haha wow I wasn't expecting that video..such a great song!! Hopefully I'll see them play this tomorrow in Milwaukee. I have absolutely no faith (religion-wise), but I totally dig their spiritual lyrics and biblical allusions. Brother/Sister is, in my opinion, their best sound.
i can swear up and down as a christian that i am concerned about atheists ..but lets be honest. its hard to believe a stranger on a computer screen loves you and cares..or maybe you will scoff but i would be first to give my own sacrifice and idle words if you knew what beauty truly is..love you all
Faith is the highest passion in a human being. Many in every generation may not come that far, but none comes further.
@thecitylightsbloom jesus doesnt love you, god isnt real, you worship a myth. that being said, look at my username for one, mewithoutyou is indeed amazing. every album grows and changes with them.
@seanwearsprd fuck your faith and your god. it's people like you that give me reason to believe christians are self centered judgmental assholes :) oh you dont believe what I do? you must be a terrible person. it's a joke to honestly believe in god.
People shouldn't let religious views get in the way of enjoying good music. This is just an all around good band. Who cares what they believe or who they pray to when they go home.
I'm a pantheist, and I feel even more connection with mewithoutYou's music than I did when I was a Christian. Seeing them for the fourth time next week.
According to Wikipedia, the lyrics explore Judeo-Christian themes. The Weiss brother's are of Jewish descent, but raised in a Sufi Muslim household. Their mother converted from the Episcopal church, and their father converted from Judaism.
Weiss also stated he doesn't view the band as a Christian band.
I don't think they've expressed adhering to a particular religion.
However, I just read an interview where it seems to me that Aaron Weiss IS in fact a Christian. I haven't found a direct statement, but I think he is.
"Guitarist Mike Weiss has been quoted as saying that the themes of the album reflect a time in vocalist Aaron Weiss' life where he is, "...sort of revisiting [religion] and holding himself up to those teachings that there's no one religion that's going to be the only way to God...""
Aaron actually is Islamic, and most of these songs are not that hes religious it was just a point in his life where he was confused about what to believe and what to think.
im Anti-theist and i love mewithoutyou. you can dismiss good quality music like this just because you dont agree with the underlying message. these guys are incredible musicians and thats all that matters.
We are all in GODS favor.. As I ride through the city on my fixed gear I play this song at max volume!!! I think about the beauty GOD has created and it makes me raise my hands in all his glory!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't imagine mewithoutyou....

dude come one thats just insensitive if you really are a christian you should love them and want them to join you in heaven and not condemn them. Thats not what the bible says at all
I don't have the slightest clue as to this debate of the historical Jesus has to do with the song, but yes, there were historians that refer to a man named Jesus. Feel free, work on your scholarship, check out Josephus.
Josphus has also have been proved as a forgery. All other historians only refer to the word "christ"(only a handful of times mind you) which at that time only meant the "cross".
What's your citation? I do not know who you reference but if you are referring to the historian Josephus, then you make me smile. Generally, very few scholars (including secular), doubt the existence of the historical Jesus (the debate as to "who" that person was is the key). Research is not something that takes two minutes, but a lifetime. Then again, there are those whose scholarship leaves a blank reply when one mentions Bede or believes Jupiter is made up of pink marshmallows.
...and in the end with respect to the context of the band and this video, who cares? This conversation might as well degenerate down to talk about Brett Favre. "Wait, are they wearing Adidas? Adidas sucks... they should wear Chuck Taylor's."
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Nowhere in history from hundreds of historians that lived during the time Jesus supposedly existed, is jesus EVER documented a single time. He only exists in the Bible...and the mind. It's pretty simple to figure out, just spend a few minutes researching.
Haha. that doesn't mean anything to me, brother. Jesus didn't have much impact on history at all. The things that he did during his life on earth mainly affected those directly around him. Historians won't pick up on a guy doing miracles and healing people and then was executed. Did He save me even today? you better believe it. but historians then could have understandably not heard of him. how many even talk about Nazareth to begin with?
Hey bro. Even if you take a quick glance at wikipedia, it'll tell you that "A great majority of biblical scholars and historians accept the historical existence of Jesus."
If you want to discredit the existence of Christ you will also need to discredit the existence of other historical figures such as Alexander, etc
And you are quite right when you say that even if we could prove that he existed that would not prove the existence of God. The Gospels mention a great deal of people who never had faith in him.
Jesus called himself God. If you do that you are crazy, not a good teacher. So you either believe him or think he is a crazed man, there is no middle ground
Jesus is not simply an object of the mind, if thats the term you want to use to define characters such as santa. Santa never existed in history (as we think of santa in pop culture). Jesus did. He died on a cross and rose from the dead, was and is worshiped (even pagan historians attest to this - cf letter to trajan) so to put him on the same level as santa and the easter bunny is historically, philosophically, and theologically inaccurate.
Knowing Aaron...okay, well, I don't know him, but I know about him...he probably either made it himself, or bought it from some little old lady selling necklaces on the street! :)
Mystery. Stop being a dick. Somebody asks you why you are an atheist you give them an answer, instead of pompously responding with rhetorical dribble.
Personally, I am an atheist because after following the Chrisitan faith for 15 years, I realized that if I believe in one object of the mind(Jesus) I must believe in all of them. I must believe in santa. I must believe in the tooth fairy.
All of us are atheist about most of the gods humanity has ever created, some of us just go one god further
I wanted to make sure of his/her intentions before possibly wasting time explaining my positioning only to have my explanation be met with pleas of knowing Christ and letting him in.
Numerous Christian expositions aimed to save my eternal soul has left me weary of inquisitive and prying Christian folk.
Also, I do not admire being the recipient of anecdotal and fervent religious diatribes. I assume you are the same.
Also, I did peacefully discuss my views with senorjack through messages.
Unless what they're trying to imitate is synchronized swimming, which is actually really really hard to do (though it looks easy enough from the outside). All of the "evidcece" for Jesus can easily being refuted with looking further into the merit of your sources. look at both sides.
And even if Jesus existed. Even if we were 100% sure he was here. Even if there was no doubt in anyone's mind about his existence it prooves nothing.
Jesus was just a man. Like Muhammad. And Buddha. And Gandhi. He was just a philosopher. He was just a magic man.
His existence does not prove God's existence and it does not prove an afterlife.

there not 40-somethings. I'm pretty sure there late 20's. And most of them are pretty scrawny.

I dont think the video was meant to be "beautiful". I felt it represented the direction the band has taken in a humorous way;
it starts with their intense training (their early albums ) and then they end up doing some strange anti-macho water-aerobics thing.

mewithoutYou is the only christain band i will listen to. unless you count brand new as christian. best lyrics ever. & i think without aaron's voice they would be just any other band with good lyrics. his voice= mewithoutYou.

there are some other good christian bands... Brand New is definitely not a christian band, but they are unbelievable
