The best way I increased my confidence is learning Gracie Jiu Jitsu. You can learn through video with only 36 techniques and after that you can defend against anyone who dont know JJ. And you can learn more after that if that's your choice.

@fitzerg Confidence is not just about learning self defense. Especially from a video course. In fact there is NO easy way to learn to defend yourself and this is a total example of what I was talking about with guys wanting a magic answer or take the quick road. You need to actually be in a dojo doing the dam thing not watching a video or reading a book on it. It has to be in you not ON you.

You are right. Thats why I had my brother and dad as my training partners and later on I enrolled on a free Gracie Garage which is lead by a purple belt in GJJ. These 36 moves is actually taught as standard teaching in the US Military and other Law Enforcement agencies. My fear in meeting women was with the possible violent competition that I would get (I am 5'6") and GJJ helped me solve that. If you have a feeling that you can be yourself without getting hurt adds to your overall confididence.
