Saw this line-up at the Hammersmith Odeon (London) in December '89... and they absolutely blew me away. Being in the third row helped too! A peak experience. The sound here doesn't capture the warmth and clarity on the night, but this post brings back a great memory. Thanks!
I saw Pat Metheny Trio on October of 2007. I was so close to Pat, I could directly hear his acoustic guitars, including his 42-string Pikasso acoustic. It sounded great!
just discovering PM and PMG on youtube. Way cool! check out PM on his Pikassa guitar too. He is THE most talented/versatile musician out today. yeah, I know that's debatable but PM works for me and can't wait for his next CD!
bought my first metheny record yesterday and i love it! just a cheap live album, but the most famous songs are included. my first jazz record ever and it took some time to get used to the sound, usually i'm more into rock music. this is my favourite song so far, but today i ordered the "road to you" live album. i'm curious! just great chill-out music.
oh! I just read your comment and wanted to tell you that you are giving yourself a great present. I have it since 1997 i think, it was my first Metheny cd and i love it.
Saw this live in MTL...The sound was INCREDIBLE (there was also about 100 000 people there) !!! It was broadcast on MUSIQUEPLUS. His music, especially around this "era" always takes me to a special place.
A world lost to us now? The very best period of Pat and his group..evocative tunes. I hope he doesn't lose his tuneful sensibilities - what after the way Up? I hope he gets his bearings. the best instrumental composer in jazz without peer!
My 1st intro to a PMG concert. Memphis September of '89 general admission on the campus of Memphis St. Univ. Only saw him play that coveted Gibson once more during the We Live Here tour. Finally met him in '03 in Paducah, Ky during his trio tour. Talk about a huge fan with nothing to say but "UHHH'S". Made up fo it 2 yrs. later in Knoxville during his trio+one tour. Gave him an unauthorized copy of Steely Dan during their Everything Must Go tour. Wonder if he ever listened to it.
This song and album always take me back 20 years, driving around town in summer, late evening or near midnight, windows down...barely anyone on the road except me and the PMG. What a trip!
so many wonderful compositions on letter from home and still life talking...never knew the names of the songs, id just play the cds one after the other over and over...a love affair w/ each song...but minuano now that ive learnt its name...the most beautiful of all, tho spring aint here is so good too
Actually, this show was recorded and I remember it being rebroadcast on Bravo - a few years later. I don't think the copy ever became commercially available though. But I remembered watching it and thinking WOW!!! The Pedro factor really shined through on First Circle and a few other tunes. He was such a natural fit for me, with the group. He should rejoin.
This is one of his best tracks to drive listening to ..I just love it ..Ty Pat Methany Group cc

A fitting song for this timeof year. KRS-1 (BDB) sampled this song for "Love is gonna get you". Classic song.

Also, you must get PMG "Travels" live double album..that album is vintage P. Metheny with Danny Gottlieb on drums. It's a little edgier. Enjoy!!!
