    Vous connaissez Sligo ?

  • @ddutruel Je viens de Sligo!!

  • @silverviolette

    Didier

  • I've seen them sing this, with Ronan, I always wondered why they didn't use three part harmony in the chorus, same with some other songs ,but always great anyway!

  • Amazing. God Bless the Tenors and Ireland. Brings tears to me eyes

  • it's a lovely song, but some tenors just cannot sing properly, woeful.

  • Stupendously magnificent! GOD Bless the Tenors and Ireland.

  • During the Famine, an Editorial in the English Morning Times stated " The Celts are going, going with a vengeance. Very soon, an Irishman will be as scarce on the banks of the Shannon as an Indian on the Banks of the Potomac. To-day, it gives me great pleasure to inform you that the Morning Times is gone and we are still here!!!!!

    Didier

  • @liamthedream Consider the import of that statement, even in the 1840's the elite British opinion was aware of the displacement and diminution of Native Americans.

  • @liamthedream

Ireland is immortal... She refused to die. Follow the dream.

You will not believe it. I am not Irish, only my heart !

  • Bring tears to my eyes

  • ohhh my !!

i love this song so much !!

    amacing voices and music ...

    God bless Ireland !!

  • Athenry is in County Galway...in Gaelic "Ath-na- Riog" in English. The Home of the Kings. Ohhh Baby, Let the Free Birds Fly.........

  • FWIW, I have no Irish ancestry, and yet the beauty and poignancy of this piece reaches/grabs deep. VERY deep. It's a wonder no one has made a movie around it. The Irish Tenors themselves make the piece even better. I don't get jealous of other men re: cars, money, possessions, looks, girls, or anything else - except for pipes. I sure wish I could sing like the IT's.

  • Sorry about the delayed answer. I THINK you asked who, IMO, should direct a movie based on this song. Hard question. Ummm, a director who can handle a project w/reverence. Edward Zwick, who helmed Glory. Alan Parker, who helmed The Commitments. With some thought, I'm sure other folx could come up w/good suggestions. Who would you like to see helm this movie?

  • Yeah, It's kind of like listening to African American spirituals, though I'm not of African descent, they still grab you sometimes.

  • good bless ireland!!!!!

  • And you also

  • This makes me feel even more homesick, but its a beautiful song and its about such a terrible thing

  • God bless IRE. I love you my brothers and sisters.

    Grtz, from Armenia

  • I kiss my Irish brothers and sisters and call upon God to bless them - may our Lord bless you

  • thank you for that thought

  • Listen to this

  • When you listen to this song please google the title to find out what it is about. THEN LISTEN AGAIN

  • after my first visit to dublin i made it to get 3 days free in oktober to come back. i love ireland.

greetings from a german living in luxembourg. i can't wait for october!!

J'('étais a Dublin quel beau pays.

  • Most Irish music touches my soul...have been there twice, would go back again in a heartbeat....and the lovely scenes with this video make me miss it!

  • I miss Ireland...

  • Thank you. I'm the only one in my family who has not been to Ireland. One day, I will. Blessings to you.... :)

  • J'espère que tes voeux seront exaucés...

    Garde confiance en l'avenir.

    Amicalement

  • Merci!

  • I can hardly sing this one without bursting into tears...and I don't even relate all that much to my Irish heritage. Maybe this proves it's 'in there." Thank you for the best, emotional version of this lovely, sad song.

  • Merci à toi. J'espère qu'un jour tu retournera à ton patrimoine...

  • Not only is this song a heartbreaker, but the magnificient voices of the Irish Tenors

makes it memorable in every way. The video is outstanding...looks like a beautiful place to live. This is one of my all time favorites. Thanks again

  • Thank you for all the compliments ...

  • Well, here it is 10:30 p.m. and I am once again listening to this addictive music, and fantastic video. Can't get enough ..I think I need 'rehab' to break my obsession with this awesome piece of music and accompanying film.! Wow

  • Beautiful singing, beautiful words and beautiful video!

  • no worries mate

  • Merci beaucoup, c'est magique !

  • This song, by these guys, would make anyone cry...just beautiful. Listen to it several times a week. Who wrote it???

  • "The Fields of Athenry" was written in the 1970s by Pete St. John. A claim was made in 1996 that a broadsheet ballad published in the 1880s had similar words; however folklorist and researcher John Moulden found no basis to this claim, and Pete St. John has stated definitively that he wrote the words as well as the music.

The song was first recorded in 1979 by Danny Doyle. The most successful version was released by Paddy Reilly in 1983.

  • What a lovely video you made. Great song by the Irish Tenors. Thank you for sharing this with us.

  • Very nice! You've captured much of the beauty of Ireland. Nice job and thanks for posting to my video....an honour!

  • Lovely - I miss Ireland! And the Irish Tenors are still going strong and are fantastic.

  • Come on Munster!

  • Absolutely beautiful.

  • Many thank for you
