In 1966 (I had just turned 6), I was in some grocery store parking lot, waiting to see Sailor Bob. Well, more kids turned out than they anticipated, and the whole thing was running very late, but Sailor Bob, God bless him, stayed and made sure that he at least said "Hi" to every one of us, personally.
The "first" version of The Sailor Bob Show ran from January 1959 until early 1969. Various formats continued into the mid 1970s. "The Sailor Bob Story" 90-minute documentary is now available.
what year was this show? it was well preserved compare to the soupy sales show where I live on local tv we had the young world show in the afternoons I was invited to sing on the show the technisions did not like my voice so they had turned the record up to dubb my voice it was humiliating
I know that Bob was instrumental in my life. I remember doing puppet show at school with my own gilly gull puppet. Later as I grew up I met BOB at the fair and he gave me a picture with his autograph on it. I got to meet him again on "Good morning Virginia" a show on channel 8 in Richmond,va. in the 1980's. I was a regular on the show for one year before it when off. I am handwriting expert from Virginia. I enjoyed meeting all the celbs. from Va. I wish you well Bob. Hello BOB, BRENDA BRADSHAW
Seems I remember Bob doing the weather and making drawings on plexiglass for Channel 12 when I first moved here in 71?? Watching his documentary on Feb 8 now, maybe they will mention that....opps they are now.lol...Great guy..
@camry1111...yeah, my brother and I had our pis taken with Sailor Bob at the state fair, too. Truthfully, I am bothered they are long gone. I ache for those lost memories.
Wow, been waiting for these clips for a long time. Anyone have their pictures taken with Sailor Bob from the State Fair? My Brother and I do, looks like its from the late 60s.

Sailor Bob is still living, his son lives next door to my girlfriend. I used to speak to him years ago when I went to Southside Building Supply were he worked. A super nice man
@TheVagolfer Bob made a huge contribution to the growth and success of Southside Builders Supply from 1976 until his retirement in 2007. As to your girlfriend, I am not sure to whom you're referring, as all my neighbors are married.
She actually lives down the street from you in your subdivision, we have spoken to you several times while walking our dogs. I hope Bob is well, he was a big part of my childhood.
@premiereone Yes! You should join The Sailor Bob Fan Club on Facebook. You can keep up with what we're doing there. Currently, a documentary is in production, and his archive of memorabilia will be donated to The Virginia Historical Society for preservation, research and display.

LOL, I had totally forgotten what Mr. Mouse looked like! Whatever happened to those fantastic puppets? Are they in a local museum somewhere?

I was the voice of Gilly Gull for about 2 years when the show was produced at WXEX-TV, back in the early 70's.

Never seen or heard of this guy until just this minute, but damn if this doesn't look to be some classic children's television.
