@scottadegregoris Going through the comments a year later and I see this. protip: Youtube top rated comments are seemingly random. Also, I had nothing to do with the making of this video. I just uploaded it.
I am from Sarnia Ontario and I love Detroit used to do sooo much there Tigers games at the old Tigers Stadium, shows at I-rock Harpos or Pine Knob, going to Belle Isle, taking in Les Miserables downtown at the Fox theatre, going to Cobo for the International Auto Show this city is exciting fun and the people really make it something special, I may be biased but I think Detroit is a wonderful place and I don't care what anyone thinks I will stand beside Detroit. GO TIGERS GO!!!!!
All I know is that I've lived near Detroit all my life, and I dare any white person to drive through the neighborhoods of Detroit at night that aren't close to downtown. Don't cry to me when you get fucking murdered. A couple months ago they had something like 17 murders in one weekend. Go there and rebuild the city, and make it great if you dare, but right now...it's still a piece of shit and you will be murdered if you go there.
Right wingers will be tempted to blame liberalism but there are plenty of liberal American cities like Santa Cruz, California and countries like the Netherlands that are nothing like Detroit and are very prosperous. Detroit failed because the people who lived there were just too self-destructive and they ruined the city. Canada is a very liberal country and is doing just fine, Canada isn't broke unlike America. But Canadians aren't super self-destructive like a lot of people from Detroit were.
@Satchel334 It has nothing to do with liberalism. It has to do with the fact Detroit is 85% black. Haiti, South Africa, Detroit...wherever blacks go in mass, they destroy it.
Hey, people of Detroit ! We don't all think that all of your city is broken and run-down. We love the parts that are beautiful AND derelict - me - I think the Grand Central Station is the most magnificent building in the world, whatever state it's in. We judge you on what you've given the world with all the great musicians and working class pride, and we're cheering you on to redefine and rethink and renew your city. What happens first in Detroit happens everywhere. Show us post-industrial life!
"in this city, people work together" - that is not true at all.. and this guy at 5:26 just came here so he would have no competition from any "actual" good businesses.. the leaders are milking the city for all it's barely worth, and then lie to the media about how they're trying to help. people there give up too easily, and their education system is a huge disaster. if people gave a damn it might have a chance, but nobody is willing to step up and actually care.
I was Homeless in Detroit foe about 5 years until i freed myself from the bondage of Heroin I can say that the people of detroit are some of the most caring people i have ever experienced people who have nothing giving everything. Keep Detroit Alive
White pop. refused to live alongside .Af. Am. From the south they were unfairly treated and subjected to substandard living conditions in the worst parts of the city..not to mention education conditions. As Blk numbers increased, whites left and started a hate campaign against the city i.e. "The last person to leave Detroit turn off the lights". the tax base eroded and thus we have Det. today. Racism polarized the entire area. A place saturated with racism from the south still today. SAD!
detroit will never be a thriving city like new york or chicago in our lifetime, a bunch of hipsters going to detroit to make 'art' and throw raves isnt going to bring the city back. the majority of detroit is a decaying city, and abandoned mess. everyone trying to sell this 'revival' is mad that the media only shows the negative of the city, well thats the reality of the situation. these people are delusional, time to wake up. if they really want to help, focus on job creation and education.
Sure very few big businesses choose Detriot but smaller, fledgling businesses and mom & pop type ones like Detroit due to it's small market, open locations, and low competition for consumers.
It also had a decent educational system that you can properly compare to any midwestern town in the U.S.
@MarissMariss Detroit once was "a thriving city like new york or chicago", or something similar. Been there done that. Detroit is something else now, perhaps it will never be a megaopolis, but is that a bad thing? The most interesting people I know have lived hard, been to hell and back, scarred and bruised, and now aged, mellow and wise. That's called character. Why can't a city be like that? So don't be so obtuse and short-sighted Mariss*2. There are enough people in America thinking that way.
Cake sent me. Super proud of the spirit Detroit feels. Fuck the joke ad for cleveland "at least we're not detroit" you guys lost a lot of your money, but at least your rivers don't catch on FIRE!
You watch this utterly transfixed by the soul and the beauty of Detroit but feeling somehow that everyone in this video is a phony and an asshole and doubting yourself for it but then at 9:38 these swine are shown spraying poison on the wild plants. God what a relief.
I believe the point is that there are 700k+ people now living in Detroit and they're all poor - almost entirely black - some are hispanic - very few are white. Despite all the youthful enthusiasm and "can-do spirit", the recent census reveals that the hipster-fication of Detroit is statistically insignificant - more like a small number of tourists making a lot of noise on the interwebs.
The guy at 2:40 is an asshole himself, I am a Dutch person and I have nothing against Detroit, and infact am greatly interested in the architecture. If people get treated like this no wonder you are gonna scare off people.
A couple facts for you are that KLM Holland's main commercial jet company had it's US hub in Detroit airport, is now SkyTeam. Also Dutch DJ made a song aobut Detroit that is anything but negative: /watch?v=SYs2HHYqmxw
And whats wrong with tourists that like ruined buildings?
@dailylegend It's not about that. It's about taking pictures/film of said buildings then publishing it in media saying "OH LOOK HOW SHITTY DETROIT IS"
@jayjayjames2332 actually it is not about showing how shitty detroit is. it is not much about detroit at all. for a foreigner it is much more about seeing the american dream in such an apocalyptic stage. the tourists who come to take their pictures dont give a fuck whether the citiy is detroit, chicago or new york. what we see is the prototype of many western industrial cities that are dealing with dwindling industries. detroit is a lookout, a chance to learn how turn ruins into gardens.
@jayjayjames2332 yea but he's saying it in a way as if only dutch people are doing that. as if the people making pictures of detroit abandoned places and spaces are dutch people, cmon. you don't hear us saying "all these fuckin yanks wanna come over here to amsterdam and they only want to smoke weed and look at the red light district, dude"
@dailylegend talk about over reaction. He was talking about the journalists. It's getting a bit redundant and old with any journalist from anywhere taking pics of the abandoned areas. It makes detroit look like crap to the rest of the world when it really isn't.
@dailylegend Man, he isn't really even shitting on the Dutch, he is saying that tourists come and trash Detroit in the tourist rags and in the AAA guides. It's more than an empty town. It's Motown, it's Motor City... It's a great urban sprawl... It's a great city.
@dailylegend how would you feel if foreigners came to your city in which you were born and raised so they can take pictures and marvel at its decay and ruin and slow destruction? Thousands of peoples' hometown is declining from one of the greatest American cities to a deserted wasteland and foreign people are coming to look at it like a tourist attraction, amused and entertained by the heartbreaking fall of their great city.
As a proud Detroiter, these type of shows bring out so many emotions. You are happy to see good things happen, but you are so angry when you see the decay that has been going on in this city for 45 years. Its the poster child for urban decay, segregation, and economic policies that have failed the low-middle class. We are so quick to send money to other countries when disaster hits, yet in many of our major cities, you see areas that look worse. This is an American problem, not just Detroit!
If a bunch of mostly white hipsters with a frontier mentality and can-do spirit choose to assist in the rebuilding of Detroit into a city that matches their vision, what is the problem? Why would you choose bash this? I salute people making their city a better place instead of just belly-aching.
the bottom line is the whole country is going to hell, the jobs have been outsourced for slave labor, thanks to both parties nafta and gatt have killed this country, this is a debtor nation, from school to cars to homes, the banksters make a killing keeping us slaves to debt, all by design, both parties are to blame, and then you have the politicians keeping the workless class slaves to their masters, nothing in life is free, and at the same time we give billions to other countries like israel
was born in detroit, currently living in germany. but I will return and help build it back up because every fate can be changed if you try. and I for my part know that I will try.
To everyone verbally bashing this amazing movement in Detroit, shame on you. It's obvious that you're not from the Detroit metropolitan area or you would realize that it has a staggering number of people who want to see it transform into something beautiful and sustainable for everyone in it. Also, I had no idea that it was such a terrible thing for white people to help in a predominately black neighborhood. If you're truly interested in helping, look up the Detroit Agriculture Network :)
When I leave Detroit, I tear up defending her to fatalists who think their cheap shots are keen and worldly. When I'm home, I get fighting mad at purists who would let Detroit disintegrate rather than sully their precious ideologies.
And yet, I always come back to this crazy, friendly, soulful place that made me. Scott's Detroit too. That's my town - and I wouldn't want her any other way.
Ha. I wonder if i know you. Regardless, I've got friends who think like you & are equally bemusing. Before you start lecturing: I'm a proud DPS grad; went on to major in Urban Studies, so i've read plenty Sugrue. i've seen hippies, hipsters & hucksters come and go from my hometown. [Let me know if that's not enough cred] You need to chill, dude. Why stop people from bringing $ to a hurting community? Revel in your academic horsehair shirt, but let Detroiters get that TaX Ba$e!
I've always loved Detroit. I saw this some time ago on the actual website. Detroit needs to undergo a political change before it can improve. Unfortunately the Black Democratic stranglehold has nearly killed the city centre. It has so much potential, so much beauty, and such stunning suburbs with astounding wealth and cultural institutions.
Maybe you could speak to Mr. Berry Gordy about that? Or Mr Tyne Reddick (Ran many free schools and non profit outfits back in the day). Or any black Ford/GMC employee who took his or her huge pension and got the hell out of Dodge?
Did Motown HAVE to move to the West Coast? Was there NO ONE to step up and take Mr. Reddicks' place when he passed far too soon? Don't fault these young people coming just because others couldn't be bothered to stay.
I'm wondering why they don't give the true reason for Detroit being abandon. My family moved out during the race riots here in Detroit along with all the other middle class back in the 60s. It's unfortunate but true. During a welcome back parade for a black Vietnam vet police thought they were protesting and led to the police and national guard going into a small war. So people fled city. Not because of toeing car companies or because people had money to leave the city? That doesnt even make a
I think that the biggest outflux happened in the late 80's when almost everyone who retired from the plants retired with a huge pension because of the companies making good decisions with their pension money. Yes, many families left diuring the race riots, more left when certain jobs got outsourced but it took the 70's and early 80's for the Japanese to catch up in quality and decimate the US car industry.
I'd be interested to see the actual figures, though.
I didn't know that it was illegal or unethical for a certain type of people to move into any neighborhood in a city. But I guess the way you view it is this : poor or "oppressed" people can move into ANY neighborhood. It's their right and there can't be any opposition to the free movement of your beloved morally superior ghetto dwellers. On the other hand, the ghetto dwellers are entitled to keep their existing turf and to keep out those they deem unworthy.
lol. I suppose that the number of criminal acts and their nature just doesn't matter does it ? So hipsters shoot each other at the same rate as black inner city youth ? Oh yeah they probably do but the media doesn't talk about it, right ? They spoke of building bridges with your beloved ghetto dwellers. The ghetto dwellers will cleanse them out in time. Don't worry. your wish will come true. Soon enough
Isn't Mr Mongo benefiting from catering to those white kids. But i guess that doesn't matter.Since you explicitely stated that you supported the expulsion of the hipsters by any means, does this mean that you're ok with killing them off ? In any case, hose hipster idiots are building bridges linking their neighborhood to the ghettos. Crime will flood in and they will be cleansed out. Mr Mango's business will close and gegoris will be happy.
Let the youth do their thing, black, white, coffee coloured - so what. Being adhering to racial boundaries, by allowing racism to exist in your mind you give it the power to exist. Cut it out like a cancer. We're beyond it, it's a bore, it's over.
I may well be wrong, but it sounds to me like your stuck in a rut and polishing the groove. All the above cities where destroyed by warfare between groups of people who didn't get on, including socio-economic warfare as in the case of M/CR, very similar to the decline and inner city decay of Detroit, Manchester was the motor of the industrial revolution. It's now a vibrant city again, re-invented through inclusivity.
Hey Scotty, get over the black & white bullshit which just ties everybody down to stereotype. Live and let live, appreciate positive energy and engage yourself in the process. All I hear from you is the splutterings of some chump who's stuck in the glorification of a past that's been and gone. Take a look at Manchester, Berlin, Rotterdam - all fucked and reborn through the multiple actions of erstwhile nobodies. Get a life bud, your remedy coughs out bile like a sickness.
Let me jut say this, it is beneficial to all of us(even us weekend suburbanites) if the city starts to thrive again. When money comes into the city...it creates jobs for the people that live there, period. It creates an upward spiral, rather than the downward one we've become used to. We have to make the choice to be in this together or it's not going to get any better.
scottadegregoris, fuck off. They're trying to do SOMETHING, which is more than you can muster. Everyone is poor these days so take your race baiting bullshit and shove it up your ass.
GULAG America is coming up, better move where you can live from nature and you better do it fast. I guess your not super rich, cause they will most likely leave you to rot and move to one of their new super cities in dubai or asia. Well, when your taxmoney is financing outsourcing of production and downfall of production, you get this. Looks like soviet over there now.
Those outside of Detroit will never know, they'll just keep believing their spoon fed news reel chosen for them by some out of touch corporate talking head. Stay in your little world then...The rest of us will enjoy DETROIT! Why do you think people from Detroit show so much pride in Detroit? because we REALLY know this city and what it's was, what it is and what its becoming.
Nothing ever, even if it were to come to a complete demise, will kill my love of the Motor City. After the apocalypse I truly believe that the only place on earth that I would want to be is in Motown because when shit falls down you can't break a city like Detroit. Europe has it's history in it's architecture, our history resides in every automobile and song that rolled out of this great city.
@jester3joker8 well let's be real though...it's still a pretty tough city. Harpos is in the middle of one of the toughest neighborhoods in the USA. Still, it's fitting and you gotta love the city. It saddens me that now the population is less then 800,000.
@jester3joker8 Why do you think ever since the riots the City's population keeps decreasing? Because Detroit is a shit hole and people are abandoning ship? You think a bunch of hipsters are going to fix the corrupt government? Out of control crime rate? Widespread unemployment? Failed education system? Crumbling infrastructure?
I grew up in Detroit and I'm glad I made it out of that hell hole. A hippie chick who likes to paint in warehouses isn't going to do jack shit for the city. Ignorance..
@tool482002 Ok naive idiot. How are you going to go about bringing jobs and too a city of 900,000 people with one of the highest unemployment rates in the country. If you can't figure out how to do that and somehow reduce one of the highest crime rates in the country, all of the hippy coffee shops and skate parks in the world aren't going to be able to do a thing.
Actually you are wrong, detroit could become a hippy central, free drugs and smokeshops wilth chillout lounges everywhere. People could take LSD and go on guided transcedental voyages, detroit could be saved by becoming a city of love. A beacon for all the worlds hipsters.
Might not be able to get it done politicaly, but it would definitly saved the city. Not a stupid idea.
@avrokneksok Who's going to buy the smoke when no one has jobs? Plus if you a few businesses start to thrive then you're going to have to worry about being jacked.
That's easy, the world is full of upperclass people that thinks it's fun to smoke and go on transcedental trips. There are just not many places they can do it legally, holland, kristiania (not really legal). You could make detroit the "disneyworld" of pot and psychadelic voyages, live on tourism as well as you preserve the buildings that are there. Once it is started, the city will have trouble keeoing the tourists away.
And yeah that's the main problem with Detroit now and the state of Michigan itself. Michigan needs jobs.Kids will eventually grow up and get jobs but they won't be in Detroit. It's less of a city revival and more of how one can survive and thrive in the ghostly metropolis that is Detroit.
BUT i do see the stupidity and pretentiousness in a lot of white hipsters...they think they will change Detroit, and kudos to them for planting gardens, but you know if they see a black man walking down the street toward them, they're gonna pick up the pace.
@peechyq Yeah like a couple of coffee shops and a skate park are going to revive a major metropolitan city. Part of me wants these ignorant liberal fucks to get their asses jumped just to bring them back down to reality.
i just moved to Knoxville a few weeks ago. I was born and raised in Michigan and lived just outside of Detroit. I moved out to 14th and Bagley over by the train station for a summer; my car was stolen after 2 weeks being there, friends were robbed, but If i wanted mexican food i could walk to get it, if i wanted irish, same thing. Detroit is scary, run down, & not much is happening there, but i do miss it. it's equal parts frightening and beautiful.
Happy to see they are fixing up Detroit. I live in Redford, right near Detroit. I go downtown to see concerts a lot. I am going to see the Red Wings next month. Its also fun to go downtown to the bars and to MexicaTown. Detroit might just be coming back.
Proud of my city Detroit,Detroit is an awesome & fun place to be & there's so much culture music & art & opportunity for all to succeed & we are going green in a big way.Its really about the people.
@loungelizard5000 You're vampires feeding off the pathos of a depressed city in order to validate your identities + protect your egos. You lack a real struggle. So, in order to validate yourselves as passionate and creative people, you invade somebody's ghetto.
There is an alternative to interloping on someone else's town - fix your own! There are really passionate people involved with solutions for OUR OWN TOWNS that appeal to more than just self-obsessed transient art school dropouts.
@loungelizard5000 You people are a lot more like those "Dutch assholes" then you realize. You're cultural tourists on a reeeeeally long vacation from reality. What do you think the odds are of the average 18-25 year old white person who comes to Detroit to "make a difference" is still gonna be there at 31 or 32 when they decide they need do something with their lives and they realize that inner-city Detroit is no place to raise children?
@loungelizard5000 You do reveal a lot about the boring suburban identity you're running away from.
Just admit that you all are there to enjoy your extended adolescence in a vacant ghosttown playground created when real hard-working responsible adults moved-out. You aren't there to study taxes or infrastructure or emergency services or jobs creation - ya know... "boring" adult stuff. Like the video shows, you're there to build fucking skate parks,"be creative" and be a part of the scene.
@loungelizard5000 Yeah, you're just a fount of positive vibes, man. You're really radiating it here. And those chain restaurant brands you mentioned as some kind of insult... those aint me, bro... that may be your reality, but it aint mine. You don't even know me. That "gnarly" DIY ghetto you and your pals have adopted has clearly fucked with your head. Must be something in the water.
"Fuck you, and your negativity"? More hipster irony?
A fine documentary about hipsters "slumming it" in their 20's. How many of these carpet-bagging, gentrifying, self-hating suburban children do you think would actually RAISE THEIR CHILDREN in inner-city Detroit and send them to Detroit public schools?
Detroit: It's a great place for well-off "socially conscious" white kids to spend the years between college and "real life". One of them even has an Asian girlfriend. I think among the cool kids you get double the hipster credibility for that.
@3R3P3R3 No one here is "slumming it". They're just going where the action is. If you're a nerdy square who thinks the only place to go is Applebees in Canton or Rochester Hills, that's fine. But you're missing out on a lot of great music and art and creativity and cool people with open minds. And most certainly, NO ONE here is "self-hating". Except maybe you, ya unjustifiably arrogant douche. And it's not just "hipsters". I'm 42, fat and married, but go to Slow's, The majestic, Fishbones...
@3R3P3R3 Roma's, Small Plates etc. etc. for great food and music and atmosphere. I love a lot of this city and try to enjoy the positives. Little crybaby haters that need their diaper changed can sit in Applebees and McDonalds all their lives and hate and hate till they die, but what kind of life is that? Fuck you, and your negativity. There's a lot more REAL things to hate on, than some people trying to be positive and help nurture some creativity and sense of community. Ya crybaby loser.
You can show pictures of abandoned buildings to make it seem like the city's destroyed, but you can also show pictures of small businesses opening to show the city's growing. What's the truth?
@lespaulgtars Just like EVERY major US city, there are parts that are run down, but parts that are doing fine.
I bet if I spent a week in LA, I could make a documentary about the city being destroyed... And I'm sure I could convince every idiot in the world that's all there is to LA... Why? Because you have to see things with your own eyes otherwise you'll be blinded by the lies sold on the news.
Point in case, people still think 911 was about religion... bullshit via CNN
I'm Starting To Feel Like Whites Are Coming Into Detroit To Monopolize Off Of 'Detroit', While Totally Ignoring & Leaving It's Reality In The Dust. You Know, Sorta Like How They Always Do? But Should It Matter, Detroit Is On The ComeUp Now, Right? Question Is: Who's Going To Tell OUR Story? ('Confessions Of A REAL Detroiter')
Um, how about you go to YouTube/WhiteWoodEnt and check what we're doing. Also, I'm currently donating money and contributing physical efforts in the Detroit Blight Busters, an organization geared to revitalizing Detroit. I does it.
I love my city. This documentary really sums up what its like now. If you ask me, the empty streets are actually pretty nice. You can do whatever, like skate, and no one cares. I think D'mango summed it up pretty well: they left, we filled in, they're back and maybe this can work now. Racial team work can really help.
Yay! Detroit is sort of okay and cool (especially cuz its gnarly) for whitey hipster kids with B.A's, who get to act out their pretenses there ( yeah, Detroit needs a "performance space"..). but where are jobs going to come from?
Come on. Detroit is a disaster. And, yes, you might get killed there and no, it's no place to raise a family. R.I.P, Detroit.
Fuck liberals, this is what happens when you put democrats in charge...

Sure very few big businesses choose Detriot but smaller, fledgling businesses and mom & pop type ones like Detroit due to it's small market, open locations, and low competition for consumers.
It also had a decent educational system that you can properly compare to any midwestern town in the U.S.
MultiMasterflash 9 months ago
@MarissMariss Detroit once was "a thriving city like new york or chicago", or something similar. Been there done that. Detroit is something else now, perhaps it will never be a megaopolis, but is that a bad thing? The most interesting people I know have lived hard, been to hell and back, scarred and bruised, and now aged, mellow and wise. That's called character. Why can't a city be like that? So don't be so obtuse and short-sighted Mariss*2. There are enough people in America thinking that way.

And whats wrong with tourists that like ruined buildings?
dailylegend 11 months ago
@dailylegend It's not about that. It's about taking pictures/film of said buildings then publishing it in media saying "OH LOOK HOW SHITTY DETROIT IS"
jayjayjames2332 11 months ago 15
@jayjayjames2332 actually it is not about showing how shitty detroit is. it is not much about detroit at all. for a foreigner it is much more about seeing the american dream in such an apocalyptic stage. the tourists who come to take their pictures dont give a fuck whether the citiy is detroit, chicago or new york. what we see is the prototype of many western industrial cities that are dealing with dwindling industries. detroit is a lookout, a chance to learn how turn ruins into gardens.
toatatoa 11 months ago
@jayjayjames2332 yea but he's saying it in a way as if only dutch people are doing that. as if the people making pictures of detroit abandoned places and spaces are dutch people, cmon. you don't hear us saying "all these fuckin yanks wanna come over here to amsterdam and they only want to smoke weed and look at the red light district, dude"

As a proud Detroiter, these type of shows bring out so many emotions. You are happy to see good things happen, but you are so angry when you see the decay that has been going on in this city for 45 years. Its the poster child for urban decay, segregation, and economic policies that have failed the low-middle class. We are so quick to send money to other countries when disaster hits, yet in many of our major cities, you see areas that look worse. This is an American problem, not just Detroit!
avotus55 11 months ago

It's obvious that you're not from the Detroit metropolitan area or you would realize that it has a staggering number of people who want to see it transform into something beautiful and sustainable for everyone in it. Also, I had no idea that it was such a terrible thing for white people to help in a predominately black neighborhood. If you're truly interested in helping, look up the Detroit Agriculture Network :)

I've always loved Detroit. I saw this some time ago on the actual website. Detroit needs to undergo a political change before it can improve.
Don't fault these young people coming just because others couldn't be bothered to stay.

victrolarepairman 1 year ago
@victrolarepairman

63AndyW 1 year ago
Let me jut say this, it is beneficial to all of us(even us weekend suburbanites) if the city starts to thrive again. When money comes into the city...it creates jobs for the people that live there, period. It creates an upward spiral, rather than the downward one we've become used to. We have to make the choice to be in this together or it's not going to get any better.

Props to Knoxville for backing this, too.
lesterclaypool1 1 year ago
@jester3joker8 well let's be real though...it's still a pretty tough city. Harpos is in the middle of one of the toughest neighborhoods in the USA. Still, it's fitting and you gotta love the city. It saddens me that now the population is less then 800,000.
fishdirt 11 months ago
@jester3joker8 Why do you think ever since the riots the City's population keeps decreasing? Because Detroit is a shit hole and people are abandoning ship? Actually you are wrong, detroit could become a hippy central, free drugs and smokeshops wilth chillout lounges everywhere. People could take LSD and go on guided transcedental voyages, detroit could be saved by becoming a city of love. A beacon for all the worlds hipsters.
Might not be able to get it done politicaly, but it would definitly saved the city. Not a stupid idea.

That's easy, the world is full of upperclass people that thinks it's fun to smoke and go on transcedental trips. There are just not many places they can do it legally, holland, kristiania (not really legal). Once it is started, the city will have trouble keeoing the tourists away.

There is an alternative to interloping on someone else's town - fix your own! There are really passionate people involved with solutions for OUR OWN TOWNS that appeal to more than just self-obsessed transient art school dropouts.

I'm from Detroit and remember the wild 60s and 70s. It has it's own character, for sure.
