  • His theory of foreign policy (of opposing "hegemony" and forming ties with the 3rd world) is basically still followed by China today. (Though I don't know if he originated this policy or it was already there under Mao.)

  • @RWT683 Actually that's mao's policy. But I think China's foreign policy today is to form ties with the 3rd world and form the strongest ties with the USA, Europe and Russia. The reason why Mao advocated this third-world friend policy is simply because back that time China opposed both the Soviet Union, even if it is the leader of socialist camp, and the USA.

  • @lizijian1212 Yes, but in particular the idea of opposing the hegemony of any one country (today, the USA) is still the center of China's foreign policy. They are one of a number of countries that want a "multi-polar" world. (No doubt, with China as one of the "poles.") China has deep economic ties with the US but Chinese leaders are trying to move away from dependence on the US dollar and US economy.

It's interesting because Hua was overthrown but his foreign policy sounds the same as Deng.

  • @RWT683 Well, in fact all major powers in the world, except the hegemony itself, oppose, maybe to different degree, to the dominance of a single country. In this sense, it is understandable why China, along with Russia, and France (before Sarkozy), etc advocate a multi-polar system. In China nowadays, very rarely you hear the explicit expression of opposing the hegemony. Instead, it is so obivious that Chinese government has put great emphasis on maintaing a good relationship with USA.
