  • Good, I like that you share this video, I wish success always explores the formulas some of applications of Helm-Holtz free energy, and discusses the importance of the partition function.

  • @PLecN yeah I'd figure the partition function has limits

  • Is that beer on his table?

  • hehe he's not recording what he did last time lol... but i like this teacher tho.. he have a lot of interesting view about physics.. lol..

  • He teaches the lesson well. I like this professor..

  • When working out the partition function for the ideal gas, the integrals go from -infinity to infinity. Anyone know why we can do this? I would have thought that we could only integrate over the finite volume.

  • @PLecN Hmm think I've answered this myself ... the integral over positions is not from -inf to inf, but just over the volume. It's the integration over momenta that can be taken to go from -inf to inf.

  • It may be very useful to describe each video content with the time at which the content start in each video. It is difficult to move back and forth and locate the start of each part.

00:00 : Calculation of pressure at fixed entropy, as a function of free energy at fixed temperature

    13:34 Adiabatic theorem

    48:50 : Ideal Gas

Mr Susskind is an awersome teacher and aslo is a top scientist. That is very very unusual according with my experience. These videos are invaluable!.

  • @unusedName1 Professor Susskind does an excellent JOJ of explaining physics, statistical mechanics, string theory, quantum theory, general relativity and particle particles. Pardon my usage of "meme" language "JOJ" means job, he is one the best teachers around universities, his passion for his JOJ and good sense of humour, and well as a superb understanding of the history of physics, and mathematical physics

  • Great, useful for me to review statistical mechanics!

  • Leonardo

  • These lectures are a true gift to humanity.

  • This series of lectures is amazing. When I studied thermodynamics as an undergraduate engineering student I never encountered such clear explanations and derivations of this fascinating subject. Thanks a million!

  • @OneEyedJacker thermo is not a fascinating subject. it sucks.

  • @pokemonmaster08

I#m with @OneEyedJacker on this one!
