"Personal protector" is the same thing as the "up back" and they are both accepted names for the position.

RyanSolis, the personal protector is the name of the position in the backfield. The personal protector does exactly what the name implies, protects the punter. In many punting formations, one player on the recieving team is designed to get through and picked up by the protector.
