I remember reading an article years ago that at the time this plane was built, it was requested by the Saudi dignitary who ordered it, that it come equipped with Rolls Royce engines solely for the reason that they were made by Rolls Royce. It had nothing to do with performance, he just wanted RR engines. Did the QANTAS order come after this one was built, because at the time, this one was allegedly the only SP with RR power plants.

I believe this 747SP is the only one of its kind to be equipped with Rolls Royce engines for no other reason than that they were made by Rolls Royce.

@jetboy66 ..hmmmm not sure what you mean by that, Qantas' 2 747SPs were RR powered also. But all the rest were P&W powered.
