Ok, I'm glad you didn't re-paint it I love to see engines in their original paintwork! Last Sunday I went to the Thursford collection and got to see their rollers that are untouched scince their working day and of coruse the pair of Aveling plouging engines :D But I thought it was a bit insluting that they had the pink panter and a giant mouse driving them and the fact they were shoved up a corner with chairs stacked up against them :/ Consiering they are the ONLY examples left!
Ah our (well my Dads ;) Burrell Single 10 ton roll is going in for major boiler works, we thought it just needed a new tube plate but when we got the old one out we found out that the boiler isn't much good. Also the boiler inspectors not happy with the states in the firebox so that needs inspecting. To top it all off as well the bloke who was making the new tender has just passed on rather suddenly.
On the good notes though our Aveling F type is in a new pin condition now :)
...although at least you've still got the Aveling to play with.
Things got a bit carried away with this one as well. I started out by just replacing all the stays (it had a new f'box whilst with the council) but once they were all out and the tubes were out it became apparent the barrel had seen better days as well.
Rather than weld in patched repairs I took the decision to do the full job, so its had a new barrel/tubeplate/smokebox and a full set of stays.
Yeah :) We haven't steamed it in a long while, as the last time we took it out the scarifer got all bent up getting it on the loader (Dad NOT AMUSED!).
Yeah, we could have got the Burrell's barrel repared but it would cost about the same as getting a new on so it decided it's self really. We think that the inner fire box may be the one it came out of the factory with amazing after looking at it! we can't be 100% but a friend who is a bit of Burrell buff thinks so!
Yeah, the scarifier is a bit of a pain! ...but does look nice.
On the rare occasion it's been on a trailer I have to be careful - there are only certain types of 'loader it will get on! Soft and uneven ground can be a pain as well - the bottom of the scarifier touches down at the most awkward times!!
There have been a few vicious speed humps where I've kept fingers crossed there'll still be enough clearance once the rear wheels have dropped down off it!
We have only taken our F type to 2 events scine we got it back from it's overhall and one was just to get it back from the guy who was doing it, he was taking FARRRR to long so we decided to finish it off our selves :) Some time this week were attempting to fit the new water lifter (should be interesting) and fit the sheet hooks on the front and back of the cannopy. Then the next event we took it o the scarifer got bent so it's stayed at home scine 2008!
Is that original paintwork?

@skateboard4zero
Yes - all original, although it doesn't really show on this film - it just looks mucky and black!
Up close the front forks are obviously lined maroon, and you can see quite a bit of the lining and original green paint elsewhere on it as well.

Don't worry, there are no plans for a total repaint just yet!
It's currently undergoing extensive boiler work, but when it returns again later this year it will still be in ex-council condition!

@IACooper Good! :)

@Blord111
Lol, yeah - it went to Malpas in 2006, missed '07, '08 was cancelled, and it returned again last year (and appears in your video of the event).
It doesn't look much like this at the minute though - just a big pile of bits now!
