I can tell from the description that these are probably young singers, but they should have taller vowels. I'm a seven year choir member from 6-12 grade, so I know a thing or two. We sang this song last week at our spring concert (alto 2 ftw).
i absolutely agree. i think youtube used to have a version with a young boys choir singing this song and it was simply beautiful... but i can't find it any more.
We're singing this song in my choir too. But we don't have as much people as most choirs. Last year we only had around 10 but this year we have about 25. My school only has 100 and something kids.
Wow. That is so sad. I am singing this song in my bel canto class in middle school this year. I am also trying out with this song for a play this is a very nice song.
wow your story is so sad! but what a great song we just did this in choir and we kicked butt at it, our parts were a little different and we were in three sections. but good job.
OMG WE SANG THIS!!!!!! IN FINALS IN VANCOUVER!! lol we got 2nd place in all of BC!!!!! i was so proud lol. we sang it exactly like that but a little faster. we even had the four soloists in the beginning and they had pretty much the same uniform as us so at first i was like OMG is that us?? lol
Omg this is my song we sang it in choir and i sang the solol i sang the first part and near the end i sang im going up a yonder and tehy sang going up a yonder ah it was soo nice!!
I sang it with my choir this year, and we're gonna sing the full version after the vacation. We(the old) sang it with the small kids, and none of the understood what it was all about, and they just stood and screamed and tried to sing as loud as they could, while we the old, were all about to cry because it was so sad. It really is a beautiful song^^
I hit submit before I got to comment what originally was on my mind before my train of thought got derailed... They sounded beautiful and the story that went with it made me cry even harder.
We sang this in my honors competition choir. Got a superior. I've been out of school for 6 years and can't help but flash back to our director saying, "It's goIN' not goEN' up a yonder, ladies!" . This song is making me cry. God I miss singing this song with my group. For *years*, this was my honors choir's signature song, then we got a new director who took it from us and gave it to the beginning choir. We were devastated because they butchered it. *sobs*
My school has to sing this for a concert in May, we got the thing on Friday and we knew most of it by the end of rehersal. It sounds good, but no where near as good as the kids in the video. Thanks for putting this up.
Our choir is larning this song for a spring concert and I decided I'm going to learn it before everyone else because it sounds so beautiful. We're not singing it for anyone special- but I'm sure that it'll be good. I know as I sing this I think about someone....Thanks for putting this up
for a man so very dear to our chorus. It was... so beautiful... we were all pretty much sobbing too... I agree with the powerful Katie.I couldn't hit all of my soprano 2 notes
my university choir has done this in two concerts so far and it is my absolute favorite. the first soprano part is so powerful that sometimes in rehearsal i'd be brought to tears and couldn't hit the notes!
We're singing this in chorus c:

This was sung by a children's choir at the funeral of Polly Klass back in '93 or 94, whenever her body was discovered. It was heartbreaking...
