I've been struggling for a long time as a bisexual. Some people around me were already beginning to insult me for who I am, even the ones I'm close with. I don't understand what's the big deal with being a bisexual. I'm like being forced to become straight, which is really impossible for me to do. I really am disappointed. I can't live a normal life.

@DcccChannel Androgens. It has to do more with their levels rather than their mere presence, and this only applies to male homosexuality since female sexuality functions much differently and has not been investigated as much.
hey guys, I was noticing that you guys were giving a lot of information in the video and a lot of it was really good! i was just wondering if you could share where you got your information from.
I 100% agree :) Love is a feeling you have deep inside your heart. Like, if you're with the person you love your heart flutters and you always fight the urge to smile. You can't help the feelings in your heart. You can strictly force a gay man into being straight, but his heart won't flutter to someone he doesn't love because love is blind. I'm not gay myself but I've read a tone of stories and videos about gay hate.
@HelenaHiccups i agree 2 being gay and being str8 is somthing people naturally do its not done over the influence of their own desicion i am a christian and i think theirs nothing wrong with being gay god wants evryone to accept each other for the way he created them and i belive that gay people are in heaven as well as str8 people
This was interesting. I'm neither gay nor christian, but it was good to see a straightforward unbiased consideration of what we currently know. Yes, its more complicated than there being a "gay gene" - the issue you raise re twins shows this, but I think it's most likely an interaction of genetics and "biology" as you put it.

that explains why im left handed and no one else in my familiy is. no jokes im actualy gay and this is true no one that i know of is left handed in my familily (alive or died within the lat 40 years)
I grew up an only child in a religious environment. Somehow as far as sex is concerned it was the girls I always wanted, but admit there are some great looking guys on the planet. Man is polymorphic the Open-Encyclopedia article on Child Sexual Development says "The varity of human sexual behavior does not fit a single norn." Some ancient cultures had great respect for gay relationships, our Western Culture only values the family unit as portrayed in the bible. For me same sex is not a sin.
another interesting thing to note about the rat study, is there is not any actual proof the rats are homosexual....the study showed that hormones made the rats ehibit feminine charcteristics,...but the problem is that having feminine characteristics does not make you gay...or will they make you like homosexual sex...its not at evident that homosexuals are always more effeminant than heterosexuals, and there are a very significant number of gay men who are decidedly not effeminant.
the problem is that the biological differences are not found to be evident in all homosexuals,..and that there are a number of hetrosexuals that posess these same physiological differences and are not gay...the reality is its a combination of all oif the above,..parenting, peer relationships, social issues, and genetics, hormones and even in some cases an element of choice, since no study actually can eliminate any of these factors in every case..(btw you actually have to read the studies)
I did a study about men who have pituitary glands that are smaller than usual tend to be gay, and women with larger ones tend to be lesbian. Also boys and girls who are victims of sexual abuse (rape) before they reach puberty also tend to be gay later in life because it has such an impact on the mind as well as sexual hormones.
speaking as an old school gay person, who has taken a few baseball bats up side his head, and been beaten down more than a few times. It is so refreshing to hear logic and sense being openly discussed in theis forum. At nearly 50 years old I now have a wonderful husband, and am happy- let's never return to the cruelties my generation experienced.
I still believe that the environment you grow up in still plays a slight role in your sexual development in adolescences. It could vary based on the trauma, experience, and/or personality of the individual.
I still haven't ruled that theory out completely. Certain sensations and experiences or the lack of, can have a profound psychological ramification on some individuals in those early childhood or even adolescent years.
I disagree. I had a great relationship with parents, grandparents etc. The ideal childhood. My mom and dad both knew there was something different about me even when very young. When I finally told them I was Gay they were NOT shocked at all. Perhaps that's why they accepted it so easily; because they just knew all along. I dunno. It angers me when someone says that gay people are evil/of the devil like it's some sort of underground sinister plot or something.
thankyou so much for sharing this, im 14, bi, and have grown up in a family that doesnt support homosexuality. i havent come out to anyone yet but it makes me feel on top of the world to know that theres more out there that feel like i do. i think as a gay community we should keep fighting for our right to be treated as equals no matter what orientation we have. i appreciate this so much, thanks
Just an update to your excellent presentation. There is now very compelling evidence that genes are an important factor leading to sexual orientation. There is some evidence that for at least some gay men it is on the x chromosome. It appears that homosexuality can occur when certain (unknown) genes are present, but will not always occur (note the identical twin studies). It becomes apparant that sexual orientation is influenced by genes, prenatal hormones and other environmental factors.
It has been scientifically proven that gay people are born gay & that there is actually a gay gene. There is nothing you can do about it, it's just they way people are. There is actually a chromosome in the brain that appears pink in men if they are gay that straight men do not have, & if a woman is gay this chromosome is absent. Why can't people just accept that science has an answer for everything & accept & embrace gay people for being who they were born to be?
being gay isnt a choice its a natural feeling that gives some one strong sexual urges to have same sex and also other needs of what a woman would what from a man . if being gay was a choice then the person would find themselves having a same sexual experience .
being gay is wrong the bible doesnt allow it and since it's immoral to society, society uses the bible and other reasons to treat gays abominably the bible also says treat thy neighbor as thy self . people plz be tolerant .lol im not gay
Im strait and a Christian, but i can believe that some people dont choose to be gay. I know a lot of gay people and they dont know God or Jesus because many "Christians" shun them and turn them away from Christianity. So i think its great that you overcame that and you are establishing a support system for gays who want to find God. :)
Speaking as a gay guy: 1) I've heard a lot of those studies re: finger length, brain differences, have been debunked, or dismissed as too speculative. 2) I don't think anyone's sexuality - gay, straight, or necrophiliac - is wholly determined at birth. It's a long process of development, the outcome of a complex interplay of biological and environmental factors, and different in each case, for EVERYONE. Human sexuality is highly mutable, but not chosen. And everyone should have equal rights.
i think i'm bisexual becuse i love a girl but whe keeps denieing me so i just see boys and i start to love them for some reason so yea.. i think i'm bisexual but i hate to say i am bisexual i feel emberressed..this is my first time saying this to anyone i feel so emberressed admitting i'm bisexual and not straight. =\
The fact of the matter is that no one choose their sexual orientation... It's always 'straight' people that say that people "choose" to be gay but I wonder what age did they choose to be straight? Because NO ONE makes a choice about anything without considering their options! I am sure we won't find many straights admitting to thinking about being gay but chose to be straight instead! Get my drift? People don't "choose" what they are attracted to, no more than people "choose" to blink!
Very interesting subject matter and I think I will probably read into it a bit later, the differences between gays and straights is fascinating and I live on a farm and I have seen gay rams haha. On a side note, are your videos aimed at children? they seem somewhat patronizing, but that could just be the mellowed nature of them. Also, do you apply your reasoning and thirst for knowledge and evidence in your belief system? :P
So how can we explain bisexuality?.. I think I'm bi, because I'm attracted to girls but I don't know why I'm attracted to girls, maybe I'm gay and in denial, but I still like some guys, can you still be attracted to the opposite sex and be gay?? what if I've been gay all along but I've been so caught up in being straight that I lost all connection with my gay side? or what if I'm straight and I just want to be gay?.. I'm sorry I've confused everybody with my confusion.. idk what to do...
kendrawhisp - One scientist, Dr. Simon LeVay, believes there is something like a switch in the hypothalamus, a bundle of nerves which initially (the default setting) would make a person find males attractive - during the early development of a fetus if the hormone exposure in the brain are a certain way a fetus develops additional neural bundles in the hypothalamus which makes one find females attractive. Obviously, if the hormone exposure is different, those neural bundles do not develop.
Yes you can like both. I will just say like because I'm gay and I have tested this and yes it is possible to really like the way it feels to have sex with women. So yes it is possible. You never know unless you try it. But don't think your gay side will evaporate. That is what I thought, and I was still really attracted to men as well.
bisexuality may be a very hard subject to explain becuase alot of people are still trying to figure out homosexuals and in their envronments, from what you wrote it sounds that you might actually be bisexual, being bisexual doesnt mean your gay exspecially if your attracted to the other sex, like he said sexuality isnt a choice. its like your brain is a computer and its programed everything that you feel and you know this includes your sexuality to people. Just be your self. and i hope it helped
Most people are either gay or strait...but if you think you are bi, then just accept that. Maybe things will evolve in your life one way or the other...but you will be best off if you are 1) honest with yourself, and 2) not influenced by homophobia when you try to assess your desires in life. Otherwise, don't let anybodies prejudices (gay or strait) rule your life.
SonicTheHedgedawg - While I agree with you in principle, I think the option should be "Who would chose mediocrity over excellence?" Clearly, people do not chose their sexual orientation - if they did, a lot more people would be homosexual.
straight people wise up for once! ask yourself-did i wake up one day and just decide to be straight? or was i just born this way? ask yourself again-did i decide or could i control the color of my skin? no i was born that way-realize some things are ordered and beyond anyones control so live with it-do birds decide to fly? no,they have wings and its not their choice-get educated!!!
Same here...my parents were great about my coming out...as sloppy as that was lol. My dad told me that I was aces in his book and worried about how the world would treat me.
I wish all gay people could experience the same kind of experience with coming out as I had. I have heard horror stories about coming out. I just hope that people will educate themselves so no one else has to go through that.
exspecially this day and age, most stright people dont understand homosexuality, and usually they are afraid or manipulative, so i and alot of others can understand about you coming out
When we come out to our parents, they don't really care about us being gay. They are more worried how the world perceives us, and how the world will treat us.
I got much great respect for you. People got different views but you know can't do nuthing about it. God will show up and prove eithir or wrong at the apponteted time. (bad spelling). ha. but im straight and christian. I dislike how people say they christian and talk bad about gays like they are a different speices. yes (my point of veiw) gay is wrong or a sin. but still we struggle with stuff also. we all just trying to find the truth. Godbless
For those straights who think it's a choice, let me offer this challenge- just for a single weekend, DECIDE to be gay. CHOOSE to be erotically stimulated by someone of the same gender. ELECT to have romantic feelings toward a gay person. MAKE UP YOUR MIND to not be attracted to anyone of the opposite gender. If you can do this, it's a choice. If not, please do what Jesus did and shut up about it.
I don't know why, and I don't think it's such a big deal...All I know is that I am really somewhat gay, and I love it ^^ Of course I chose everything I do ;)
When straight people claim that "people chose to be Gay" they are either ignorant or bigoted. Bigoted people believe that everyone is heterosexual and that "gay people" are really straight but chose (for some perverse reason) to be over-sexual and sinful. It's an old idea - dating from the 17th century. They also believe that people can "become" Gay if they see naked people or pornography because of "original sin" people are weak and find sinful activity easier than "moral righteousness".
Well done for setting up the gay christian network. About time someone did this.
Its needed to give some reassurance to all those who are mentally bullied by "the holier than thou" brigade. I know gay people who have actually been driven away from God because of what other so called Christians have said to them. Such a terrible thing to do!
Anyway, well done. Keep up the good work, and God bless you.
that was a great video. i had to laugh about the left handed thing. six people in my family and im the only left handed person and im gay. thanks for making this its very well dont and informative. Thumbs up
If everyone was true to their nature and didnt lie to themselves (like bi/gay animals) we wouldnt have an overpopulation problem/millions of orphans and unwanted children etc.
Would be great to finally see a video stating that 'all people are created equal in the eyes of God'.. there are stories in the bible about 'gay' relationships, although the church hides them.. it's just a label.. why not just accept each individual for WHAT they are.. you are me, i am you, we are ONE.. and i accept you unconditionally.. ♥♥♥
Science is the study into the Wonder of God's Creation, biology is the study of life, therefore if you were born gay, thats because God made you that way =)
'"Do not call anything impure that God has made clean'", the words of the Lord to St Paul in the Book of Acts.
I'm lesbian and hating it. It's good to know that I probably couldn't have avoided being gay - I always felt deep down that it was my fault. It feels comforting hearing it being spoken about THANK YOU!!! Brilliant video. God Bless.
What I don't get is... is it really so darned bad to just say "I don't know"? "I don't know what makes people a certain way."
It's like an article of faith in the gay community to say that there's a gay gene: Why?! After all, we've had years and years of research and we're still fuzzy on what makes someone left-handed. That doesn't make it right to discriminate against left-handed people!
´m agry. It´s about abnormal processes of hormones during pregnancy, but I think that this is more depending about the age of the mother, as older she is, as more probabilities the baby were gay. I´m gay and I´m the oldest brother (and my mother was 40), and my brother is gay too.
I´m agree. It´s about abnormal processes of hormones during pregnancy, but I think that this is more depending about the age of the mother, as older she is, as more probabilities the baby were gay. I´m gay and I´m the oldest brother (and my mother was 40), and my brother is gay too.
What about bisexuals such as myself? I only hear you talk about gay and straight people. Being a bisexual man, meaning I have erections in the sight of naked man and/or women of whom I find attractive, does that mean I then have a choice?
I think it's likely some of parents, genetics and biology - I hadn't heard about the hormonal research, so very informative -5 Stars- thank you.
Theologically however it is mute because of what you said about choice. You can not control what is sexually attractive and God judges the heart and not the outside and not what we do. This is a very important premise and I don't believe very many "even gay Christians" grasp what this means. It will however lead us to the truth. -PAX-
I don't like the title of this video. The underlining assumption is that homosexuality needs to be explained whereas heterosexuality does not, or to put it more succintly, something that is wrong with you.
BB, I agree that a title like, "What causes people to have differing sexual orientations?" would be more accurate, but shorter titles show up better in YouTube listings. :)
As the poster of the video is concerned with gay issues, rather than a broad discussion of sexuality, the title makes sense to me. You might say 'why do some people have red hair?' that does not mean you are saying redheads have something wrong with them.
Love your video! I always knew that it was biological and one was born gay or straight. What about bi or asexual though? What about men who have sex with men in prison but return to heterosexual relations outside prison?:D Just wondering. Could we all have some bi tendencies?
hmm-i always wondered if it was like amphisexualism, where some organisms (frogs) can change their sex according to certain needs. IE: if an embryo is male and there are excesses of the male pheromones because there are more males than females in a population, maybe to "naturally" reduce competition of other males to females, that embryo wont be attracted to females. abstract shot in the dark, but i guess all angles are necessary in determination. i have a gay sister and i know it's no choice
Don't really beliv in the Biology theory. When I was younger I was attracted to girls but that changed around 6th grade ...cant say whu...just did...I did though primarily spend most of my childhood in the company of females and perhaps I formed my sexual identity the same way they did. They say that your sexual identity is learned between the ages of 4 to 12
Recently there has been a study on the brain that said that gay people had a smaller hypothalamus than women. The hypothalamus is naturally smaller in most womens brains. The hypothalamus is what regulates hormones to the genitals, and is the part of the brain that allows you to feel pain and pleasure..
I seen a great video a while ago where an interviewer asked about 100 couples from all walks of life, ethnicticity, religion, what they thought from your 4 choices caused people to be gay .Then he took aside all the people who believed it was a lifestyle choice and he asked them "OK when did you choose to be straight" , and not one of them could answer the question!!!! thats interesting because they were born straight ---great video
wow, this answers some of my qestions, im really new...i mean i think im gay, but im only 13...i dont know if its just a phase or something...well Anyway, its a great vid. and thanx for what you do!...
Well iam a lesbian. & All the reasons you said..Could be for someone. I mean like some gay people have they reasons for being gay or whatever. I'm not good at explaining stuff..But yeah. lol Good video tho.
It always really bothered me when ppl say "gay gene". It's like if you knew anything about biology, you'd know that it's WAY more complicated than that, which is why it's difficult to find the exact genetic causes along with MANY other things.
Oh wow, I didn't know about the whole rat thing! Interesting! I just hope they weren't harmed in the process. I'm against animal testing, but if it causes no harm then it's fine.
Great video and I'm glad there aren't any neg comments on here. :)

MLMBusinessChoices 1 year ago
another interesting thing to note about the rat study, is there is not any actual proof the rats are homosexual....the study showed that hormones made the rats ehibit feminine charcteristics,...but the problem is that having feminine characteristics does not make you gay...or will they make you like homosexual sex...its not at evident that homosexuals are always more effeminant than heterosexuals, and there are a very significant number of gay men who are decidedly not effeminant.
sociallyunaceptable 1 year ago
the problem is that the biological differences are not found to be evident in all homosexuals,..and that there are a number of hetrosexuals that posess these same physiological differences and are not gay...the reality is its a combination of all oif the above,..parenting, peer relationships, social issues, and genetics, hormones and even in some cases an element of choice, since no study actually can eliminate any of these factors in every case..(btw you actually have to read the studies)

Jalpseon 2 years ago
@Jalpseon

This is probably the most intelligent and rational commentary I've heard on this issue in the YouTube community. Kudos.

thankyou so much for sharing this, im 14, bi, and have grown up in a family that doesnt support homosexuality. i havent come out to anyone yet but it makes me feel on top of the world to know that theres more out there that feel like i do. i think as a gay community we should keep fighting for our right to be treated as equals no matter what orientation we have. i appreciate this so much, thanks

What about the Bisexual female? I'm attracted to males and females. So, is my brain wired as a girl and as a male?
sandbar3000 2 years ago
Just an update to your excellent presentation. There is now very compelling evidence that genes are an important factor leading to sexual orientation. There is some evidence that for at least some gay men it is on the x chromosome. It appears that homosexuality can occur when certain (unknown) genes are present, but will not always occur (note the identical twin studies). It becomes apparant that sexual orientation is influenced by genes, prenatal hormones and other environmental factors.
martemaniac 2 years ago
It has been scientifically proven that gay people are born gay & that there is actually a gay gene. There is nothing you can do about it, it's just they way people are. There is actually a chromosome in the brain that appears pink in men if they are gay that straight men do not have, & if a woman is gay this chromosome is absent. Why can't people just accept that science has an answer for everything & accept & embrace gay people for being who they were born to be?
lilphatboi5 2 years ago
being gay isnt a choice its a natural feeling that gives some one strong sexual urges to have same sex and also other needs of what a woman would what from a man . if being gay was a choice then the person would find themselves having a same sexual experience .
being gay is wrong the bible doesnt allow it and since it's immoral to society, society uses the bible and other reasons to treat gays abominably the bible also says treat thy neighbor as thy self . people plz be tolerant .lol im not gay

Im strait and a Christian, but i can believe that some people dont choose to be gay. I know a lot of gay people and they dont know God or Jesus because many "Christians" shun them and turn them away from Christianity. So i think its great that you overcame that and you are establishing a support system for gays who want to find God. :)
Gangstap18 2 years ago
Speaking as a gay guy: 1) I've heard a lot of those studies re: finger length, brain differences, have been debunked, or dismissed as too speculative. 2) I don't think anyone's sexuality - gay, straight, or necrophiliac - is wholly determined at birth. It's a long process of development, the outcome of a complex interplay of biological and environmental factors, and different in each case, for EVERYONE. Human sexuality is highly mutable, but not chosen. And everyone should have equal rights.

SexciSheila 2 years ago
That was a lot of help.
I always knew it wasn't choice. I talked to some Minister and it's just awful when they say that being gay is a sin. It gets me soooo mad.

Miikaika25 2 years ago
it could still be linked to biology... there is no black and white in nature.
kendrawhisp 2 years ago
kendrawhisp - One scientist, Dr.
Atlavocat 2 years ago
Yes you can like both. I will just say like because I'm gay and I have tested this and yes it is possible to really like the way it feels to have sex with women. So yes it is possible. You never know unless you try it. But don't think your gay side will evaporate. That is what I thought, and I was still really attracted to men as well.
Aurthorcreation 2 years ago
bisexuality may be a very hard subject to explain becuase alot of people are still trying to figure out homosexuals and in their envronments, from what you wrote it sounds that you might actually be bisexual, being bisexual doesnt mean your gay exspecially if your attracted to the other sex, like he said sexuality isnt a choice. its like your brain is a computer and its programed everything that you feel and you know this includes your sexuality to people. Just be your self. and i hope it helped
omgimapure1 2 years ago
Most people are either gay or strait...but if you think you are bi, then just accept that. Maybe things will evolve in your life one way or the other...but you will be best off if you are 1) honest with yourself, and 2) not influenced by homophobia when you try to assess your desires in life. Otherwise, don't let anybodies prejudices (gay or strait) rule your life.
martemaniac 2 years ago
I fail all those other biological markers since they all say I should be straight as an arrow.
Genetics, hormones, they propbably put you somewhere along the straight-gay continuum and early childhood can only shift that a little.
Definitely not a choice though. Who would choose persecution over normalcy? XD
SonicTheHedgedawg 2 years ago
SonicTheHedgedawg - While I agree with you in principle, I think the option should be "Who would chose mediocrity over excellence?" Clearly, people do not chose their sexual orientation - if they did, a lot more people would be homosexual.

Atlavocat 2 years ago
Well done for setting up the gay christian network. About time someone did this.
Its needed to give some reassurance to all those who are mentally bullied by "the holier than thou" brigade. I know gay people who have actually been driven away from God because of what other so called Christians have said to them. Such a terrible thing to do!
Anyway, well done. Keep up the good work, and God bless you.

What about bisexuals such as myself? I only hear you talk about gay and straight people. Being a bisexual man, meaning I have erections in the sight of naked man and/or women of whom I find attractive, does that mean I then have a choice?
jusitke07 3 years ago
i dosent matter what causes gayness, there are bigger problems in the world. gay is a part of sexuality.
lordofthepies7 3 years ago

BeatBuddy 3 years ago
BB, I agree that a title like, "What causes people to have differing sexual orientations?" would be more accurate, but shorter titles show up better in YouTube listings. :)
GayChristianNetwork 3 years ago
Agreed, how about, "Why are people born straight?"
skoek 3 years ago
As the poster of the video is concerned with gay issues, rather than a broad discussion of sexuality, the title makes sense to me. You might say 'why do some people have red hair?' that does not mean you are saying redheads have something wrong with them.

hmm-i always wondered if it was like amphisexualism, where some organisms (frogs) can change their sex according to certain needs.
