Loved the vidoe. Wish I could have seen more. Just love Knots Landing and wish it would show the re-runs. I can remember this programme like it was yesterday. Please bring it back, or, make a "Knots Landing - The Next Generation" with the children or family or the original stars, with guest appearances from the original cast.
I remember watching Knots Landing in the late 80's and early 90's. I knew I was not going crazy because I remember this show coming on when I was growing up.
Hey do you guys realize that Knots Landing made history by being the First Prime Time Soap Opera that had African American Neighbors which was a very daring move considering that The Ewings never associated with any African Americans.
@laminage NO. but I a aware that MOVITA CASTANEDA was also a CAST MEMBER
Yet, she was never invited to participate in Cast photo shoots, reunions or whatever.
oh, that's right.. "She was just a Mexican." Never mind that she was the original TEHANI in the original "Mutiny on the bounty" with Clark Gable in 1935 or "The Girl from Rio" and so many others or that she was married to Marlon Brando
and where are those "African American Neighbors" in the cast listings or appearances??
@JC4crs I never watched KL, I just remember there was an Actor named Larry Riley who sadly enough died of AIDS like Howard Rollins did when they worked on A Soldier's Story. I remember admiring the fact that Gary Ewing finally got his act together even though he dd have his share of problems.
In reality, in many ways this was the prototype for Desperate Housewives. Yet, when Val & Karen discussed getting a Pizza, that really indicated how much of an influence Comfort Food could be.
To the residents of Seaview Circle: I remember the show from its beginning to its extremely awkward ending. Never have I been so consistently entertained by such professionals.
i never understand why doug sheehan wasn't in this reunion he was 4 years in knots landing and was very important charter, until today i dont sure what happen to ben after all we never saw a body
@yaniv235 Agreed. and I have to say I thought that Ben and Valeen were a much better couple than any other spouse she had (yes, including Garry). The way they just got rid of him and never gave us closure as to what exactly happened to him wasn't nice.
Michele did not work for FREE. The actor's union doesn't allow anyone in Hollywood to work for free. She worked for Union scale on 5 episodes. Nobody else in that cast had the professional gonads to take less money for the good of the show in it's final season. What a pro she is.
Typically, Michele Lee grabbed the spot as host of the entire show. The woman has always presented herself as THE star of Knots Landing. It's pretty funny that these reunion shows never fail to mention Karen's "Pollyanna Speech" but, God forbid, anyone suggest that the show should have dumped Karen, instead of Laura, in season 9. Ms. Lee, that brain tumor should have been Karen's, NOT Laura's.
To me, Gary and Val were the premier couple, even if they were not included in the original knots. What contributed to its success was their story and the fact that they were connected to the Ewings from Dallas and certainly not Karen and Mac whom I totally disliked. The fact that Karen appears on all episodes is solely due to the fact that, contrary to the rest of the cast, she refused to be off any episode going as far as working for free. She was selfcentered, not a star.
This was definitely one of the better reunions of prime time soap casts ('Dallas' cast couldn't seem to remember each other while the 'Dynasty' cast all hated each other!) Knots Landing was a different prime time soap on a few levels and the cast seemed to really get along. Finally, look how well most of them have aged!
I think Constance McCashin has always been upset about her being written off the show. I dont think she necessarily couldnt be bothered, instead I think she has negative feelings towards the producers, not the cast.
plus she is a psychologist in Boston now. i read somewhere that CBS threatened her if she didnt let them use her pics on the reunion movie & the reunion show that was on 3 years ago. they had to blur her out of the scene where Greg watches "Laura's" tape & do a voice over because they have to have an actor's permission to show their likeness & they only offered her a thousand dollars, which is basically a slap in the face. Ted Shackelford keeps in touch with her
I'll give u that..it was past it's prime but was still very good and in the top 20. It was on 4 seasons after Abby left. It was an ensemble cast so there were many stars instead of one and it's a matter of taste but there's no denying Michele was given star status. Economics rahter than low ratings killed it.
Ted Shackelford has aged remarkably well. He's now a regular on "The Young and the Restless" (and ironically, he's engaged to the character who used to be played by Joan Van Ark). He actually is better looking now than when he was on KL.
i never liked mac...and why is michele lee acting like the star...as i recall this was supposed to be centered around the "DALLAS" blacksheep "Gary" & his wife.
Actually, although this was a spin-off of "Dallas," the Fairgates, Sid and Karen, were the premiere ocuple in the original series. Look at the first season, they were the couple shown first in the opening credits. Plus, Michele was the only castmember to appear in all 344 episodes, so, yes, that does make the star of the series in my eyes.
maybe so but if JR Ewing hadn't forced Gary & Val to leave texas in the 1st place then there wouldnt have been a knots landing....so that makes gary & val the premiere couple...even in the last episode it was all about them reuniting
actually in David Jacobs original version of "Knots", which was created BEFORE "Dallas," there was no Gary & Val. He only added them after "Dallas" became a success to make a spin-off.
I am aware that Knots Landing was created first but Gary & Valene we're always part of it....if u watch the reunion that aired a year or two ago you will see David Jacobs talk about & name the 4 couples who made up the cul-de-sac & Gary & Valene we're 1 of the couples....the Texas branch of the Ewing family was going to be introduced in a later episode in which Lucy found her parents re-married & living in California
In the original drafts way before it made it to the air there were indeed no Gary and Val slated for "Knots". Those characters were created solely by and for "Dallas".
On "Dallas" Gary and Val were extreme backburner and they were also backburner on "Knots" while Michele led the pack. Val ended up leaving and Gary was rarely even seen the last few years.
when joan van ark left that show in 1992 it was well past its prime...and if anybody was the star of that show it was Abby. only when donna mills left did it go downhill
Michele was the only 1 in every show(all 344). She made the show & it couldn't survive minus her. She was older with lots of credits & grounded the show & viewers loved her. "Knots" survived with no Val and with Gary on the backburner. Michele kept things going. CBS and "Knots" were aware of her importance/popularity. Mac did ruin things as he was arrogant/pompous. I could barely watch him but I did like his 1st stories in 3rd season as he helped Karen solve Sid's murder.
well i dont like mac either and when val left the show it was already on its way out anyway. actually she didnt really leave, she did some behind the scenes work b4 she came back 4 the last season
It's nice to meet someone as passionate as I am about the show. It's amazing how many are still so passionate about it to this day. In truth I loved Gary and Val very much and there were so many others I loved so much. It was a classic and there definitely won't be another like it.
Joan Van Ark has not"let herself go", she is just as gorgeous & sexy as she ever was. All three of the Knotts Landing queens Joan, Michele & Donna still are gorgeous. Joan may have had a facelift or two, but she is still a megahorny looker. I enjoy freeze-framing the You-Tube videos & "spanking the pony" for my sex goddess.
i remember that my mom and my grand mother used to see it when i was still a small child but i still remember parts of it the stars and the music wow, people loved it here in Egypt

I stood on the sidewalk in front of Val and Gary'shouse it is a real street in the suburbs of Los Angeles in the hills.
It was truly a amazing feeling to actually stand there and all four homes are right there in front of you.
Really made the show feel all that much realistic to me.
Great show great memories they sure don't write them like that anymore.
