Just because a character "says" they can only be killed by something doesn't mean they are automatically invulnerable to everything, that's like saying Sephiroth is the most unstoppable villain ever just because Cloud's motley crew had a hard time chasing him and he's the fan candy of FF7 - he can be killed, there are forces greater than him if you look hard enough.
To be completely honest, I love both of these character to death, but if it came right down to a no holding back, full fight to the death then Vash would be severely injured but Spike would be killed.
well in a fist fight spike would kick vashs ass but in a gun fight it would be pretty tough and for all the people who say vash would fire off the angel arm look where there fighting in a city and if vash blew everything up it would make him sad cos he killed another 343127523526 people :/

True, the animation and such in Cowboy Bebop is just beautiful, but Trigun had a much better story in my opinion and Vash is somewhat a little more likable the Spike. Plus I agree with rockleebroccoli01, Vash won't never kill anyone. If you would like a suggestion, maybe take some clips from when Vash faced Legato to put Vash more in character in this video. Sorry, I'm an anime critic so I just notice these things. ^_^
