One thing to keep in mind is that the majority of all bath and shower fuacets do not have shut-offs built into the faucet. So, most of the time you have to turn your main water off in your house before you work on the fuacet. I believe they were a set of moen. Good luck and have a great day.
My place was also built around 1980 and we have the same diverter. My problem is that when we go to turn off the shower or bath and press the knob all the way in, there is always some water still leaking out. Which is progressively getting worse over time. I went to home depot and only found stems, which I dont think will do anything with this type of setup. Please help!
@drjsteinberg - sounds more like the faucet cartridge needs replaced. The diverter controls the flow to the faucet, the faucet controls the flow out - so if you turn off the faucet and its still not quite off, sounds like its the faucet with the issue.
This video really saved me so much money on a plumber. My hot water wasn't flowing through enough. I knew there was not any clogs in the pipe itself. I had rechanged the cartridge 3 times already. I was about to give up until I started researching videos on diverters and then I found this. This is the same exact setup I have in my house. My house was built it 79. Thank You So much for posting it. i was able to reach the set screws for each and that was my problem all along.
