Oh I missed this, you two are looking wonderful! I can't get over what a big, powerful walk he has! And his canter looks like it's getting so balanced- it must be a dream to sit! I'm jealous!
Thank you so much!!! And yes, I do need to get some new vids up! I've been so bad lately! I'm taking the camera out to the barn with me today! No more excuses! :)
No wonder it took so long to put up. I just stick whatever I got in my camrera right on up. Nice video. You guys are doing some great things! I don't know if that is tranvers or renvers but it is cool!! I will have to show my husband too since he got to see you at the show!
Thank you! We were working on a lot of leg yielding in walk, trot and canter both along the wall and across the diagonal. We had some halt/ rein back work somewhere too, but somehow forgot to put that on here. oops! :)
what a wonderful lesson!!!! For a draft(cross?) hes very up hill and not heavy in your hands like some that I have ridden. hes a good boy :) he looks like a comfortable ride!
Thank you!!! He's half Clyde, half Dutch WB... and very comfortable! We're working on him becoming lighter in my hands (he will brace in his neck now and then) and accepting more weight on his hind end. It's a challenge for both of us! :) But, we're getting there! Thanks again for your nice comments.
Well, I can tell you what works for us... we do a LOT of transions (walk/trot/walk, trot/canter/trot) LOTS of them! We also constantly change directions, so he has to focus on me and what I will ask him to do next. Another thing that took me a long time to coordinate was when he would get heavy in my hand, I didn't want to create resistance in my hand and pull back on his mouth (some people pull back, thinking they're telling them "no" but they're really breaking the energy flow)...
Instead, I keep my hands light and elastic and really push him forward, keeping the energy and "drive" him out of that "stuck" moment. It takes time and consistent work, but it will come... even with the bigger horses (drafts, drafs x's, etc...)

Do you have any tips on how to get a horse (in this case a draft x) how to become lighter in my hands?

Hi!
Well, I can tell you what works for us... we do a LOT of transions (walk/trot/walk, trot/canter/trot) LOTS of them! We also constantly change directions, so he has to focus on me and what I will ask him to do next. Good luck! I hope that helped a little! :)
