  • anyone got tabs for that flamenco scale at 0:15? please!!!!!!

  • How wonder OBAMA went after GIBSON GUITARS, GE loans money to TAYLOR guitars. OBAMA & his administration are a bunch of corporate government NAZIs.

  • Who is the guitarist playing in this ad?

  • meh, jose feliciano's better

  • Good commercial. Taylor rocks.

  • I have a Taylor & I give them a 'Thumbs Up'. I've had various credit accounts thru' GE Capital & I give them a huge 'Thumbs Down'!

  • I dont think is lame, i think is unexpected and creative

  • i think thats the jason mraz signature guitar

  • Hahaha I met the real guitar player that plays the music in this comercial at NAMM on friday :D

  • I wish i can play like that.

  • I never said I had a conservative view, ispeaksub did. Nor did I say that it's hard for you to call it "subjective". Again, I was talking to ispeaksub.

Discordant noise may evoke an emotion, but that doesn't make it music. The sound of water evokes an emotion, but it's not music. It's noise. It's people like you that defend someone taking a dump on a canvas, hanging it up and selling it for 5k. It's people like me that say "Dude, someone shat on your wall."

It's an opinion. It's also right.

  • What the hell is that crap at 0:16 in the video? That's not music, it's irritating noise. The only commercials worse than this one right now are those Cisco Ellen Page ads where time-zones don't exist and kids randomly blurt out that they're going to China.

  • @PodMonkeyCWC i hope ur being sarcastic cuz most people cud never play a lick like that on an accoustic

  • @PodMonkeyCWC Please, show us you can do better. I'm out of anti-depressants and I need a chuckle.

  • @ispeaksub It doesn't take a master chef to tell you that food tastes like shit. All it takes is someone whose tongue works. Being difficult to do doesn't make it enjoyable to listen to.

  • @PodMonkeyCWC Matter of opinion.

  • @ispeaksub Actually, no. In order to be music, there must be some melodic and harmonic tone to the sound, as well as rhythm. After the first descending scale that she plays, the sound is nothing more than a cacophony of static with no key, no rhythm, no actual musical quality until she once again slaps the guitar. Hence it is not music, but irritating noise.

If you get off on listening to irritating noise that's fine. But don't call it music, and don't claim that it's great because it's hard.

  • @PodMonkeyCWC You are really stretching this.

  • @PodMonkeyCWC You have some sort of conservative grasp on the ideology of music. I don't care. I like what she played; I thought it interesting enough to look it up later. Guitarists and pianists and whatever do solos like this all the time. It's still considered music. Look up S-K or any punk group, they made music to their own liking, genre, and style. It's. A. Matter. Of. Opinion. Art. Is. Suggestive. Get. Over. It.

  • @ispeaksub Typing. Like. This. Doesn't. Make. You. More. Right. It. Just. Makes. You. Look. Like. An. Idiot.

It's not that I have a conservative outlook on music, or any art for that matter. But there is a fine line between artistic expression and meaningless static. A guy who puts a banana in the window of an art gallery is not creating art. He's trying to sell a banana for $25,000.

  • @ispeaksub Let's do an experiment. Go to 0:17 and click that part every second. Then go to any other part where she's playing and do the same.

Which one sounds like music and which one sounds like total crap?

And it's really hard to claim that art is subjective at the same time that you're telling me that I'm wrong in my interpretation of the art. Pianists may do this thing all the time, but does it take much to bang on the keys to make loud discordant noise? Would you pay to hear it?

  • @PodMonkeyCWC tHAT IS YOUR OPINION. You have the right to be Snarkey all you want. I dont see anything resembling conservative thought nor conservative critique. Conservative would be founded in a principled approach or method. Discordant noise in the proper context may share an intended emotion. It is not hard for me to claim Art is subjective. It is very very easy. However, no matter how hard one trys to sell me Growl err Death Metal I dont like it.

  • @Samshile Meow.

  • @PodMonkeyCWC Then according to your definition, the theme to "2001", John Coltrane's "Psalm" from "Love Supreme" and the final 30 seconds of the Beatles' "A Day in the Life" are not music, either? I'm glad that's only your definition and not reality. There is not an objective truth to music, like there is to moral teaching. Music is in the ear of the beholder. You behold what you believe is music, and you have the right. So does everyone else to their right of understanding what music is.

  • @marquettefootball 2001's theme, and Psalm have both melody, harmony and rhythm, so do fit the definition of music. But that one bit of "A Day in the Life" sounds more like they started turning the record in the opposite direction. However, there are discernible notes and rhythm, so it qualifies. There is a definition for music. It distinguishes it from plain sound. Audible art isn't always music.

    Please, learn the difference.

  • @PodMonkeyCWC The difference is in opinion. I will never tell you what you should believe "the" definition of music is, because of regardless of what Webster's says, there is no set definition of what music is. It's in your ear, your mind, and your heart. No one has the right to impose their own definition on anyone.

  • @marquettefootball Yes, there is a set definition to music. It's always been that way. Otherwise, by saying that all noise is music, you're saying that all music is simply noise. That's a slap in the face to every musician in history. No one is imposing their own definition on anyone. I'm simply stating what THE definition is. Music is very similar to a language, and they both have rules. Just because you can't make music doesn't mean you get to ignore what it is.

  • @PodMonkeyCWC I'm not saying all noise is music. It's not up to you or me to say what is music and what is not music, except to your own ears, mind and heart, and to my own ears, mind and heart. There is no "THE" definition, despite what Webster's says. I would think your comments about the music you heard on this video could be a slap in the face to Marija. That's up to her to say, not me. And just like the rules of languages evolve, so does music. No set absolute timeless definition.

  • @marquettefootball If you don't put a definition to music, then you're saying that all noise is music. You're right, it's not up to you or me to say what music is. It's up to the people who decide what music is, and there is a definition to it. Just because you don't believe in it doesn't make it not true. I don't care if Marija takes my comment as a slap to the face. That auditory abortion is nothing but static on 6 strings. If you're going to put it out there, be ready to have it cut off.

  • @marquettefootball And as for language, the language itself evolves, just as music evolved from drums and chants to blues and techno. However, the rules of language and the definition of language has remained the same, like music, since the dawn of language and music themselves.

  • @PodMonkeyCWC All you're describing is your preference of music. You prefer music with specific structure. That's cool. That's what you like. Others may prefer things with less structure, such as what you're hearing here. That's cool for them, too. That's what they like. Music is like chicken. Some prefer fried chicken, some prefer chicken cacciatore, some prefer chicken fajitas. All provide sustenance to the individual. I won't tell you what music is to you. Don't tell me.

  • @marquettefootball No, I'm not defining my preferences, I'm talking about what constitutes music vs. noise. It's possible to have music with little structure to it. However, it's not possible to have music with no structure to it. What I described in this video is not music, but noise. It's the equivalent of a cat running along the keys of a piano. Musical style is like types of chicken. But you can't hand someone turkey, say it's chicken and when they disagree say that it's just their opinion.

  • @PodMonkeyCWC Your an idiot. Please just shut up. You are just embarrassing yourself and you obviously wouldn't know music if it slapped you in the face.

  • @GLPCHB1960 Funny, since I seem to be the only person here that actually knows what music is. I'm not embarrassed at all, because I'm right. But, since you seem to think I'm wrong, why not explain it?

  • @PodMonkeyCWC Its obviously music. Listen from the beginning of the commercial, there is an obvious melody, rhythm, and harmony. When the commercial is focused on her playing it is simply her being virtuosic in which there is a still all of the things YOU say have to be for it to be music. Your obviously just ignorant to these matters. Have you heard of a time signature? Cause she still maintains a steady time. Plenty of rhythm. If this isn't music then every band who uses guitar solos must not

  • @GLPCHB1960 Sure, the first part and last part of what she's playing is music. I've never once disputed that. I'm talking about that ugly bit of static in the middle, right before she slaps the guitar. That is just noise, and that's all I've said.

Also, if you're too stupid to realize that the videos I've made are Chris-Chan, and not myself, then you really don't need to be participating in any conversation.

But tell me, what chord is that crap she's playing in the middle?

  • @PodMonkeyCWC Chord progression- Gmaj-F#maj-Fmaj-Bdim7 Its Flamenco style, which has been done for hundreds of years. If you listen to her strum you can pick out the sound of the chords. Its not noise. How can you argue a chord is noise especially when they provide a harmony rhythm and melody in this situation.

  • @GLPCHB1960 Ok, you got me. After subjecting myself to it for long enough, I can hear some chords in that shit.

It still sounds like static. Just because it has been done for hundreds of years doesn't make it good. After all, look at slavery, selling girls into marriage and blood-letting. Personally, I really like the first part of the strumming (even though everyone in the guitar shop acts like they've never heard a guitar being played). But that static in the middle is pure crap, hard or not.

  • @GLPCHB1960 Also, I am familiar with flamenco music as well as dance. I know she was playing in a flamenco style. However, strumming out that many notes in such a short time causes the notes to lose clarity and definition, which turns them from music to noise. Notice how unpopular flamenco music is outside of mexicans and spaniards? Perhaps that's why.

  • @PodMonkeyCWC Being a classical guitar player, flamenco is actually one of my favorite styles. There is also probably some audio issues. If you were to hear this in person it might be more clear. As far as it being noise to you thats just your opinion but its still music non-the-less.

  • @GLPCHB1960 know what music is? Also, you think she would know, seeing as she is a professional. You just post videos of your fat nerd self dancing to stupid songs so what would you know anyway. Your probably just being a devils advocate because you have nothing better to do.

  • @PodMonkeyCWC You're defining what you believe to be music to what you believe to be noise. It's not that cut and dry.

  • @marquettefootball No, I'm defining what IS music as opposed to what IS noise. Nothing about what I've stated is opinion. I really don't like the Beatles song that was mentioned earlier, but that doesn't mean it isn't music. It's just not music that I like. But refusing to accept that there is a difference between music and noise is more of a slap at every musician than anything I've said.

  • @PodMonkeyCWC Everything you've stated is opinion. And that's the beauty of music. It's in the ear of the beholder. Additionally, any drum or bongo solo with a rhythm to it will qualify for your other "requirement." I'm calling both our back-and-forth and this evening a night.

  • @marquettefootball Yes, drum solos do qualify as music. That's not an opinion, it's a fact. Nothing I've posted was opinion. It's all backed up by facts. Clear-cut fact. Music is not in the ear of the beholder. Pleasant sound is. I find the sound of waves crashing to be very pleasant, but it's noise, not music. Just because it's pleasing to the ear does not make it music.

  • @PodMonkeyCWC One, I just heard from you, when you said "you'd never hear from me again" after I answered your question. I'll overlook that. Secondly, that "ugly bit of static in the middle" is ugly to you. You don't believe it's music. That's your right. That's your opinion. It's music to others.

No hard feelings. I won't reduce myself to other's levels of calling you "stupid" etc...I have bigger priorities I must attend to than this discussion. I bid you good...no, great day.

  • @marquettefootball I said you'd never hear from me again if you could show me an example of music that has no rhythmic, melodic, or harmonic structure. You've yet to provide anything.

  • @marquettefootball Tell you what. You find me any bit of music that doesn't fit the definition of harmonic and melodic tones set to a rhythm and you'll never hear from me again. I'm sure you might be able to find it on Youtube.

  • The commercial leaves the viewer with the impression that she actually WAS playing, when she WASN'T. Her head was posted on to a pro player. For that, and for the way she says, "I didn't either," I give this ANNOYING COMMERCIAL a thumbs-down.

  • I like the way he quirks his eyebrow. That kind of expression is cool. There is a lady who quirks her eyebrow in a Swanson broth commercial, by the way, which I also enjoy. It is quirking fun.

    I quirkily enjoy those commercials.

  • what is the same of this song????????

  • @bbmax50

Not sure I understand your hurt feelings? Is it because...

    a) The double was not paid for her work - because she was.

    b) The double didn't get acknowledgement - she did. I never heard about a double arguing authenticity? It's their profession!

    c) Are you jealous that you weren't "the one"? Maybe you need to practice more, and stop shooting your mouth off.

    Boo-hoo

  • Great commercial! I break out one of my Taylors, start playing and people suddenly know of Taylor Guitars. Its a great little Flamenco blow and (as I see in some of the feedback) those Taylor employees in the commercial; ARE Taylor employees! I recognized Zach (long hair, glasses, on the right as one of the 2 awed by the demon) from his several visits here in VA & MD. Hey, he's tuned up my 610W, 814c and 914ce in the past. People, just enjoy the add consider a Taylor. You'll be glad you did!

  • Damn, she's good.

  • Marija Temo is the one actually playing the background music on her own Thomas Rodriguez guitar. She also plays the riff at the end on a Taylor guitar.

  • holy crap i must know the name of this song

  • She's a babe!!

  • What is the song?

  • Remember it is a commercial, so it is a fantasy to sell products.

Temo plays classical/flamenco guitars by luthier Thomas Rodriguez in Richmond, VA.... not Taylor guitars.

But the commercial made you pay attention!

  • What is the name of the piece of music in this commercial?

  • Hi, this is Deb Barker. There’s been a lot of curiosity about me and my body double in the GE Capital/Taylor commercial. Marija Temo is phenomenal Flamenco player, and she was delighted to help us by capturing your imagination in that awesome riff (same technology as Avatar used to transpose my head on her body). Marija and I are hearing the commercial has inspired people to play - What’s better than that? Please keep supporting the Music industry, they need you - Peace!

  • @gecapital

    Thank you both!

  • @gecapital - You're hot.

  • @gecapital thanks for clearing that up for me!

  • @gecapital yo deb i want tabs to that

  • @gecapital It certainly does inspire! That's some good technology! LOL!

  • @gecapital Well add to me to the list. I fell in love with the guitar after watching this commercial :D

  • this commertial was on after America's Got Talent!

  • hahaha i like this commercial. and taylor guitars are awesome

  • The person really playing the guitar in this commercial is Marija Temo, they photo shopped the other person's head into the video. Go to Marija's web site to find out.

  • Taylor shilling for a bank. What does that tell you?

  • Sorry boys.You're wrong.She DID play that.Watch closely.

  • I just wish I knew how to play guitar.

  • @ThePigfloyd

It's never too late to learn :)

  • @FLIGHTCOMPANY that was a nice comment. really, it was.

  • "I didn't know you could FAKE playing the guitar!"

    "I didn't eithah!"

  • @happy543210 Shes actually not faking it I thought so when I first saw it, and me and my guitar teacher studied it and she is really playing the first part that shows her playing and what shes doing is not that hard

  • @270Gmoney

Sorry dude. You and your teacher are WRONG. The camera was far enough and at the perfect angle to obscure the right hand fingering. Don't be so damn gullible.

  • Plus, I guarantee you that those workers are actually hand picked actors!!!

  • the scene has three cuts: The first is a wide angle shot, far away and obscuring the right hand fingers. The second is a middle distance shot with very simple chords, strumming and tapping of the sound board. The third is a close-up where the guitar is totally out of camera view. This is classic Hollywood fakery!!!!

  • @happy543210 Dude shut the fuck up im tired if reading ur crap u probalby dont know the first thing about acting or guitars

  • @xXOFAXx I know there's a bunch of dumb, brain dead idiots out there who'll believe anything they see on TV...you're obviously included!!!!!

  • @xXOFAXx By the way, go do your homework, you stupid 5th grader!!!!

  • @happy543210 Fuck you i aint no life who spends my time on youtube putting dumb shit on youtube thinking you know everything

  • @xXOFAXx

"i aint no life" What does that mean??? You might as well drop off from school. It doesn't look like it's doing you much good. I hear McDonald's is hiring.

  • @happy543210 Dont you mean "Drop Out" duh!!! and i probably have more education than u have ever had im on honor roll dude so talk shit now

  • @xXOFAXx

More like "dishonor" roll. Keep using that "ghetto" talk, you moron. By the way, can't you spend a fraction of a second more and type out the word "you", or are your fingers as inept as your brain?

  • @happy543210 Oh yea thats a good one, you FAIL at life

  • @xXOFAXx

In a world where people are awarded for just showing up to school, being on the honor roll doesn't mean much anymore, considering there's even a C honor roll.

  • @happy543210 Shes playing the C-major scale and the chords she plays are REAL...sorry dude

  • @270Gmoney

"There's a sucker born every minute!"

  • That was some nice Spanish guitar damn, Classical guitars the shit son

  • Bob was like WHAT!

  • Can she really play the guitar that well?

  • Can anyone please tell me what song was that >?? I would really appreciate it :)

  • I'm sorry to sound like a dork but Deb Barker is a beauty queen. I can't take my eyes off of her.

  • omgstoptakingnames; the actual guitarist is Marija Temo

  • @cantalesa how disappointing.

  • bad ass :P

  • Great punch line!

  • I know that I will get thumbs down, but I hate when she says 'I didn't either'.

    So lame.

  • @longsexylegs because she didn't really perform it

  • @longsexylegs

It looks like you were wrong about thumbs down. We AGREE.

I just would like to say that it isn't just LAME. It is intensely insulting to anyone who knows or is trying to learn how to play the guitar.

  • @longsexylegs Can't believe you wrote that. I was justing telling someone how much that bugs me! Lame indeed.

  • i just saw this commercial and i had to look it up right away, that girl was awesome! anyone know her name?

  • wow, that is sweet!

  • This is quite possibly my favourite commercial!

  • NS74ce? What a great ax...

  • what song?

  • "i didnt know you could play"

    "i didnt either"

    haha

  • Beautiful music, one of GE's best commercials ever!

  • That's a nice sounding classical guitar!

  • What a great commercial. It is so nice to see quality advertising.

  • OMG! Good music in a commercial! More, we want more!

  • nice!! very good video editing! And fantastic playing! Great job, Marija!

  • Great ad-campaign Deb. I'd think you may have missed your calling, but I know what a great job you do for GE Capital.

  • Nice Maria!

  • THAT'S CRAZY!!!! Marija Temo rocks!!!

  • Deb, you need to quit your job and move to Los Angeles. You're a natural born actress! xo Terry Brooks

  • Bob the ACTOR !! Nice!!
