Or probably he is just singing as a metronome - which isn't usually very nice to be heard. Probably he was trying to do one of those very-Corelli high notes and the maestro didn't give him the time to sustain it...? :-P
Would you believe, I used to disdain this aria. The whole opera thereby. For about 10 years of my opera-appreciating life! Unbelievable, I know. Until you realize one simple fact: the only version I had ever heard of this aria was Carrerras, post-cancer.

@LordMgls I'm just an opera fan with no expertise so it sounded fine to me, but I'd love to know where the tempo went wrong. :)
