Hey Duey i'm looking into buying a electric guitar preferably a strat because just like you i love Gilmour and think he is a genious. I've been playing the acoustic guitar for about 6 months now and have been teaching my self how to play with just tabs. Yea good thing you didn't get rid of your POD you would have thrown out a good piece of gear. I would also suggest you go to Gav's website yourguitarplace(dotcom) and search for Pink Floyd patches because there are a lot of good ones there.

That could be a Duncan in the neck it came from my 80's Charvette guitar. The bridge is a Dimarzio DP101 Dual\ Sound

No, the neck pickup I pinched from my Charvel and replaced that with a YJM and the bridge is a Dimarzio DP101 Dual Sound. These are excellent for Gilmour tone. I am wondering if that 80's Charvel pickup is an EMG though.
