Well this argument is now dead. I hope Tiger gets his act together (golf-wise, I don't care what he does in his personal life) but Fed is waaaaaaay out in front in everything!!!!
It's Legend vs Oh yeah, that guy who could have been Legend.
Rogers not number one is his sport " ,no shit he was number fucking 2. What a joke Federer is a far better athlete than woods and a better person. On the worlds stage Fed is king plus when does woods play asin. fed plays all around the world and is always a crowd favorite no matter place or who is playing him. and like they say golf is a game tennis is a sport
@trounbyfire that is the dumbest most arrogant comment i have ever heard. Tiger is 6' 1 and weighs 200 pounds. He is in prime shape (not talking about his injuries) and would crush roger federer. Tiger has won 40 times in Europe so don't even talk about golf. Golf is clearly a sport.
tennis is as much, if not more, about the mental state than golf...its a 1 vs 1 sport.
theres alot of mental pressure to deal with...just ask federer when he's 0-40 on his own serve...the way he deals with the enormous amounts of pressure and stays so calm is just amazing...he is incredibly clutch in the tight moments..and that is the hallmark of a true champion..
ok, it is true that golf is harder than tennis...and probably tiger woods has had a greater impact on golf (and its history) than federer on tennis...but if you are asking me who is the greater talent, who is the better performer in their respective sport...then its federer. his consistency in grand slams is FRIGHTENING..the guy has reached 23 consecutive grand slam semi finals to date, 16 of the last 17 grand slam finals...tiger woods has NEVER achieved that sort of consistency..ever.
pfff the most biased shit that i ever saw. ok they admit that but their arguments are plain dumb. tiger is n1, federer is n2? when federer was reigning n1 for more than 4 and a half years being n1 was not a big deal, the majors were what mattered. now when roger has more majors in an obviously infinitely more demanding sport, all of a sudden it doesnt matter cause tiger is n1 and roger isnt. i hate those american sports commentators fags with their biased crap.btw federer is now n1. now what?
what bull shit. golf isnt even athletic. john daly is playing pro tournys in the sport! arnold palmer played 50 consecutive masters, whereas federer will have to retire in his early 30's. the most majors talk cant count because tiger will have like 20 extra years to try than federer. plus golfers only have to play on one surface, grass!
ok, ur completely overlooking the mental side of the game of golf and it seems you have very little idea on what u are talkin about. dont get me wrong, federer is easily my favourite tennis player, but remember he only has to beat seven people to win a major and could have his main rivals knocked out by other ppl for him (eg. nadal at this years US open) whereas tiger has to beat all 150+ people in the field to win a major/tournament.
well its actually comparing them as athletes as opposed to talking about ATHLETICS, and the term athlete encompasses everything from the physical aspects of their sports to the mental parts and also relates to how they have to compete against others in their sport. So you have really over-simplified this argument way too much
yes it is. in tennis at some point u can benefit or even rely on ur opponent makin a mistake to help u, but a golf course doesn't make mistakes. its all up to you and if u make a mistake ur never going to be given a free 'point' (for want of a better term) by the course.
while yes tennis is obviously a lot more physically exhaustive than golf, surely the physical technicalities required to play golf well would ensure a 'rating' a little higher than 1. btw, i dunno if you have actually seen tiger woods but he looks like fair athlete to me.
yes im aware of that, but the fact that u gave golf a '1' would imply you think little of its physical side and that is precisely what i argued against in my previous comment.
Sigh* 2 to 8, happy? That is not my point though. Even if its higher then 1, the physical difference is still greater than the mental difference. Thus, tennis requires more athleticism.
well im not completely convinced that u realise that i already understood that but what i am convinced of is that u really have no idea how difficult it is to put a good swing together. btw, i would argue that the gap between golf and tennis in relation to mental side of things is greater than 2/3
It is very difficult to execute a good shot in tennis, especially at the speed these pro's are playing at. You have a million hours to set up for a shot in golf whereas in tennis you are given a mere second to think about you next move. There shouldnt be a dispute regarding the fact that tennis is a way more challenging sport overall.
it's obvious you haven't ever seen roger playing, you can't compare, woods just stands and hit a ball. there is no physical effort. federer can play for hours a great tennis he is the 1
The fat guy who's talking about Roger isn't the number 1 of his own sport is such an idiot. Who says that Woods can hold his number 1 spot? Federer was the number 1 for 237 consecutive weeks - worldrecord. Woods just doesn't have any opponents, Federer has Nadal, Murray and Djokovic, you have to mention that.
And by the way, tennis is a real sport at least, while golf is so boring!
The only thing you have to do there is to swing your arms, that's silly!
@NiggeliNGTiger over Federer for sure. Tiger was impacted his sport more than any other athlete except arguably Jordan. The reason why Woods didn't have competition is not because no one else existed, there was mickelson, els, goosen, furyk to name a few, it was because he was the most dominant athlete in all of sports. Golf is the hardest sport by far and to dominate it is unbelievable because it is SOO hard to be consistent. Golf requires your whole body to swing -130MPH with arms=impossible
agree with theguy....i live in america but once in a while i travel to my country in armenia which is in europe....and federer is known throughout the ENTIRE country. and i swear to you i couldnt get one person who even knew the name Tiger Woods....these two idiots have absolutely no idea what the hell they are saying
thanks bud, yeah these two idiots hav eno idea what they're talking about and the reasons that guy was saying why tigers bigger was stupid and didnt make sense "hes more photogenic" what an idiot...well guess what, federer now has passed tiger with majors and it looks to me that hes going to break the 18 major record of golf before tiger gets any closer....its just sad how very few give a shit about this guy in america since he could quite possibly be the most dominate athlete of our time.PERIOD
I couldn't agree with you more. It's a shame really, that Americans don't appreciate foreign players, even one as big as Roger, like their own. In terms of dominance, sure Tiger's been dominant, but Roger has been more impressive. A typical year for Tiger consists of 2 majors, Roger (c. 2004-07) is expected to win 3 and make the finals of the fourth lol. That's bizarre expectations for anyone...yet still he does it! I have never seen a more dominant athlete, but I didnt see Jordan or Gretzky...
I think these guys are biased, and they have not spoken about the respective sports or the dominance each men have in their sport. They talk about international fame - I would suggest for them to go to Europe and ask who is more popular. I think the discussion they had was mindless and uninformative.
Agree with ruffrider285. It depends a lot on the popularity of the sport, and come on tennis is waaaaaay more popular if you consider the whole world and not only your own country.
tiger is a bigger "global" icon.....give me a break, this is the biggest crap ive heard in a long time....the stupid idiot said it so convincingly too....by far Federer is much bigger "global" in US Tiger is much bigger but come on, "global" stature, Tiger is a nobody compared to Federer
Well this argument is now dead. I hope Tiger gets his act together (golf-wise, I don't care what he does in his personal life) but Fed is waaaaaaay out in front in everything!!!!

no brainer, obviosly federer is a greater athlete! what kind of athletism is envolved in golf?

Tenis has a huge mental side to it aswell. It's a harder sport to master physically. Golf is not that much harder to master mentally than tenis.

Let me put it this way. On a physical comparison out of 10, tenis is 8 and golf is 1. Mentally, tenis is 6 and golf is 8 or 9.

I didn't mean to be accurate with my "ratings." The point of it was to compare the difference between the mental and physical side of tennis and golf
