OK, so here is this movie in a nutshell, some whacko finds a droid in the middle of a desert. and brings it to this guy named moe,for some reason he brings it to his girlfriend and they have kinky 90's sex. THEN! the robot rebuilds itself and tries to bone the chick with its drill bit robo peener. now if that wasnt creepy enough, then thers all these random acid trip clips and 25 minutes of the movie is filled with random cut scenes that make no sence till the end when they finally kill it. O.o
Being a big gore fan back in the day, I was laughing my ass off when BAAL killed Bobby Donnell from The Practice and then proceeded to chop him up with a chainsaw.
Very cool and underrated Sci-fi horror action, one of my fave cult Sci-fi films since i was 10 when i rented this gem and enjoyed it. Reminds me of Robocop, Blade Runner, Mad max and Akira all rolled into one.
odd question but in the begining of the movie did mark 13 get blown up in a minefield? cause it looks like they are surrounded by mines when he is digging it up.
I would really like to see a prelude to what happened before this movie. I think showing the overcrowding population and the mark 13's being released upon the population and the people combating them would make a great action/thriller, i know it sounds alot like the move Terminator but the mark 13's design is a shitload creepier then the terminators any day of of the week.
I see the punkish features in the movie but im more fasinated with the Robot. The robot is so crude and demonic looking that it looks like something that could of been manufactured. (it looks believable) The other part that is scary is the robots purpose, (population control). I would constantly fill my pants knowing that these things were creeping about. The American flag painted to it, is also very symbolic. The flag which created it, painted on the machine which helped destroy it.
it's not intriguing at all, it's boring, disappointing and woesome, and i can't recall to have truly been entertained for more than a few seconds. low ideas, even lower implementation, the whole stuff is under mediocre. but maybe im overlooking something, i dont know. all in all: 4/10 for it's trying to be creative, another bad thing it's now helping. it remains awkward.
in the last half an hour i just felt stuck between some cheap human-droid close-combat and a pointless shallow love-dramaturge, not to mention that any of them hardly evolve into anything. however, they did a neat work with the visuals, there's some dark post-industrial atmosphere provided, im not denying its cyberpunk-nature, yet the whole picture is far from a great journey. the ending scene, instead of reaching the chatharsis the way it intends to, is purely hilarious.
im just though this...film. the opening in the desert and the radio broadcast look/sound primising, kinda give you the mood to continue watching. the first 30 min is ok, it's actually some sort of an introduction of the main characters and whatever, but afterwards... i dont know, as if the director's forgotten the words 'advancement' and 'progression'. it's just confusing. i really don't mind if a story unfolds slowly, the problem is it won't.
The first time I saw this coming attraction trailer back in early 1991,I first thought it was a teaser trailer for the upcoming,"Terminator 2"("T2:Judgement Day" was finally released in theatres only afew months later during the summer of 1991).
As awesome as this move was the ending was way too long, I kept guessing the end was coming about 6 times, it just kept going, to its credit though becuase if it wasn't for the ending then this movie would've sucked. Great flick.
This movie has probably one of the longest third acts ever filmed. Was it like 40 min or so? I havent seen it in years but i remember it was that long. Probably i'm wrong.
@Luka1180 I'll answer this the best I can, not sure how old you are, and age here is relevant. I'm 33,this is one of those movies from the very awkward early 90's film era. Trash does have it's place in the film universe as long as it's good trash. I personally love this movie, because of how ugly it looks, it's budget was small, not much promo behind it, in the early 90's there was experimentation in film (particularly in the sci-fi genre)and a desire to produce post-2000 apocalyptic movies
@Luka1180 also keep in mind Industrial music was coming into the mainstream and they wanted the movie to have that Industrial feel to it, I guess if your going to make an "end of the world" movie, make it as ugly as possible, the problem with movies in that genre now, as great as they look, there almost too clean and not gritty or grime enough. There was a popular term when I was in high school known as cyber-punk, start with Bladerunner and go from there.
Oh no, this is NOTHING like the Jamie Lee Curtis movie "Virus"... lol Will someone else please tell me that I am not the only person who realized this. lol
great film, amazing dark vibe, creepy and surreal. But I love it for the fact it could have been so much better. Its starts so well and does loose itself. I kind of love it for what it could have been. check it out!
This movie is a must. It can be really cool, it can be really campy (Johnny Mnemonic style camp). Some of the camp crosses the line into just bad. I just thought it was a shame that it started out so well, and then about halfway through became a creature movie. But not like Fred Olen Ray movies, where they're supposed to be bad, and that's what makes them good.
@themanamp Man, when I saw this film in the theater I was so angered by this film and I wasnt the only one. Everyone was angered and one throw his soda at the screen. But I now look back and admit that it is great in a perverse way, but it still pissees me off.

How.... can a movie from 1990 look that bad? I dont get it at all. The Transformers: The Movie looked WAYYY better, and that movie was from 86.
Even the Star Wars sequels (the old ones) looks better and ARE better. But is this movie good in any way? What are your opinion.
