  • Let the marketplace decide re: art.

This is what I don't get about Bill Maher. For someone obviously intelligent to realize the "free market" does not exist, for him to say that. Pathetic.

  • I can ask the Canadian government for a $10 million Arts grant to make a 7 minute cartoon.

  • I agree with him on sports too. they don't mean as much as people think. and I completely agree with him on baseball. I've always hated that shit. tennis is the only sport worth watching. and he's completely right about industrial agriculture. more people should read wendell berry.

  • "Yeah- pot is obviously NOT a performance-enhancing drug." Gotta love Bill Maher...

  • " If baseball were any slower it would be farming". Lol!

" Trust in the goodness of rich people." Indeed. Keep doing that and all will be fine. . .

  • Bill doesn't support Gov't funding for the arts. Hope he's not a Mozart lover or any of the classical composers who almost entirely subsisted on Royal patronage. Thank God we can have Ludacris on Snoop dog who don't need Gov't assistance. Bill, usually agree with you but pull your head out of your ass on this one.

  • "Pot is NOT a performance-enhancing drug" -- Unless you're a rapper!

And Atheist-God bless Maher for pointing out that the Financial bailout was done while Bush was in office. I'm so tired of hearing conservatives whine about Obama's stimulus package to fix what happened while Bush was in office, and completely forgetting or claiming that those 700 BILLION were Obama's responsibility. Jeesh.. What was the national debt in 2000 again? What was the deficit by 2008 again? Financial conservatives my

  • Iginla made me feel sad this year!

  • wow, I could not disagree more with Bill about the Music schooling.

People wont know they're artists unless they're given a chance.

  • @thejugglenaut91 and he is always complaining about how stupid people in America are, especially in math and the sciences. WELL LEARNING MUSIC DEVELOPS THAT PART OF THE BRAIN. as does learning another language. Not everyone grows up to be Motzart but maybe if they funded music there would be fewer Sarah Palin fans...lol

  • exactly, I'm a physics student and I owe my entire study and passion to music.

  • 2006 the congress went into Dem hands.

Lot of blame to pass around.

  • Spot on about sports in America

  • baseball is lame

  • @RunFasterPussycat dislike

  • was that first caller the guy from LIBERAL VIEWER???? You know, I YOUTUBE, YOU DECIDE????

  • I really wish Larry would have had bill elaborate more on the fact that he doesn't buy food from the supermarket. cuz if he doesn't get it from the supermarket I'd like to know where he does get it.

  • whole foods or he gets fresh food from a farmers market

  • He buys nothing sold in a super market? He doesn't look like a hunter/farmer to me lol. So where do you get your food if its not the super market?

  • He is so spot on about weed

  • @plaguelandscapes It may not be a physically enhancing drug but it's an intellect enhancing drug :)

  • I agree with Bill on the arts - ABOLISH THEM IN THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS!

  • Talk about this stuff to everyone you see not just on youtube to people who already are already researching! spread as much info as you can and do positive things! dont eat or buy crap!

  • maher has some freaky ideas around medicine.

  • wow he sounds like he likes the free market a lil bit lmao, i cant believe it

  • We have so much negative enforced in our minds as "ok." because you're fending for your family...it adds up wen EVERYTHING becomes cut throat...personally i believe our country is gettin fucked (EVERY OTHER CIVILIZED COUNTRY KNOWS IT)...ne1 seen that "cash for gold"...what a time to be trading paper currency for worldwide value...ne1 see where im going with this???

  • Maybe human being are not evolved enough to handle pure democracy. Not saying american should throw away democracy, but.......great cesars ghost do people with too much freedom find ways to be cruel, greedy, or whatever.

  • why, in 2009, nearly 2010, do we as a society seem to be going backwards? We went to the moon in the sixties, we aint been anywhere else since. stop fighting each other, realize that everyone is different and no one is ever going to be the same, and just get on with it.

  • The problem is most sane people just don't speak up. Remember an empty mind, always seems to have a big mouth.

  • @Gavarooney Cause its funny. I mean it has to be a joke. To give bonuses to Exec. who fuck up and steal, an their still giving out bonuses. The health care bill has been soooo watered down its an amendment now not a bill. Rich fucks are going ride us right into the ground. This country was only 5 years old when the rich starting taking land away from hard working americans. In history rich people have been the key to a country, tribe or whatever since the days of Pharohs.

  • yeah i totally agree. but i mean its 2010 nearly, aren't people sick of this shit by now. i know i am. if the rich are going to continue to behave as they have been for the last couple hundred years, why cant we act like they did a couple of centuries ago and revolt. revolution is the only way to take control over whats ours. but then no matter what form of rule we would have would still be corrupt. its a lose lose situation. i think ill just buy an island and retreat from this bullshit

  • whats more dangerous? a guy driving 20 over with a fifth of jack or a guy driving 10 under with a joint? just legalize the shit so we can stop sending people to prison and spending thousands on prisoners who are harmless.

  • Baseball is a game of subtly. I never get bored because I can analyze so many aspects of the game.

  • I have never cared about sports and never will care its stupidity to an absurd degree, instead of getting involved in politics they go watch stupid games

  • @vanityvideo

Sometimes sports can uplift a nation (as a student of history), so I don't hate it at all.

  • Most political junkies also enjoy sports. Also at a city or state level sports heavily effect public funding. Sports team are associated with the cities or regions they represent and attract attention for tourism and travel.

  • I really agree with him about the obsession with sports... I love my teams as much as anyone else but people care WAAAAAAAAAY too much. Especially division-1 male college football fans... GROW UP AND GET A JOB!!

  • I live in the U.S. damn it and I...

hate it. Too many dumbass motherfuckers.

  • too many motherfuckin racist rednecks.

  • if baseball were any slower it would be farming

  • How long can we last as the most powerful country when we have the most debt?

  • the only thing I disagree with Maher here is the Steroid thing, sorry Bill but it is cheating, and it is a big deal. However I agree with everything else especially with Marijuana, what a useless law

  • legalize it!

  • Republicans did drive the economy into the ditch with deregulation but the Democrats were the ones pushing Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

Capitalism may be flawed but considering the US has the dominant economy in the world it's hard to say capitalism is a failure.

  • I don't remember democrats wanting to end capitalism. Why can't conservatives admit that a certain level of regulation is necessary.

  • I never claimed Democrats said capitalism is a failure. But there are people on the left (particularly the far left) who believe so. Michael Moore for one.

  • While I agree marijuana should be legalized, to say it's healthier than swiming is a bit odd.

  • Well, chlorine can kill you. You know how much pot you'd have to smoke to actually kill you?

  • How often do you hear in the news that a "high driver" caused an accident. You've obviously never smoked.

  • So you should avoid getting high in case you drive? When high, people can still make good decisions. It does tend to make people make worse decisions, yes, but not like booze does. A person who doesn't think driving high is a good idea, will still think that way when they are high.

Also, driving high is nowhere near as bad as driving tired, though personally I wouldn't do either if I could avoid it.

  • Yeah, I would be more scared of a drunk driver than a high driver.

  • When I drive high, I don't speed, 35 mph feels like light speed, I follow other cars so I can maintain a normal speed and not have to focus on so much, and I stop for food whenever I hear a commercial.

Once (while high) I followed a dude 16 miles in the opposite direction of where I was going, followed him to his driveway, and almost turned into his driveway before I realized what was going on. And as someone who was high, it took me another hour to figure out where the hell I was.

  • @101LegendKiller your body weight in a very short period of time.

  • 20 min high? Sounds like your smokin somethin bogus

  • Marijuana certainly is performance enhancing. The aftermath of a 20 minute Marijuana high will make you feel very profound. This is from personal experience.

  • no one ever says that! but I totaly agree, when I'm high, I kick ass in raquetball!

  • 20 min high? lol thats shitty.... I smoke weed everyday and it doesn't make me feel "profound" it does make me hungry tho.... heh

  • Flamie12 is right about one thing... it makes you FEEL very profound.

I think a sober onlooker will SEE that you're not though :P

To paraprhase Robin Williams: "marihuana enhances many things, tastes, colours, sensations, but you're certainly not f###ing empowered - unless there's a big hershey bar at the end of the run."

    Best Regards from The Netherlands

  • I think you misspelled her name, ann cunlter. ;P.

  • Ok ?

  • HAHAH FUK BASEBALL ITS HELLA SLOW

  • 1992 study in international journal of epidemiology: chlorination of drinking water linked to increases in colon and rectal cancer.

there are other studies that link chlorination of drinking water to esophageal and bladder cancers, as well as asthma...

  • amel: Yes, many things cause cancer; in SOME people, SOME of the time. Chlorine is a powerful chemical, and can be a carcinogen if used improperly or when it reacts with other compounds in drinking water. Chlorination of water must be (and is) closely monitored.

the World Health Organization has stated that the "Risks to health from DBPs are extremely small in comparison with inadequate disinfection."

So...we weigh the pros and cons and make the best choice. Which is chlorination.

  • John: you're off topic - you wanted your "one credible study that says [chlorination] has harmed anyone" and you got it.

your answer this time: "many things cause cancer; in some people, some of the time" - is far from your original "chlorination is harmless" stance.

being for a certain position shouldn't prevent you from knowing/telling the truth about an issue, regardless of how it reflects on your argument.

  • amelia: OK. I'll plead guilty for not having phrased my original question more clearly. I should have said:

"show me one credible study that proves the chlorinattion of water in the US has resulted in significant harm...to the point where it would warrant removing chlorine from the water supply".

Happy now? The issue is whether or not we should chlorinate the water. I say yes...based on the WHO quote I provided above.

  • now that you've "clarified" your statement, i say, i'm sure those who now have to cart around colostomy bags or are dead sure would rather have boiled/filtred their water, instead.

  • amelia; Thanks for the smug reply. I don't know what your "bag" is, but I suspect it's some sort of luddite/green thing.

I'll restate my position; chlorination, properly managed and monitored, is a defiinite good.

No system is perfect. You apparently want to abandon everything that is less than perfect. I'm sure you're against nuclear power, eating meat, using deodorant, etc. You probably envision some sort of pristine Garden of Eden that can exist if only we "go green".

  • my "bag," john is full disclosure and not being disingenuous.

  • Amelia and John sitting in a tree

    K-I-S-S-I-N-G

    Just kidding guys...

  • He isn't radical left. He is libertarian, and that is true conservatism.

  • I really want an Inquisition against conservative Republicans.

  • I used to hate Michael Phelps but now I love him!

  • FUCK JESUS CHRIST.... HE GOT OFF EASY

  • A day on the cross, a weekend in hell, and all the hallelujahs of the legion angels for eternity! Try seven years in fuckin' Otisville J!

  • Bill Maher is awesome. i love him

  • Same here man.

I would love to get blazed with him.

I also think that Phelps should have stood up for the plant and it's many benefits.

  • What a dumb question. How do you feel about corporate executive bonus packages? What do you expect him to say?

  • Comment removed

  • boycott kellogs legalize weed tax it and boom economic crisis over. steroids ain't dangerous either it's just synthetic testosterone. it just gets alot of bad press. less people die from steroids than falling coconuts fact!

  • "Pro-life is all I care," I don't care how many anyone give birth to. Should all lives represent opportunities, shouldn't any and which one should?

  • What Bill said about art is stupid!

  • larry needs to shut the fuck uppp please.

  • 6 weeks!!! Wow....

  • I like Maher, but really wish he'd stop this demagoguery about water and medicine and food being poison. Swimmers are some of the healthiest human beings around, despite the chlorine. Growth hormone hasn't been linked to anything but bigger animals. Granted, he might be right. We might discover that steroids and antibiotics are terrible for you, but for now, he's taking it on faith, something he's not too big on.

  • no you idiot the literally shot animals with steroids stupid literally not on faith dumb ass. the shit is poison you mother fucker

  • Ha ha ha. What a clown. What a stupid thing to get angry about. By the way, I didn't say they're not giving steroids to animals, I'm saying there's no evidence it affects us by eating their meat. Show me the evidence if that gives you roid rage. Until then, you're taking it on faith.

  • okay you didnt. but bill isnt saying tat the swimmers are unhealthy either he just said there in chlorine which is a bad chemical. how do u know wat he knows

  • Listen to what he says again, right at the beginning. He says that Michael Phelps is unhealthy because he's been "marinating" in chlorine-treated water and that it's bad for him. Then he said that drinking water is also bad for you. I don't know what he knows. I know what he said, and what he said is not based on statistics or medical science. I know you love bill maher; it doesn't mean you must defend every unreasonable thing he says.

  • it is unhealthy tho to be in chlorine i just dont think he meant it as being unhealthy unhealthy overall. ya the water thing kinda caught me off guard, but some water is bad just go to mexico and see if its not. but if you dont know wat he knows how do u knows that its not sourced

  • I'm not criticizing scholarly literature here, I'm criticizing an ignorant thing a comedian said on larry king live. And if you want to debate what he said substantively, you're going to have to do your own research first.

  • what the fuck are you talking about omg your fucking out there lol Jesus fucking Christ

  • maybe u should do some research. yes tap water that contains chlorine is bad for you. and chlorine is a chemical that is bad for u. yer a dumbass.

  • Ha ha. Here's another brilliant one who doesn't read before he writes. I never write anything anywhere without knowing what I'm talking about. Do you know how much chlorine there is in your tap water? In NYC, it's less than 1 mg / L. Pour it into a glass and most of it off gasses before you're finished drinking. But if you choose to drink fresh from a mountain spring instead, fill your boots. You can flush your diharrea down a toilet with chlorinated water.

  • I enjoy Bill Maher's show, but I always hate his rants on the NEA.

  • "Drinking water is bad". that owns. lmao

  • bill maher you're fucking slow

  • he went to cornell university. does that make him slow?

  • Comment removed

  • i actually think he's smart. it's just his part he plays in the brainwashing of americans that i dont like. some of the stuff he says is very true. but he says it from the "looney left" its all brainwash

  • Veganism, I'm guessing is too close to a religion for Bill. I also wonder what he eats. I love animals too, but cattle and poultry are tasty. Some animals are just food. Chicken and turkey is a great source of lean protein, it just makes sense to eat them.

  • god your an idiot

  • Get off your soap box. It's your choice to be a vegan if you want to be, and ignore the fact that humans are omnivorous animals.

  • oookayyyy good for them. wat did i say

  • Not to be a devil's advocate, but can't weed lead to an over consumption of post-bong munchies which could then lead to significant weight gain and, perhaps even, diabetes?

    Just sayin'. ;-)

  • I agree with a lot of the things BIll says but it almost becomes annoying when he talks about anybody who doesn't think like he does is of lower intelligence then him. Like get over yourself Bill. You don't know everything Bill, especially when it comes to 9/11. Your views on that subject is so ridiculous that I honestly think it would serve you better to be a Republican. You'd fit right in with all the other close minded morons.

  • may be there wrong and yes if there dumb by definition they would be of lower intelligence mother fucker

  • I don't think you should be speaking about intelligence when you can't even write a coherent sentence. To lessen the stereotype around the world that most Americans are uneducated, I'd suggest just shutting up. That way you're at least doing your part :)

  • how is it non coherent its very simple if the point people make is wrong bill has every right to tell them there stupid stupid see how simple that is. o and i wasnt dumb ass you were

  • I'm pretty sure this guy is uneducated, but I'm even more certain he's ass-over-tea-kettle in love with Bill Maher.

  • lol omg tats funny

  • watching these parts of the show cut and edited with just bill maher is so much better than watching the actual show!

  • OK - he's a 23 year old who indulged at a college party. Who the hell cares? Are there so many babies in this society that actually get offended by something like this? Or is it lazy parents who feel they have to somehow explain this to a child and don't know how.

  • i doubt Phelps even bong loads on a regular basis. People need to chill the fuck out.

  • If Bill's doesn't shop @ supermarkets, where does he shop for his food?

And the obvious follow-up is what foods does he eat?

  • yeah and wtf does he get his water? he must shop at organic foods stores or something like that.

  • I was thinking that he might filter it, however I do not think that that would remove the trace amounts of chlorine in most water suppies, which are there to keep them relatively germ free.

I seems that his issue with foods is the chemicals applied in their creation. Therefore that leads me to agree with your comment on his shopping @ organic stores. Taking a step further and only shopping for locavore items.

Also is he a vegitarian?? Does anyone know?

  • filter your water is actually one of the same processes a water treatment plant would use, all it is is granular activated carbon that uses adsorption to remove particles, same thing a brita filter does. I think bill is a vegetarian but i've seen paparazzi clips of him eating out dinner a lot. But should bill be doling out health advice if he smokes pot? pot isn't exactly good for you.

  • The smoke may be bad for your lungs, however, a bit 'o' THC in your brownies or pancakes or cookies is always a recipe for a meaningful and enlightening Saturday afternoon/evening.

    Am I right, people?

  • Bill mentions in a Charlie Rose interview about having a holistic doctor and Wiki says he's not a veggie but doesn't eat a lot of meat

  • Oh and if Wikipedia says it then it must be true, seeing as how people who update pages on Wiki always cite all their sources.

  • It's cited. And seriously, anyone who spends their time changing Bill Mahers Wikipedia profile so the public thinks he's not a vegetarian... do I have to finish?

  • an organic super-market..................

  • did larry say "metabolic" steroids?
