  • Linux did Not make firefox. Mozilla did Linux is merely an OS not a web browser developer.

  • Actually Opera was the first browser to have tabs, buy who knows maybe IE wouldn't have had them if Firefox also picked it up :)

  • Your a fuckwit.

Go read wikipedia and stop being so scrub.

  • Linux never made Firefox. Firefox is an open source web browser from what I am aware of.

  • @Inukendo101 agreed. Mozilla made firefox and has nothing to do with Linux other than it's open source.

  • Nice video fellow Linux Brothern :)

Well I assume you are using Linux,

  • @Bayonetta4 and who do you think they care what you say or think gay fucking stupid

  • Mac OS has >> Front Row

Linux has >> Elisa Media Center

  • DAMN YOU ARE A FAT GAY NERD

  • Mac has "Time Machine"

    Linux has "Back in Time"

  • Long Live Longhorn!!

  • ...

  • I like how you put it on how Windows became Dominant because businesses was looking for a computer to handle their needs at that time and Apple didnt have any applications for there computer that they had launched at that time. So businesses went with the IBM/Microsoft Platform. And yes Apple was dominant in the beginning.

  • hi is really nice what you are talking about! I agree!!!

  • Great video!, agree with you.

  • I like everything you have to say.

  • bsd first came out of university of california

  • ¡Great, hit them where it hurts!

In México we have Hp dumb sellers that think that Linux is a company, and every time you have to change the antivirus you have to buy a "new" Linux license to guess who "Linux enterprises" jajaja.

    ¡Long live to the penguin!

  • i am pretty sure ms has done the same thing with Itunes

  • ah....biggest linux nerd ever

  • hi Every time I watch one of your videos about Linux I Learn a lot. Furthermore I've installed Krusader with my Flux box Linux mint. And I noticed I'm able to tweek some things using Krusader much easier than with the Terminal. O.k yes Fire fox is a Great browser and your right a lot internet coffee shops only allow fire fox.and Not Internet Explorer However they do allow other Open source browsers like Ice Weasel and opera: Thanks for all your Linux Knowledge

  • Opera's closed-source.

  • thanks for the correct information about opera

  • yeah, you are right about a lot of things in your video more then tehcomputerman it seems.

  • A good example of standards v proprietary lock in is ODF v OOXML (M$ now calls it OpenXML).

The goal of Open Document Format (ODF) (ratified by the ISO in 2006 as an international standard) was a completely open transparent standard document format which anyone could freely implement and use. So no matter what office software you use, everyone can be fully compatible.

Compare to OOXML. M$ corrupted the ISO and bought a "standard" which no one can properly and fully implement but M$ themselves.

  • Microsoft has all kinds of trouble even implementing their own standards.

  • You are confusing standards with applications and proprietary formats which corporations use to lock people into their own software.

Standards are not bad, and GNU/Linux adheres to standards as does a lot of FOSS. If GNU/Linux doesn't use standards then what is the LSB (Linux Standards Base) for ? Why adhere to international standards ?

Open standards and open formats commonly agreed upon are a good thing. Please don't confuse these with closed proprietary lock in.

  • Its hard to steal something that's free. But Microsoft is pretty good about taking credit for what isn't theirs. Apple is pretty good at it too, they do give credit, just not often or without whispering.

  • btw is from berkley. as unix is from ucla.

  • Yeah... Windows isn't as good as Linux but it is better than mac. You wanna know what computer can get a virus from a professional in .78 seconds? Mac... You wanna know what has the worst Way to explore files? Mac. Mac is the WORST for security. You might be able to make your own firewall... so what? They still suck. Nobody even makes viruses for mac anymore... they do it on the more common opporating systems now, like windows so they really can get viruses easier

  • dude you are very weak minded OSX uses a FreeBSD kernal one of the most securest kernals on the planet the mac OS your taking about is 8 which ran on the system kernal your info on macs is from 1993

  • @SamueltehG33k no kernal is 100% and regardless of the kernal it uses now still doesn't mean it's impervious to greyware. it's the fanboys that believe their OS of choice is immune to malware..So even with FreeBSD's kernal it can still be broken into if the hacker has enough time.

  • @SamueltehG33k You are weak minded. Do you really think the only security is kernel level? There are tons of security holes in ALL systems. Most of them come from web browsers. The Adobe Flash plugin is also known to bring in numerous security holes. Mac is based from the Mach kernel which incorporates parts from various Unix-based operating system kernels.

  • @AQwalkthroughs I dissagree, i think windows is the least secure, linux is free and its way more secure.

  • dude, you can detach the gadgets from the sidebar. You just drag the gadgets out of the sidebar and right click on the sidebar and click close. You don't even need the sidebar to be on the desktop.

  • The longhorn project is not the same as vista. They scrapped most of the code at the last minute(something about the toolkit being used still in beta- They had a beta operating system built with a beta toolkit) and wrote vista in 2 years. They only kept a few small things like the gadgets and some graphics. This is why vista sucked when it first released. In my opinion windows has always sucked except for black xp- mod of xp with vista theme and extra patches.

    PCLinuXOS = FTW

  • im a Linux user, but here s the deal, Linux is not all that perfect either. it gets stuck and some time sound errors(u know, sound is playing for like 10 secs after closing the player) i like sticky notes in Linux and i like those note putting things in vista. making the ultimate desk top is not the main point, every one should be able to use it, i mean ubuntu is very internet dependent. and there are 2 many distributions.

  • nerd

  • I agree on you with the Open Source thing

  • Interesting. I'm not to knowlagable on this kind of subject. I've used Firefox for many years because I like the design and layout best. I've used Windows XP because windows is the most avalable and it doesn't crash every 5 minutes like Windows 98 did. For future though, I might look towards other OS' including open source.

  • Here's my opinion.

Linux gives power to the user, that's a fact. If you can use it well it can easily out do the other os's on the market.

Mac is disgusting. It may be safe and secure but offers no fun. A few pretty feature don't make an operating system. Mac is overpriced and more restrictive than windows.

Everyone I know that uses a mac, uses windows like programs such as office for mac. Or they'll use virtualisation software to run windows in mac because the OS has no practicality.

  • you are very opinion on macs especially since with OSX i have the ability to open the kernal OSX is one of best OSe ever but the only thing holding it back is its hardware. other than that one of the most beautiful secure functional and great OSe i ve ever used

  • also i havent used a windows program since is switched on either platform :)

  • At first I just thought you were one of the windows haters.

However I can see your reasoning to why you dislike windows and you can at least back it up.

I am constantly trying new operating systems through the means of virtualisation software.

Just one question though. Can you honestly say there is any more user friendly operating system than windows. I believe anyone can pick up windows quick smart. It is set out in a simple and logical fashion.

  • macs in m experince is alot more user friendly than windows the programs all know each other and work together flawlessly and all use the same commands

  • Netscape had tabs before before Firefox, also Firefox wasn't "created" by linux Mozilla has no connections to Linux it's just an Open Source company.

  • i ment opensource not linux TCM goups them all together (he called pcbsd a linux distro LOL) netscape had tabs? which version i was a netscape user from 1997-1999 i dont remember tabs

  • Fair enough. It seems you have good reasons for liking os X and you just don't bash windows for the fact it's bigger than everyone else. Keep up the videos.

  • Gah, can't take the mistakes! BSD = Berkeley Software Distribution, referring the University of California at Berkeley. Unix was created at Bell Labs. SunOS was based on BSD Unix, but BSD Unix came before it. The story is Linus Torvalds began Linux to use and learn the functions of his Intel 80386 CPU. He developed early Linux from the Minix OS, a Unix-like OS, using GNU C compiler. Minix was created by Andrew Tanenbaum on his OS principles. Linux is unique from Unix, Minix, but it is Unix-like.

  • GNU was started to create an operating system entirely of free software. They had completed much of the work and were working on a kernel, GNU Mach when the Linux kernel came along. People paired the Linux kernel with GNU to assemble the GNU/Linux operating system. The Linux kernel is not a complete operating system without the GNU parts. GNU is paired with other kernels in other OSes, like GNU/Darwin, GNU/kFreeBSD, and others.

  • I'll leave you alone after this. Your intent was good and thanks for trying to correct glaring mistakes. Standards make the computing world go round. Without standards, it would be hard for computers from different manufacturers, (and/or) different OSes to talk to each other. The Internet Protocol, TCP/IP, HTML, USB are standards. Open Source is about creating free and open standards. I understand what you're saying. The critique is that Microsoft and Apple create proprietary/closed standards.TY

  • alright thanks bro

  • Linux is the kernel, it's not base off of GNU.

Gnu is the userland. In other words, Gnu is packages and tools; such as BASH, The GNU Compiler Collection (GCC),GNOME, and many more.

But your video was good,no one really pointed out that Apple and MS take a-lot from GNU/Linux.

    Sorry for my grammar.

  • not trying to prove a point here but there is software so u can have multiple desktop for windows. Windows may not have it standard but if u really wanted it for windows then find the software.

  • yes but the fact is its not built into the OS yet windows is the most expensive OS

  • to be free to what what we wanna do, this is correct :)

  • Well, you are a nice young guy (relative to me) and you are fortunate to be living in the Geek Golden Age. lol I suppose that one could argue that it started in 1993.. and there are other candidate starting years.

I can remember how for so many years the concept of watching a movie on a computer was simply impossible, and I could understand exactly why. I remember watching my first Divx movie and I was shocked!

Anyway I have enjoyed watching some of your clips! Thanks!

  • P.S. It all started with the Intel 4004!

  • i use sarfi can u do a revi on it sarfi vs fire fox

  • 5/5 good stuff, awesome corrections lol

    think i'll subscribe to you

  • FireFox :]

  • You said that "If it wasn't for Firefox, IE woudn't have tabs". While it's true that Firefox's popularity brought tabs to IE, the first browser to use tabs, if I recall correctly, was Opera. So for tabbed browsing, Opera should be most credited.

  • yes very true but FF drived innovation in IE when FF2 passed IE6

  • If I remember correctly, Snow Leopard was only meant as a trick-out exercise, to get stuff running quicker, which is an example of why apple has so stringent hardware requirements: You try optimising every single piece of hardware in the Windows Library.

As for Longhorn vs Vista, you have to remember that Vista had to be made from the ground up, since XP had so many vulnerabilities that had to be patched after the fact. Longhorn was XP derivative, hence the superiority.

  • yes but its intel only

  • you should talk you can't even say ubuntu correctly

  • shut the fuck up troll

  • don't you have anything better to do, then troll the youtube?

  • longhorn isn't better than windows vista! for fuck sake vista poops all over it. sp1 is great it has fixed all of the problems i was experiencing with vista c'mon man? bash Microsoft Much?

  • you have never used longhorn confirmed

  • .....

  • whats the difference from linux mac and pc

  • Mac is for users that want their computer to work but don't want to know why, Linux is for users who want their computer to work and want to know why, Windows is for people who want their computer not to work and don't want to know why.

  • MAC FTW!

  • I don't know much about computers.....

  • BSD came from Berkly BSD= Berkly Software Distribution

  • Windows 7, WTF are you talking about, Its not even out yet, its in very early stages of beta, All we seen is a couple of demos and pictures. Nothing more, How can you comment on a OS that you dont know anything about?

  • i said from what ive seen pay attention

  • Linux ftw :D I beleive Fedora had multiple desks first. I'm not sure though. You know....its funny how apple and windows randomly rip-off linux and fail to mention it during their demonstrations. lol

  • I use VLC player, love that little program for media player.

  • Longhorn kicked ass man I wish Microsoft released a Longhorn beta instead of Vista I woudl use it over Any other OS Longhorn was incredible it was the one thing inm y eye Microsoft did right but they killed it.

  • What netcafes don't they let you use IE Lmao.

  • cyber cafe here in new mexico :)

  • You're coming around, son. :-)

  • I love open source. Open source has done a lot of great stuff. I guess I was wrong to think there should be open source standards. However, I do like the Tango Desktop Project, which tries to make lots of open source projects look nice and clean with certain standards

  • BSD stands for Berkeley Software Distribution. It was created by University of California, Berkeley.

  • thanks man just had a brain freeze

  • damn...your good at arguing..lol

    well, nice video.
