Given the theme of the CD, the meaning of this song should be obvious; half the Vikings around Miklagard were pirates, and the other half were pirates who were being paid off by the Emperor to join the Varangian Guard, or otherwise serve the Byzantine Empire.
YAHAAARGH! Just catch me if you can! hurry ye lad! us pirates are too fast for you, and our canon blasts will destroy you! (I still love Turisas, no intentions to disminish anyone, just love pirates more than vikings :P)
This song highlights the fact that Vikings were paid to hunt pirates and yet often attacked non pirates as a form of piracy themselves. "Tones turn to grey after sunset." "Underneath the paint your flag is still black." and there are more, surprised others didn't point this out.
@Rawwwwwwwwrrrrrrrr Just because the pirates you and I know of didn't, didn't mean they didn't have raiders that they didn't know of attacking their ships and settlements. They fir the description of pirates rather well.
@Rawwwwwwwwrrrrrrrr A pirate is anyone who commits an act of piracy. Pirates were around loooong before the Golden Age of Sail, and the Vikings are arguably one of the most proficient, and most prolific groups of pirates in history!
"Full sails ahead, oceans painted red When the soldiers of fortune hunt for pirates No questions asked, we fulfil our task Tones all turn grey after sunset Slaying a man, taking what you can What is right, what is wrong, who can answer? Sailing the seas, we do just what we please Emperors, pirates; all cancer Hoist the sails! - Wipe them out now - Kill them all! - Let them die - Scum they are! - Foe of mankind - Clear the sea! - Show no ruth- "
Great stuff. I'm really appreciative of this band's change from lots of growling to more clean vocals. The first decent song I heard was "To Holmgard and Beyond". Some great trumpets and such. This song is great, too.
It would be interesting to see Turisas play this song in the presence of Alestorm. Seeing that they're both Folk Metal bands, this could happen someday....
do ya know what their are bits of this song that remind me of sweeney todd haha sounds fricking awesome love turisas hence why im seeing them 2moro in london yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
@fiends666 I hate to differ, but if you put attention to the lyric, it narrates the conflict between pirates and hunters of pirates, usually corsairs or reformed pirates, who ultimately did not belong very different from the pirates who were hunting.
Are they really? I love Alestorm. Icfound thrm through Turisasand I love pirate music more than anything which is why I listen to this song.@fiends666
@IchBinUnbesiegt I love Alestorm, but the composition here is so much more inventive than anything Alestorm has come up with, in my opinion. This is kinda what I wish Alestorm would write haha. Definitely don't hear many folk metal bands with melodies as strange and interesting as the one in that verse. I love it!
6 dislikes by Alestorm! XD

Full sails ahead, oceans painted red
When the soldiers of metal hunt for emos
Our glory task, we fulfil for what they asked
Make-Up all turns grey after sunset
Slaying a wimp, behaving like a pimp
What is right, what is gay, we shall answer!
We're not the sick, just savin' our music
Emos and gangsters, all cancer
