this guy is good, one of the best, and perfectly legal move coz the ball didnt hit another player or the floor - its just like somebody catching a ball and juggling with it for a bit before they actually get hold of it properly except here he's done it on purpose :) seriously if he thought that up he deserves a medal or something :)
@Nugget312 Nah. Intentional throw forward. See law 12 of the rule book. IRB website. I won't say that BOD knew or wanted to throw it forward but that is the result if you run in a forward direction down the field, throw the ball in the air and catch it again yourself. Different if he was going sideways or backwards but no good strictly according to the rules. No-one pinged him for it though. I don't think its very good for the game on the whole though if it were allowed.
The move was not legal because the pass was forward. However that was the only thing wrong with it, as with many of the paces at speed, the player throws the ball backwards but the forward momentum of the player overrides the strength of the backwards throw.
@senluijr I dont think it did but in any case it wasn't a pass cos it didnt touch another player, or the ground for that matter so not a knock on either.
@springbokk4life Yes we are watching at an angle and there is a nice white line along the turf that helps us judge it, having said that I have heard people say it is about the throwing motion not the path of the ball that matters, not been able to find an official copy of the rules to check. He passed the ball backwards but went forwards with momentum.
it was copied of james simpson daniel he did it against newzealand and scored agasnt lomu ! if you write in his name and watch sinbads magic moment you will see!:D BTW brain o'driscoll BEST CENTRE EVAR!:D
is this move legal because he did pass it forward but then again he just threw it up and caught it himself, if this is legal im so gonna try this in my game next tuesday
oi mate f**k off leave the guy alone u asked for it cause ur a f**kin sore loser grow up and then talk back when you learn to be a real sports fan yeah!
IT IS illegal, for the one fact that the guy who would have tackled/tryed to tackle, got taken out by the running thru cutting player, watch it... it is still great by any means
no its one hundred percent legal. its not a knock on, the ball didn't touch the ground. its not a forward pass, he didn't pass the ball, he maintained possesion. and its not obstruction or cross over, because when he was behind his team member, he did not have the ball in his hands.
I guess the guys at IRB are also scratching their heads about this... yeah, it looks like an obstruction because it's obvious that he passed to himself on purpose creating the obstruction. In a skipped pass the ball is catched by another player given the fact that the tactic....is...the ball...aaaaargh!!!!
i think it would have been obstruction or crossing if he hadnt chucked the ball in the air, but the ref must have jsut counted that as a pass or summin thats what im guessin
Not obstruction. O'Driscoll does not have possession of the ball when his teammate moves between him and the opposing player. It's no different than a skip pass.
cant beat carlos spencer with the passing tricks tho

He is running sideways but it is still probably fractionally forwards measuring from the line at 0:20 . Class move nonetheless.

No, there was obstruction and a forward pass. Touch-judge should have seen it.

It wasnt forward
jameshowlett1991 2 years ago
yes, since it was a backwards pass. If he had thrown it over the defender, making it a forward pass, it would be illegal.

I think the whole act IS legal, but the fact the player trying to tackle BOD got nailed by the opposing player makes it an illegal play, watch it

No. Read what I said, its illegal for that reason, but in the heat of play the ref cannot judge that, so it was let slip
