It happens, that's a fact. For simplicity's sake, we can call natural selection a fact too.

@anonincognitus Well that's the problem, a scientific theory isn't about proof, but about explaining one or several facts and how they work in nature, but I agree it could be called something else, like.. I don't know, but it's not about proof.
But it's not too hard to distinguish fact from theory, that things tend to fall down is a fact, thus gravity is a fact, but WHY things to fall down is the THEORY of gravity, thus gravity is both fact and theory, guess it's just hard for some to grip.

@anonincognitus Evolution is a theory, but it is also a law. We know evolution occurs and it's even been observed. The theory is HOW evolution occurs. It isn't up for debate IF evolution occurs. It happens, that's a fact. If someone wants to argue that evolution by natural selection is not the way evolution occurs, then have at it, but if they want to argue that evolution doesn't occur, then they're just denying a proven fact. For simplicity's sake, we can call natural selection a fact too.

I think that you're half right. Codes of behavior most people (including atheists) take for granted almost all come from the bible in western culture. For example, the concept that it's wrong to kill. Society would not function if people could kill each other at will. That was the purpose of the bible, to instruct on how to conduct one's self. Of course, the bible also makes claims that are detrimental to society, or that are just malicious, such as claims about the evil of homosexuality.

I used to be a Christian that simply never questioned my religious beliefs. I used to say stupid things like "if we came from monkeys then why are there still all these other monkeys". However i finally educated myself about evolution, cosmology, biology, and physics and i found answers to all the questions i had. Unfortunately, races aren't equal. Not physically anyways. Life, and reality itself, are racist. It is something people have to deal with. Not every group of people are in the same socio-economic situation as another group. That doesn't mean we should purposely treat people differently because of their ethnicity, but its foolish to pretend there are not differences.
