There was no tornado in that video. This was straight line wind damage. Straight line winds can cause the kind of damage as a tornado but it with straight line winds, it all goes in the same direction as in this video and with a tornado it all goes every direction.
What part of Dallas is this? I remember this day, it was Friday the 13th and this is similar to what happened in North Fort Worth. Except The wind wasn't as bad and we had up to softball size hail. Crazy Day!
if theres a severe thunderstorm, and you dont see anything that has to do with a thunderstorm, GO INTO YOUR BASEMENT BECAUSE AT THE END OF THE STORM, O.O IT COMES
Next time remember When it's hailing that hard in the Summer. A tornadoe is just around the corner. By far the best back yard video i have seen on You Tube. very camera work.
wow wtf that was defiantly a tornado, like look at 2:05 on the video and you will see how the wind in 1 sec. shifts and becomes violently tornadic. good catch and video :)
@IHATEPLAID I was looking out a window one time during a storm and when i saw the top half of a tree do that and land almost a block away that's when I took off for the basement.
Was a tornado confirmed by local meterologists? Or was it strong down drafts which is said to be caused by dry air being sucked up into a thunderstorm and causing rapid evaperaton of moisture which then cools the air. Cool air is denser so it sinks, in some cases at up to 100 miles an hour. VERY cool (and looked dangerous) video though.
Whether tornado or microburst, dude, that was one sick storm video. I hope it wasn't too difficult to get your place fixed back up. What did that one neighbor say back to you when you yelled over to her? It is hard to hear her answer on the video.
@ChaseThatTornado67 100 MPH is some serious wind .. I lived in Oklahoma for years and I know from experience that there is not much difference between winds over 80 MPH and a small Tornado ... If those winds are carrying Hail with them the damage can be worse over a larger area than a small Tornado ... I live in New Mexico now and we virtually never get Tornadic storms but we get winds that will get your undivided attention ... 100+ MPH winds are common in the higher passes and near the slopes.
@ChaseThatTornado67 At one point in the vid the winds could have been above 90 MPH, possibly as high as 100 MPH .. It's hard to determine wind speed even when you are standing in it ... Yard furniture starts moving at around 50-60 MPH and the furniture in the vid was certainly moving with vigor, so if I had to swear in court I would estimate 80-85 MPH max ... But I could easily be off by 10 MPH either way.
I have to agree with many of the posts. That was probably a microburst. It could have also have been a rear flank downdraft. Mind you, these are associated with tornadoes, but the tornado is usually about a mile or so away.
I've lived through an RFD where the wind went from 0 to 100 mph (app 160 kph) in about 2 seconds. Scary stuff.
@toddlusk RFD winds are one of the most interesting phenomonon in nature ... I, like you, have also seen the winds go from nearly dead calm to at least 80 MPH in seconds ... That happens a lot in Oklahoma where most of my personal severe weather experience comes from. ... The highest winds speeds ever officially recorded were just a few miles north of where I was living at the time when the Tornado hit Bridge Creek Ok and S. Oklahoma City ... That was some bad shit.
you should put on a parachute step out in the windy rain with your video camera and wait till it gets really windy face against the wind then pull the string XD
I wanna say straight line winds. You were close to a possible Wall cloud parenting a funnel or tornado. You will also note @ about the :52 mark, the winds and rain suddenly stop as the hail was falling.. A calm before the storm.. that's not a good sign either. But ne ways, impressive to say the least. :) Great vid. Just added 2 weather vids to my page as well. Peace from Macomb County Michigan USA
By the way to the comments below me. Rotation is not always a clear rotation. The only thing thats rotating is warmer air. Just like rain doesnt always fall straight down, winds can vary before becoming organized. Straight line is where high and low pressure meet. It's the birthright of a cyclonic formation
Yep. I study them. Def tornadic updraft. Many people don't think about this, but you can't see wind. The reason we see a funnel from a distance is because water, in gas form, is visible.
I give you the all time civilian balls award for being out for as long as you were. Those types of cells are unpredictable
wow and this can be a tornado or huricane they can be the same way and if it is that close you wouldnt be able to tell a huricane you could see on news and sometimes a tornado you can only sometimes get warning i been through 2 tornados in florida and thats exactly how it was except i wasnt that stupid to be outside when wind got that bad***
