This looks like the worst thing I have ever seen in my life. Godawful song (sounds like something that would get nominated for an Academy Award, and there's nothing worse you can about a song than that). What a waste of Raul's talent!
I just watched it yesterday with my Accounting professor and all other fellow UCLA students. IT WAS BOMB. This was my first live musical ever and everything was purely fantastic. I love the cast who did an awesome and amazinglyyyy good job, I love the fact that all the music is composed by Alan Menken, who is just SUPERB! And I just love the theme which evolves around LIFE, HOPE, LOVE, and FAITH! Glory Glory Glory!!!
Just saw this last week, fantastic show. Raul Esparza is PHENOMENAL. This clip really doesn't do the show justice, plus the choir is off beat with Esparza.
This show got clobbered in the reviews. I do agree with them on Brooke Shields though. She feels out of place with me with stiff acting and she can barely sing. The couple of duets Ms. Shields has with a couple of people the other person over powers her plus makes her stick out like a sore thumb or at least this is how I see it anyway..
@adamefimoff I'm not sure what you're asking of me. I'm talking about Raul's performance being on fire not anything having to do with the character he's portraying.
Alright so the Glenn Slater criticism appears to be somewhat justified here, although I think he did a good job on the "Home on the range" songs. But according to the first newspaper reviews of this show the lyrics are " cliché ridden", "not as good as the music"...
Raul's on fire in this show. Brooke Shield's the weak link of the show. Don't expect to meet either him or Brooke in person as I heard that they both don't do the fan thing. This majorly sucks especially since I'm helping to pay for their paycheck with seeing this show more than once! Whatever!
@piazzalover it's not in his job description to come out and talk to you, that said...he always comes out after his shows. I don't know why he wouldn't for this particular show, maybe he doesn't, but he has always been nothing but gracious toward his fans.
Glenn Slater seems pretty competent to me. Maybe the hate he gets is due to the fact that he doesn't come close to the genius of Alan's former collaborator Howard Ashman, but that comparison would be unfair to pretty much anyone.
@TsWade2 Bullshit. Being cliched to death isn't fun. Have you heard his pathetic attempt in Love Never Dies? No one is saying he has to be Ashman, Rice, Hart, Stillgoe, etc., but he is far from a great lyricist.
@TsWade2 ha so "Devil Take the Hindest" or whatever is a good name for a song that has nothing to do with that? sure. Love Never Dies sucks, and you're a fucking moron if you think differently.
@NYCinema that's another way of putting it, but you're saying the same thing. They are way ahead of the beat and I can't believe how the producer/engineer missed this. It ruins the whole recording.
The music should be good. This is obviously playback to a studio recording and I wonder....whats with the WEIRD CLAPPING?! The claps are so far ahead of the beat it sounds like they are clapping along to a completely different song. Very distracting....they might as well play a drumtrack from a different song with a faster tempo over this tune, it just ruins the recording for me.

The lyrics are boring at best and the musical if you can call it that needs to be recast.

I can tell the lyrics are by Glen Slater >_>
How the fuck does that guy continue to get so much work?

@lolhowdoishotweblol Leave Glen Slater alone. He's a great lyricist. Cut him some slack.

@dingothing Maybe. And they don't know how to respect Alan's new lyricist. He and Alan have been nominated a Tony For Best Score for Little Mermaid.

Is it my imagination, or the claps were earlier than the down beat of the music?
