All this nit-picking is disgusting. Compare the voices and talents to the over-hyped musical "stars" of today, pulling in $millions with their meager talents and mediocre voices and one can wonder why!
this is a mess. I know students coming out of this program - and they are great individuals and much of their show is amazing...but this recording is still a mess. Listen to the solo at 3:55 and you know this does not showcase the right strength in ranges for 3/4ths of the soloists. Then one realizes that it's 6minutes long so that they can breathe, but it's still 2 minutes+ of boring with 55 singers to distract us...
Regardless of whether you liked the ballad or not, no group has a perfect season with just average talent. Clearly this group was a force to be reckoned with. The soloists were picked not only by the director but the choreographer and actual arranger as well. For this to be the group's first competition and sound like this is nothing less than incredible.
Not that this group doesn't have talent, and I'm not saying the Iowan groups are better, this group may be better overall, i'm just sayin i have seen better ballads. Although the high soprano at the end is pretty amazing. All that being said, this is in the top 10 ballads ive seen. I don't think there can be a top group, cuz state by state, the choirs change drastically. Some have a lot of funding, some have none. Too much difference to pick the best. But this group is good No disrespect
No offense, but I don't see why the choir is regarded as the best vocally, I have heard and seen stronger groups vocally. Johnston Innovation, and a lot of other really underrated groups in Iowa. And again no offense, but it's not that hard to sing the crap out of Les Mis.
@HouseMD14 I saw them at Linn Mar in Cedar Rapids Iowa last weekend, I'm guessing it's because of their consistency. That was the the only difference I saw between them and the other groups I saw. They just didn't sound winded, probably partially due to the type of choreography they have. It's consistent throughout
AHHHHHH!!! holy fudge this is PERFECTION!! i personally love Les Mis, and this arrangement is incredible. i love how all the parts come together so you have to listen carefully to pick out individual songs. i would love to be in this choir!!!
Holy crap...I'm not personally not familiar with Les Miserables, but oh my God, this is amazing. Not only how the arrangement threads everything together so well, but how the choir is able to make each part, even just the parts at the end with just a few people singing that i had to listen closely for, sound so good...its hard to believe that this level of performance is from high school kids.
I'd kill to be in a show choir half this good, no lie.
i am familiar with les miserables and personally i dont really like it - but this is like the most PERFECT ballad ever written! i completely agree about the small parts especially - the little solos and tie in's to other songs - its SO well-written and frankly very clever.
i cant even BELIEVE i used to be in this choir - if only I could have been a part of such a good year!!!!! i feel unworthy now lol
Tied with Bishop Luers for best ballad ever. But Bishop Luer's parents have the sense not applaud while the choir is singing. Thank you T.G. parents for ruining the ballad again at Fame Chicago.
What's cool about this is that it's kind of like summarizing Les Mis in a beautiful and unique arrangement. You have pieces of very prominent songs and they interwieve very well together. And when the whole choir comes together both during and not during solos, it blows you away. It's like this came from the musical. Yes, it's high school kids, so I won't take it too far and say that they sound like they are on broadway, but honestly it is one of the best ballad's I've seen.

...really? i think you shoud've just continued I Dreamed A Dream for the rest of the ballad. One Day More...not a good option for a show choir ballad.

I love the idea of this ballad. and I love this choir. But there are way way WAY too many solos in my opinion. this video is almost six minutes long and the whole choir is singing for less than half of that (2 minutes and 50 seconds approximately). This is a great choir...i just wish they sang during more of their ballad.
thats what makes this ballad so unique! its not something you usually see - and it works so well. when all the soloists are singing at the same time is SO amazing!!!

Then you haven't seen Bishop Luer's ballad. I have seen them both live, and they are equal. And the Bishop Luer's parents have the sense not applaud while the choir is singing. Thank you T.G. parents for ruining the ballad again at Fame Chicago.
That is not only TG parents applauding while the choir is singing, it is many audience members from other schools...I have seen and heard many parents from other schools do this during TG's ballad.
this is amazing i go to bishop luers and people say that our ballads our tied for the best ballads of all time haha we cant put ours on youtube till after the season but this is great!
at the risk of sounding cocky, which is not my intent at all, i would have to agree that this video is not our best. this is from our first competition and while i think it sounds wonderful and the overall picture is beautiful, it has progressively gotten better as the competitions have come...just as any song/dance would improve with more practice :)
@YOURANiMMiGRANT2 I definitely agree with that. As the season has gone on for you guys, its ben amazing how much better the show has gotten! I would be very surprised if you lost at FAME Chicago if you perform anything like you have been!!
i completely agree. seeing it on youtube does NOT do it justice, but at the same time i KNOW you guys have only improved so much - someone needs to put up your show when you perform at fame chicago - THAT will probably blow everyone AWAY!!!!!

Maybe y'all don't intend to sound cocky, but do you realize that is the general impression your group gives to most in the show choir area (Midwest)??? Stuck up, conceited and cocky. What a shame.
