why this is not availabe on DVD! Thanks for posting Richard
A masterpiece! Very emotional medley about love lost, forever missed. Smartly put together, supremely sung. Favorite part, 4:00-4:30, Peggy's range of facial emotion as she sings "when soft rain falls .... and drips from leaves, I hear him call me ..."
Is it even possible?

Does anyone have any idea what the missing words are?
"_____ I should have saved those leftover dreams" and "Funny that rainy day is ____"
Any suggestions would be much appreciated

The first song that Peggy sings by herself in this medley, is the title in fact "How Can You Erase A Memory"?
I've been looking for the lyrics, or perhaps a download of that song in particular. But I can't find it anywhere!
Can anyone help me out?

If ever a singer immersed herself in lyrics and shared them with her audience, it was Peggy and she's at her peak here. Thanks for posting.
