Those kids provoked the attack by throwing shit at the Tiger, crossing over the fence, and pissing in the Tigers domain. Why do you think it only attacked them and not the other people still in the zoo? Tiger was out for like an hour. It's a pretty long distance from the Tiger area to the Cafe. Why they stay quite? ...they haven't said a word about the attack. If they get any money it should be a refund from the zoo and enough to pay medical bills, but they TRESPASSED once over the fence.

Sounds like there is the possibility that the man who was killed was taunting the tiger by sitting on the cement wall - his shoe was found inside the enclosure...the tiger could have easily grabbed the mans leg - and as the man is holding onto the wall - the tiger used him as leverage to get out. If my house cat can jump from the floor to a window 5 feet up - I can't doubt a tiger can jump 6 feet either...they also swim, so that moat around the enclosure, doesn't do much.

Question, why did the police have to be called to kill the tiger? Wasn't there some kind of rifle or even a tranquilizer air rifle at the SF Zoo in case something like this arose? San Francisco is liberal in their preparations. This cat should have been destroyed when it attacked the keeper a few months ago.

Tranquilizers take time to kick in, and the police officers at the scene did not have a tranquilizer air rifle with them or enough time to figure out who had one. The tiger was attacking people, and needed to be stopped NOW, not in a few minutes. The officers did the right thing. It is unfortunate that the tiger had to be killed, but there really wasn't any other alternative.

I agree that the cops had to take it out, but didn't the zoo have some kind of emergency plan of action or defense in case the unthinkable happens?.......like it did. The Zoo needs a rifle like a 300 WSM for instances like this. This tiger should have been destryed when it attacjed its keeper months ago.

i disagree, the keeper got too close to the pen. it wasnt the tigers fault. they're not cuddly housepets.. why put an animal down when it isn't necessary? in addition theres hardly any of these animals left. i agree in this situation it was the right thing for the cops to shoot it.

i was thinking of san diego zoo actually. but still we should be able to contain this animal better in an emergency without killing it. i know its easier said than done, but if we're going to have them in the first place its gotta be done. we should have stronger laws to protect them too. trust me it cant be hard to provoke it at a zoo if you try hard enough.
