This is my gransons account. Im a 62 yr old mechanic and i have been working on cars in canada ever since i was 23. I can tell you by my personal experince and my working experince that hyundais are waste of money. They have very cheap parts and use stuff close to superglue just to hold their parts togather. My last car was a 2009 hyundai elantra and im a old man who puts the peddle to the medal. My motor blew at only 190,000 miles. Driving 85 mph daily will kill a hyundai quick, unlike mazda.

If you're into modding I'd say get the hyundai. The mazdas engine will make more power than the genesis with mods but there is NOTHING you can do about it being front wheel drive. a hyundai with coilovers, sways, and struts will be far superior than any modded mazda in the twisties. just my opinion

@KoukiMS6 Well thats a great thing, I had a 1989 Mazda MX-6 LX that had the 5 speed manual trans and that car gave me hell, it ate 2 motors 3 transmissions I dont know how many clutches and radiators and altinators were like candy to that car, I took really good care of it didnt race to offten and it just kept braking down, when I had the first motor replaced they put a Ford probe motor in it, it was the same exact one that I had before :( I was bummed that it was Ford made I hate Ford!

@ilovecars510 How is this comparison biased? If anything it's biased against the Speed3 by putting it against the 3.8 which is 4.5k more expensive. a "fair" test would be against a Genesis 2.0T, and the MS3 would wipe the floor with it.
In fairness, I think the Genesis got a raw deal with this test -- most other sources show the two cars being very close on all performance perameters.
That said, to me, it boils down to whether you want "practical" or "pretty" -if you consider the Hyundai pretty - i don't, really.
As for practical, the MS3 will hold me, wife, son, weekend's luggage, and 2 mountain bikes INSIDE the car with one rear seat folded down. Mine was the second ever sold in my city, and now has 153,000 miles.

@loh1110 The Mazda3 will out-handle most of the cars in its price range. And it's pretty fast to boot. For the price, the MS3 is one of the best cars to get in terms of practicality as well as performance.
My Tiburon is my first car, love it to death! People say Hyundai was shitty, I think they make great cars now, you have to start out small then work your way up to competing with the big dogs and I think Hyundai has accomplished that . Check out my exhaust sound video. Sounds good to me for an old 05 Hyundai.

@mitsufq360 Speed 3 is definitely badass, but I've got the Genesis 3.8 Track - turn in & handling is as sharp, if not better, but the feeling definitely is a little numb compared to the MS3, I 've heard putting some Pirelli P-Zeros on it will help. Considering the MS3 has more torque (20+), this is much closer than I thought it would be.
Mazda Speed3's true competitor is the VW GTI, albeit the GTI has about 60 less hp, but 7 miles per gallon highway. But on the track the Speed3 tends to school the GTI.
The Genesis Coupe to me more compares to the pony cars -- Ford Mustang, Chevy Camaro, and Dodge Challenger. And some driving enthusists prefer the Genesis Coupe over the other three.

Because the Mazda with that ancient name was an icon. At the time there was nothing like it. Nobody had a two door hatch AWD turbo small car. Today everybody has a front drive turbo one way or another. So the Mazda with the front drive turbo just gets lost in the sea of all the front drive turbo cars. Now AWD 4dr there is only Audi, Subaru and Mitsubishi that are worth mentioning.

Ms3 I drove an 08, but regardless, came stock with the Turbo cold air intake short throw shifter and pretty much anything you could really wanna do to a car it was already there. @KoukiMS6 Well thats a great thing, I had a 1989 Mazda MX-6 LX that had the 5 speed manual trans and that car gave me hell, it ate 2 motors 3 transmissions I dont know how many clutches and radiators and altinators were like candy to that car, I took really good care of it didnt race to offten and it just kept braking down, when I had the first motor replaced they put a Ford probe motor in it, it was the same exact one that I had before :( I was bummed that it was Ford made I hate Ford!

In fairness, I think the Genesis got a raw deal with this test -- most other sources show the two cars being very close on all performance perameters.
That said, to me, it boils down to whether you want "practical" or "pretty" -if you consider the Hyundai pretty - i don't, really.
As for practical, the MS3 will hold me, wife, son, weekend's luggage, and 2 mountain bikes INSIDE the car with one rear seat folded down. Mine was the second ever sold in my city, and now has 153,000 miles.

People say Hyundai was shitty, I think they make great cars now, you have to start out small then work your way up to competing with the big dogs and I think Hyundai has accomplished that . Mazda Speed3's true competitor is the VW GTI, albeit the GTI has about 60 less hp, but 7 miles per gallon highway. But on the track the Speed3 tends to school the GTI.
The Genesis Coupe to me more compares to the pony cars -- Ford Mustang, Chevy Camaro, and Dodge Challenger. And some driving enthusists prefer the Genesis Coupe over the other three.
