Game Gear seems nice, just wish I could find one that worked correctly. Perhaps a re-conditioned Game Gear might be worth it? (strange, Lynx and GameBoy seem to have had higher built quality, their screens having faded a bit but still acceptable) Then again, with the 3DS Virtual Console coming soon....but emulation just doesn't feel the same, does it?

There's a reason why the Nintendo Gameboy was superior to the Sega Game Gear, firstly Game Gear ate your batteries too fast and secondly Gameboy had a much better game library. Game Gear being a coloured handheld doesn't mean much for me, it's the available good games that make everything count.
Apparently, Sega never heard of the Atari Lynx or Turbo Express. One being a 8 bit color handheld and the other being a 16 bit color handheld which could play home console games. Hmm... I wonder where Sega got the idea for the Nomad?

Actually the truth about why Dreamcast failed is cause Sony paid stores to replace DC with the PS2, thus stores put there DCs back into the warehouses, where they would never be sold again, Sony paid stores in japan to shut down Dreamcast.
Thats why all of a sudden, you can find new Dreamcast systems alot of times.
That and sony used the color of law to use software publishers not release multi system games for the dreamcast. Which is why there are so few. That and the lack of good software. The dreamcast had some good titles, but not enough to keep it above PS2
Also the touchscreen feature is already old and mentioned alot, so think of something new instead of the old, same, stupid thing. Also if you think the PSP barely has games, you're an 'idiot'. Look at your local game store before shouting your mouth, and I know less games are being sold for the PSP. Plus I know that games are important for handheld systems, so shut up. And I know that graphics aren't nearly important, so shut up with that.

Why did SEGA always like making commercials that grossed you out? Bugs being squished, faces being flattened, eating bacon with pickled eggs, kids getting flattened, slime, boogers (Boogerman).
If you look closely, in EVERY Sega advertisement they made fun of Nintendo. But, I didn't now one other kid that had a Sega CD, 32X, or Dreamcast! But now, almost every house on my block has a Wii(and a DS or two.) But actually, at one point Sega was way better and was on top. But then, they kept on pusjhing it. They continued to milk Sonic to the most of his abilities and then they crashed and burned. Now, Sega only makes games...FOR NINTENDO! Yeah, the people who "eat pickled pig lips!"

Yeah but that goes along with the fact that the game gear had no potential as being portable while the gameboy did. Developers most likely knew this the moment they saw the 6-AA requirement, and the short battery life of those 6 AAs. Total speculation here, but maybe that drove more developers towards gameboy, hence the lack of good support for game gear.

Actually, the Nintendo DS is doing very well with it's games. Better progress than Wii perhaps. The Nintendo DS is for many different types of games.
The Nintendo DS is not only used for games with touch screens, but it's used for non-touchscreen games as well. It's also a great system for remakes (Super Mario 64, Chrono Trigger, Yoshi's Island DS, Kirby Super Ultra Deluxe).
It' doesn't have to use the stylus all the time. But it usually uses both screens for a bigger camera, or map etc.
Nintendo won because they never really bash anyone and just concentrated more on making better games and innovative consoles. Even during the Atari age when Nintendo was just coming out with the Nes. I don't recall a SINGLE ad from Nintendo EVER bashing the Atari or whatever consoles that may have been there before. This SEGA is the exact opposite and that's why they are nowhere now! :-D

Look at the dreamcast it had the ability to connect to the internet almost a decade before Nintendo or any other console thought of that. @bmcj199 The PSP has it's flaws but most of the games look as good as the PS2 like Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep and the DS games look like PS1 games. Now I'm not saying the PSP is perfect (it's about the games) but when the 3DS comes to town it will probability put PSP out the running since the the 3DS is basically a PSP merged with a DSI with 3D (3D is overrated) I have a DS too but the DSI had just had a dumb camera Nintendo hopefully will make it up when 3DS comes out soon.
What's weird about these adverts is that they basically say that Game Boy fans are dumb because they're entertained by games in monochrome. dont use it on the road, lol. it even needed its own Power adapter( not anyone worked on it) so I had to stick a toothpick with the normal adapter, cause I couldn't find its own anywhere.
your idea of getting rechargeble battery packs is good, but gamegear will suck the soul from them more quickly, because rechargeable batteries are 1.2 volts, and alkalines are 1.5 volts. I'm not paying $20 for energizer lithium batteries, cuz they will add up very quickly.

@bmcj199 The PSP has it's flaws but most of the games look as good as the PS2 like Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep and the DS games look like PS1 games. Now I'm not saying the PSP is perfect (it's about the games) but when the 3DS comes to town it will probability put PSP out the running since the the 3DS is basically a PSP merged with a DSI with 3D (3D is overrated) I have a DS too but the DSI had just had a dumb camera Nintendo hopefully will make it up when 3DS comes out soon.

What's weird about these adverts is that they basically say that Game Boy fans are dumb because they're entertained by games in monochrome. Yet the dumb thing is surely to be entertained by something simply because it has colours. It's like saying someone who reads a book is dumber than someone who watches a cartoon.

Actually, I want to HAVE a PS3, but I'm waiting for a HDTV before I bother. The Playstation 3 has a much more reasonable price now. And it's more compact.
Each Playstation console lasts 10 years or more on the market. I think they have a very good reputation on their hands. They're expensive at first, yeah. But you just wait it out. Doesn't take too long for price to come down.

I think some people who would've otherwise wanted Game Gear might have been turned off by SEGA's condescending approach at the time. I mean come on, if some salesperson walked up to me and said "Oh, you like our competition's product, I bet you also like to stare at electric fly traps. Would you like to buy our product instead?" I'd probably be too pissed off at them to want to.
Anyway I don't think I even heard of Game Gear until 4 or 5 years ago which was still years too late anyway.

The game gear was great... just as long as you
dont use it on the road, lol. it even needed its own Power adapter( not anyone worked on it) so I had to stick a toothpick with the normal adapter, cause I couldn't find its own anywhere.

your idea of getting rechargeble battery packs is good, but gamegear will suck the soul from them more quickly, because rechargeable batteries are 1.2 volts, and alkalines are 1.5 volts. I'm not paying $20 for energizer lithium batteries, cuz they will add up very quickly.

I reckon if game gear was a bit cheaper and wasnt so bulky more people would have bought into it, cos colour back then on a handheld console was like a god-sent, plus it had the perk of a TV extension onto it. But yeah its a pitty the batteries didnt last so long.
