  • I like Irrlitch Engine

  • I do too but I don't understand why you posted that under my video.

  • I'm impressed! You're moving into my realm now! LOL. We're are going to have to talk open gl sometime :)

  • Sure, anytime. I just got back from out of town and am back to working on it. I've been seriously lax on my programming but my next version is coming along decently. Expect an update with some new features soon.

  • OpenGL is a thing of the past man. DX10 is where its at, if you've got the system for it that is...

  • Well, the problem with DX10 is the limitations on it. Sure it's great when it does work but I'm not about to leave out every operating system except Vista and Win7 when it comes out.

  • OpenGL may not be used that frequently on Windows, but it's the only option for portable 3D graphics.

  • or if you wanna make a multiplatform game for mac and linux, directx is kinda out of the question.

  • Those aren't randomly generated textures are they? My friends and I were trying to do that, but failed miserably :(

  • They are somewhat but they were made using photoshop, it's only two textures applied.

Later I'm debating on using a splatting technique or some others to get more detail without using more memory.

  • Very cool demo. Good work...

  • I just wanted to thank everyone for the pageviews and comments. I'm still working on the next version which shows a lot more of the features the engine already has, unfortunately a series of computer problems have delayed it's release but it is indeed in the works.

  • whow awesome ....where did ya lern to programm such things.... im in 11th class (end of it) and im stil on dos programming -.-

  • I learned everything I know from books and the internet, I actually started on my first 3d engine in the middle of highschool and this is just like the... fourth remake or so. If you need a hand finding documents or getting started on 3d just ask.

  • you are holy... but can you tell me how much knowledge i must have to start with 2d grafiks?

  • I would say try starting with something like "game maker" now YoYo games. It lets you understand a little more of what is going on and make basic games without needed to know the math. Once you figure that out move on to something like Allegro or OpenGL probably.

  • im a pro in rpg maker xp/vx

and mi good in 2000 and 2003 ^^ so i worked very much with game makers ;)

  • I just finished grade 11 too. The best advice I can give you is never let your schooling interfere with your education. GyroVorbis has already posted some resources you can use in his videos.

  • not bad

  • (O.O) That's awesome

  • Nice :D

  • Nice one. "a static mesh that updates based on distance" What do you mean by that exactly?

  • Actually the single piece of terrain (1024x1024) is divided into 1024 32x32 sections. Each one is then compiled into a display list. If they get far enough from the camera they are deleted and recompiled at half resolution (skipping every other vertex), then one fourth, one eighth, etc.

I'll have to change this to a vertex array and interpolate between resolutions so they don't pop from one to the other.

  • Ah, so it's an LOD type thing. Cool. I see what you meant now. I was kinda thinking "doesn't everything update based on distance?"

  • walrus

  • phalus
